What do you all think about MyBB? I've actually been messing with it. I made an extremely niche forum for it, so it will have slow growth. https://www.outdoorwrite.com/ I used to use it a long time ago. I had to install an addon to make it "somewhat" responsive. MyBB to me have a GREAT look and feel but it's behind the times as far as features go and has been for quite some time.

I want to apologize for the downtime. The servers are located in Tampa. Hurricane Milton hit the area hard. Power was off then on then off again. Last time for almost 24 hours. The site is up at this time. I'm hoping the worst is over. Thanks for hanging in there.

These are some tips for coding an addon for your favorite forum software: Understand the Forum Software: Familiarize yourself with the specific forum software you're targeting (e.g., phpBB, vBulletin, Discourse). Read the documentation to understand its architecture and plugin system. Set Up a Development Environment: Create a local development environment to test your addon without affecting a live forum. Use tools like XAMPP or Docker for PHP-based forums. Follow Best Practices: Adhere to coding standards and best practices for the language used (PHP, JavaScript, etc.). What's everyone think about SMF? Simple Machines Forum has been around for a long time. Recently, within the past few years at least, they released an update that made their forum responsive. That's more than what MyBB has done. Aside from the looks (to me SMF looks old), it's fairly modern.

Have you ever wanted to create your own forum software? If I had the know-how, I'd love to create software. It would most likely be free software because I don't want to hassle making it into a business. How about everyone else?

Yea I know it just got back. Can't be helped. I will be updating the xenforo from 1.5.14 to 2.3.3. Backups will be made first. When I start the backup I'll close the site. If everything goes well It should only be done a couple hours. See you all on the other side.

A great tip for your newer forum admins. Deal with forum drama quickly and privately if you can! Forum drama is the best way to make a community toxic. Once your community becomes toxic, it's hard to clean it up and make it non-toxic. Drama can hurt feelings and create enemies. Try to resolve it quickly and shut it down from the public as soon as you can.
