Hello, let me try to describe the problem (this is my first question on this forum). Operating system is Windows Server 2008. There is a folder, on domain controller drive, named: FOLDER_1, and file, in this folder, named: FILE_1. There is also OU, named: OU_1. Members of this OU should have been granted access the folder: FOLDER_1 and file: FILE_1, as follows: - OU_1 should granted permissions on FOLDER_1: 'MODIFY'. - One member from OU_1, named: MEMBER_1 (MEMBER_1 has not been granted membership of any Admin group), should granted the 'Modify' permissions on a file: FILE_1 - All other members of OU_1, should granted only 'Read' and 'Read & Execute' permi…

Just deployed a new server on my home network for storage, DHCP, DNS running Server 2008 Std. Been very disappointed with the transfer speeds I'm getting copying files to and from the server. Over wireless (g) I'm lucky if I get 1 Mbps. Wired with gb controllers and gb switch I get about 18 Mbps. Drive to drive copies on the server itself fly (around 300 Mbps). If on the server console itself I browse to "\\localhost\Share" I still get a slow speed (around 28 Mbps). This led me to believe it's a problem with the server configuration, TCP/IP or something. Any advice or ways to better troubleshoot to narrow it down?

Hi guys, I came across this site during random searching for answers, and was wondering if some of you guys could offer some assistance. I come from a helpdesk background and never really played with servers at all except for very basic administration. I have this project to set up a new Domain Controller, and install an SMTP server on there. I have managed to get the server installed, installed ADDS, DNS server, and an SMTP server through IIS 6, which is up and running fine. I can also telnet to the server though port 25. my problem lies here, It is required of me to be able to send a test email, I think via Telnet from a specific address, not related to the domai…

Hi, I have 2 servers, both are domain controllers and Active Directory Domain controllers. I have transferred all the FSMO roles to the "new" server and to my knowledge the "old" server now does very little. However, when switching the "old" server off all the clients become incredibly slow pretty much unusable. The "new" server is the DNS, DHCP and GC server as well as the operations master for everything, however the "old" server still seems to have some link with the Active Directory. What can I do to break this dependancy? Cheers.

Hi everyone. Thanks for making this forum! I am a student who is trying out webserving for personal use, but hope to grow into doing as a small business eventually. I have had a few sties up for a short time, using WAMP and LAMP, mostly in development. Now I was given a much bigger server (was built to be a server, not a desktop PC) and would really love to try my hand at using Windows Server 2008 Standard, which I'm able to have for a year as a student. I've started reading 'Windows 2008 Server For Dummies' lol and a lot of it goes right by me. I think because, when I installed the lamp and wamp, I did so by asking a lot of questions in forums, and following step by step…

I've just installed Windows Server 2008 Standard. I have puchases domains, and a static IP as well. Also I am reading Windows Server 2008 For Dummies...and I am still stumped lol. Is there a tutorial out there that basically takes you from installation, to hosting sites? I would like to use the server to host about 4 sites, when I am done. I guess my questions are mainly about which Ip address I use (for the router) and how I find that info...Also, how to do the port 80, what to enter in the DNS info, AND, how to set up the FTP (I ALWAYS) had trouble with that. At some point I would like to be able to access my server from other places (it is in my basement right now), li…

Hi, I've recently installed a vanilla version of Server 2008 to take over from our old SBS 2003 server which is close to death. Everything seems to have migrated well and the new 2008 box is running as a DNS server and a DHCP whilst clients are able to log on and off and access the internet as usual, IP's are also being issued successfully. There is one problem, browsing the internet is very slow going, and I think it's DNS related. When typing in the URL to ANY website, no matter the site, the browser (multiple browsers on multiple platforms) hang for around 5-6 seconds before loading the page instantly. It's very odd as it's not like it's making any progress then …
