After the holidays are behind us I am going to put my attention to getting things done here I've been pushing off. Mainly because I was combining my tech sites. That's done so it's time for Forum Squared to get the things done I should have already done. List of planned items: Upgrade to Invision 5 beta. Currently at beta 9.1 Add the link directory. I removed it after I had a database crash. Revamp the downloads section and add more downloads. Work on the resources section. Get some articles off the drawing board and onto the site. Move my personal blog to here. This is not a priority so it might be a while. That's for starters. …

I moved this site along with most of the other sites to a new VM. The new VM is running Ubuntu 24.04. I've had Windows Server for over 20 years so this is a big change for me. While I originally had my sites on Redhat many years ago moving back is very different. It is slowly coming back to me. Installing the necessary software at the command line was different for sure. There was some trial and error. I did get everything working fairly fast. Things don't seem much different except for the paths. In any case we are now on Linux. If you experience any bugs please let me know. I am still configuring things and fixing permission issues as they come up.

I moved the site off the dev server and onto the main server. Things should run a little smoother. If you notice any issues let me know.

I am in the final stages to import Forum² into here. I will get the data imported starting tomorrow and should be done by tomorrow night. Site might be a little glitchy during the time. I have removed the link directory in preparation for the Invision 5 upgrade. Once I get the site upgraded I will install a directory. Also the downloads are being removed. I am building a new downloads system with pages and will use that. Thanks for bearing with me. Things should be better than ever when everything is done.

I am in the process of importing Forum² data. In the process I have stripped the site down and removed all customizations. This was done so that after the import I will upgrade to Invision 5. Pardon the dust. I hope to have everything done soon.

I will be importing Forum² into here in the near future. I have consolidated my tech sites and now it time to bring together my admin sites. This will also bring over the skins and other resources I have at Forum². Once the import is done and the dust has settled I will upgrade the site to IPB 5. Stay tuned for more info to come.

I upgraded the site to the newest version of IPB version 4.7.19. Upgrade went very smooth. First upgrade I have done in a while. Took about 5 minutes once I entered my details in the upgrader. Way faster than xenforo. The upgrader in xenforo also left a lot to be desired as far as speed. Even the command line version was slow. In any case that's in the rear view and not to be dwelled upon.

I am in the process of converting http://bash.zone to IPB. I have setup a test site running v5 beta2. If you want play around with it feel free. The data that I import will be wiped out when I do the final conversion when 5.0 is done. If you would like admin access let me know. I'll set up a test admin account and pm you details if you like. I want to apologize for the downtime. I was in Tennessee looking at property. The power was not fully restored when I left. I though the back up power would hold things together in between. It didn't. Site went offline on Tuesday as I was doing an upgrade. I wasn't able to access the server until this morning when I got home. Power was still off. It came back at about 1630ET. It still up and down. Backup generator is keeping up this time. Thanks for understanding

As you can see things have changed in the last few hours. I installed Invision Community on a test site. I wanted to run the importers again, I did it on the test site with a million post forums, to see if the process could be sped up. I decided to use the Forum² data as the test. Everything went smooth. I then wanted to try my hand with the styles. It turned out to be easier than xenForo using the visual editor. Once I had everything set up I checked in here to see we had no new posts since I did the import. I decided to go ahead and make the switch. With Invision Community we get new toys. I'm going to highlight a few. New forum format - You can change to the old linear format that lists all the forums. CMS New Link Directory Blog There is also a way you can change the colors of the site. Browse around, breal things and let me know what you think.

I have created 2 new user groups. They are: VIP Visiting Admin The visiting admin group is for admins from other sites that are active participants here. The VIP group is for members that actively participate in the discussions, create new topics and contribute articles. Members promoted to this group will get extra privileges and get a shiny badge to denote that they are indeed VIP's. If you have any questions I'll answer them.

I have consolidated the individual forum software forums in the new Forum Software Discussions forum. Instead of having a forum for each specific forum software we will use thread prefixes. If you want to suggest any new prefixes that I might have missed let me know.

I am in the path of hurricane Milton. Directly in it in fact. This, according to my neighbors who lived here all their lives, said it is a once a century storm for the ages. The Tampa area hasn't been hit directly in over 100 years. There still is a slight chance it goes to the south. Saying that since I host my sites on servers on my home network there might be some downtime. The last hurricane which went up the Gulf knocked power out for almost a week. I am unsure what a direct hit will do. In any case my wife and I are prepping for the storm and once we have everything locked down and secure we are heading north to our other home. I do have backup power generator…

I want to apologize for the downtime. The servers are located in Tampa. Hurricane Milton hit the area hard. Power was off then on then off again. Last time for almost 24 hours. The site is up at this time. I'm hoping the worst is over. Thanks for hanging in there.
