I am currently enrolled in an introductory course on Server 2008 and I have a few questions that are not directly answered in my textbook. If someone could help me out I would be greatly appreciative. 1. Why does a policy set in the Computer Configuration node of a GPO linked to the domain object affects all computers in the domain, including all computers in the Domain Controllers OU and the Computers folder. 2.When might nesting OUs be appropriate? Discuss the advantages. Thanks in advance, Drew

ok im trying to host a game server (counter strike) from my server, and currently i have 3 devices, Network connection 1 which is my servers (PC) ip address with DNS and everything, my loopback connection at 127.0.0.1 and the other one which i dont know what it does "Internal". My problem is when i launch the server for cs, it is running on the "Internal" device giving it the ip of 192.168.0.210. ive tried port forwarding the port 27015 to 192.168.0.210, but this doesnt work. I have had it running once on the local connection 1 192.168.0.2 and dont know how i did it, and forwarded 27015 to 192.168.0.2 and that worked fine, i was able to see the game server in the s…

Hi, I have a nVidia GeForce 6600 video card in my computer. I have read the Vista drivers were compatible with Server 2008, so I installed them, I even tried it twice. However, my dxdiag says there was no hardware accelleration support neither for Direct3D nor DirectDraw. What am I doing wrong?

hi, i saw there was already a post on this but had some questions of my own. Ive just enabled NAT and am learning how to configure it. Ive setup a DMZ on my router to my server, all works fine and found that windows firewall was controlling my port forwarding rules... my question is am i able to disable windows firewall from controlling port forwarding and use my NAT device to configure it. I found that if i click on IPV4, NAT, Local Area connection and then in the tab "Services and Ports" it has some options for port forwarding? is this a possbility.. also i found in windows firewall there were heaps of ports open, or listed threre anyway, wouldnt this make using …

I recently installed windows server R2 2008 on one of my computers. I would like my other computer to join onto the new server, without losing my current information. Is there a way to do this? Current setup: Home Workgroup: with 5 computers. Comp 1, Comp 2, etc. New setup (domain) Home.Server: Wanting to move the computers from my workgroup on to here. When I add a user with Active directory, i obviously get a new user with empty pictures, docs, etc. There must be a way to take current users and information and transfer them into the new domain, right?

Hi, this is probably a noobish question but here goes anyways: I have a secondary partition for my data on my server containing some shared folders and some folders with user permissions set. I need to backup all of the drive data keeping these shares/permissions intact so I can upgrade my RAID array from 5 to 10 for certain reasons. Would it be possible to use robocopy to backup all files to an external hard disk, then use my RAID config to create the new array, and then use robocopy to transfer all the files back to the new logical drive WITHOUT losing the shares and permissions? If not, it has been suggested that I get a copy of Acronis and try that. Any feedb…

I am the administrator for the whole system (network) and I have done something by accident (in active directory) which is preventing one of my computers on the network (webdev computer) from accessing it's own C drive (access denied). Furthermore, when I am logged into the Windows server 2008 as "Administrator", I look under "Computer" and I see the "C on WEBDEV" drive, but even when I click on it in there, it denies me access. I have access to everything else except for that drive. P.S. When I am logged in as a "user" or as "administrator" on the WebDev computer and look at the C drive, there is an icon with 2 people in it (I am assuming this is an icon for permissi…
