I've always wanted to build my own forum software. I've considered doing it as a way to teach myself a programming language. If you could build a forum software, what would you use?

Do you have a custom forum theme? Would you ever design and create your own custom forum theme? Or would you rather pay a designer to do it for you?

I have seen this discussed many times and most people have varying opinions. I myself like Wordpress. I have dabbled with Drupal and found it a bit confusing. Maybe if I gave it more time I would have liked it. Anyway what's your thoughts.

These are some tips for coding an addon for your favorite forum software: Understand the Forum Software: Familiarize yourself with the specific forum software you're targeting (e.g., phpBB, vBulletin, Discourse). Read the documentation to understand its architecture and plugin system. Set Up a Development Environment: Create a local development environment to test your addon without affecting a live forum. Use tools like XAMPP or Docker for PHP-based forums. Follow Best Practices: Adhere to coding standards and best practices for the language used (PHP, JavaScript, etc.). When I used to write code I used emacs on Unix and notepad++ on Windows. The only time I used an IDE was when I started using Visual Studio in the late 90's when my company started to transition the bespoke software to Windows from Unix. All my UBB and vbulletin hacks where done with notepad++. I also no longer use Windows as my everyday OS, switched to OSX full time, so other then firing up a VM to install notepad++ what do you recommend to use for development?

The styles have FontAwesome icons in various places. Most of them can be changed in extra.less. In fact all can be changed with the exception of the icons used for widgets. Those were added directly to the template. In the future those will also be in extra.less or I may create an addon to add them.

I have another style in dev stages. You can watch the progress of it by switching to it here. Once it is done I will release at xenForo and here.

The last thing I coded was a static archive plugin for vBulletin. It took old threads and created static HTML pages and purged the data from the database. I never finished it. I had panned to port it to xenForo and finish it, but, with the power of web servers and efficiency of the script compilers there isn't a need for this sort of thing. So now I am looking for ideas on what addon I should create. What would you like to see that hasn't been done as far as xenForo addons go?

I need to backup/copy the mapped Z:\fileshares on 2K3 server to D:\bk on 2K8 server folder that has 3 folders each containing an Access database. This folder is located on a Windows Server 2003 and the z is mounted on a Windows Server 2008. I want to create a Scheduled Task on the 08 server that copies this folder nightly into new directory named with the date "YearDayMonth". I've looked into FastCopy and RichCopy but I don't see the ability to create this directory. Any example of hot to create this batch would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Recently just got a job working with windows server 2008 r2 and i was wondering if i could get the following questions awnsered for me! 1.) IS VBScript and JScript worth learning if i know C/C++? if so why? it seems like VBScript and JScript are dumbed down simple versions of higher level popular programming languages. 2.) What was the original purpose of scripting languages vs. compiled languages? 3.) For automation tasks would compiled c/c++ programs work just as fine?
