xenForo released a new HYS for xenForo v 2.4. The core of it is highlighting chunked uploads. What is chunked uploads you ask? It is an upload system that will split large file uploads into multiple parts which makes it possible to upload files larger than what the server would normally allow. Is it useful? Yes and no. If you allow users to upload large files and had to set your php.ini upload limit high to allow it then yes it's useful. If you don't it's of no use at all. To me this is something that is available in other software for awhile now. Once again the xenForo team underwhelmed. They rest on their laurels and do nothing to innovate. If anyon…

It's been a very eventful week here at Invision Community, with the launch of Invision Community 5 and I wanted to take a minute to give an update on what has happened and what we've learned this week. Fixes and PatchesDespite being a brand-new platform, Invision Community 5 has had a very low number of critical issues, primarily thanks to months of careful testing and preparation before this release. We have made two patches this week that fix the following issues: An issue where some Cloud sites would block .svg and webp images when uploaded. An issue where updating the approval queue during the v4 to v5 upgrade could fail. An issue where the Policy Page would show an e…

The Dark/Light Mode Toggle theme component, which adds a toggle to allow users to easily switch between light and dark modes, has been merged into Discourse core and it can be enabled via the interface color selector site setting. In addition to various bug fixes and improvements, the core version differs slightly from the original theme component in that it has a third “Auto” option which makes the site’s color mode match the system preference of the user’s device. The color selector can be configured via the interface color selector site setting to appear either in the site header next to the search icon, or in the sidebar footer. Here’s a screenshot when it’s in the…

Discourse 3.3.4 Stable Release Discourse strongly recommends that all sites follow the default tests-passed branch of Discourse. The “stable” branch is more focused on lack of change than lack of bugs - all releases, including those on tests-passed and beta are production ready. Security Updates This release includes fixes for these security issues reported by our community and HackerOne. XSS via topic titles when CSP disabled (CVE-2024-53266) Partial DoS via inline oneboxes (CVE-2024-53851) Potential bypass of chat permissions (CVE-2024-53994) Users can see other user’s tagged PMs (CVE-2024-56197) HTMLi(XSS without CSP) via Onebox URLs (CVE-2024-56328) Stored DOM-base…

We're pleased to say that Invision Community 5.0.0 is now available to all customers. It's been a long journey, but we are now ready to support v5 as our primary release and offer our thanks to all of those who been involved in our beta testing program. We also have some new documentation to finish, and some website changes to make. If you're unsure what new features v5 brings, you can check out our "What's new in v5" page. Can I still use v4?Absolutely! And we would encourage you to plan your upgrade carefully. Version 5 is not a normal u…

We’re excited to share that you can now save multiple drafts, making it easier and more efficient to write in Discourse! Sometimes, you need to take a break or switch projects when writing a new topic or composing a reply. Previously, you couldn’t start a new topic draft until you posted your old draft — but you can now save multiple drafts without issue. This makes it possible for you to work on more than one writing project at the same time, without tricky workarounds like writing in a PM or copying and pasting your work into another tool. All your writing can happen in Discourse, at the pace that works best for you. Saving drafts Saving a draft still works the same …

WARNING! If your database is very large, you will need a lot of extra disk space (2x database size) and should be very careful with this upgrade! We’ve just landed changes to upgrade our Docker image to PostgreSQL 15. Any site admins rebuilding Discourse from the command line will be upgraded to PostgreSQL 15 from the previous PostgreSQL 13. Note that if you held back from upgrading when the PostgreSQL 13 update happened back in 2020, you can skip that upgrade and go straight to PostgreSQL 15. If you had held back the upgrade previously, change the PostgreSQL template in app.yml from templates/postgres.12.template.yml to templates/postgres.template.yml. As with any up…

To improve the clarity of how they are used, we’ve renamed “Staff Notices” to “Official Notices”. This change acknowledges that both staff members and TL4 users can create these useful notices. Additionally, notices now display the author’s name and link to their profile, providing more transparency about who posted them. This authorship information is only visible to staff: This update makes it clearer who can create notices while maintaining their official nature and improving attribution. The update was committed and merged in this pull request: github.com/discourse/discourse FEATURE: Add attrib…

I go back and forth on this. On a couple of my sites I have chat enabled. The chat works well on those sites and compliments the forum well. The sites I use chat software on are an off topic forum and a computer help forum. I have used it on other sites and on those the chat took over. Everyone went to posting in the chat instead of the fourm. What's your thoughts?
