Hello all, here is my problem, this is NOT the same Vista file copy slow. I have noticed when I transfer files to a share on my 2008 server the speed is between 20-35MB, but if I transfer a file to the admin share like C$ the transfer speed is 80-110MB. Why is there a difference and is there a way to get the share transfer speeds up to 80MB+? What am I missing? OK after some more research I see that if I create a share on C: I get the high transfer rates but a share on any other drive the speed is between 20-35MB. All of the drives are 15Krpm SAS drives, all connected to the SAS 6/iR controller. So why are my transfer speeds to C: so much faster than to the other dr…

I wrote a small program in Visual Basic which must be run every day at 2AM, so I added a task in the Task Scheduler to perform it automatically. I checked the status of such an operation and I see a Last Run Result of 0x8004131F which means that the task is already running. I also checked the properties of the task and clicked the History tab and I see the following entries: * (Information - Event ID 140) Task Scheduler failed to start "\Herramientas\ActualizacionSitios" task for user "TERES01\teressoft". Additional Data: Error Value: 2147750687. * (Error - Event ID 101) Task Scheduler did not launch task "\Herramientas\ActualizacionSitios" because instance "{344a99…

Hello everyone, I´m trying to establish OPC communications from a machine with WS 2008 and I´m having problems configuring DCOM through DCOMCNFG. I want to alter the permissions for DCOM, but when I open: Component Services ---> MY Computer --> Properties --> Com Security tab. the buttons "Edit Limits" are grayed out, and I can´t find a way to give them back to normal life. I have Domain admin key with admin rights on the local server. I have tried to delete all users in the security policy (Local Security Settings-> Security Options -> DCOM: Machine Launch Restrictions) but that didn´t work. We have a 2003 forest. We are going to install a 2008 RODC in our DMZ and a 2008 DC in our LAN because of an extranet SharePoint project. The only thing Im confuse about, are the RPC dynamic ports. I did they things described in the following articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154596/en-us http://www.pbbergs.com/windows/articles/FirewallReplication.html The second article stated that those registry setting should only be applied to the DCs in the DMZ. But because we use a RODC in DMZ, and it can only communicate with a writable 2008 DC in our LAN, I think I should apply these registry setting also on this 2008 DC in our LAN. But again if I do that, dont I…

I had a system failure and needed to restore from a backup, but I am having many problems. I did a full system backup to a NAS drive a few weeks ago. Our server failed (replaced HDD) and I needed to restore from that backup. I tried to restore from the boot DVD but got an error message. I decided to complete a fresh server 2008 install and try a restore, with no luck. Here is exactly what happens: - I launched Windows Server Backup - Selected Recover\A Backup Stored in Another Location\Remote Shared Folder\ - I entered the NAS location path: \\192.168.101.135\office\full system backup - I get the following error message: "The process cannot access the file bec…

I'm having an issue with a Windows 2008 Std (x86 install) server that I recently put in place of an aging Windows 2000 file server. After I renamed the original server to a new name and changed the IP. I then renamed the new 2008 server to the name of the old server and gave it the old IP. After rebooting I try to logon as a domain account and it stays forever at "Please wait for the user profile service". I can logon as the local admin without an issue. Also the shares are completely accessible to domain users and my Backup Exec server has no problem connecting to it? Any thoughts on what is going wrong. Thank you in advance, Sean

Hi I have a question about creating a bootable DVD for the Windows 2008 operating system. In the past I have been using the NERO software to make bootable Windows CDs for other operating systems. I downloaded the Trial version of the Windows 2008 64 bit version which is about 2.5 GB. The issue that I have is that when I try to make a bootable DVD in Nero, it complains that one of the files is over 2 GB and will not allow a bootable ISO to be created. I am able to burn the DVD with the UDF file system, however, this is not bootable. I can not upgrade from an existing 32 bit operating system with the 64 bit Windows 2008. Can someone assist with the steps to c…

Thanks in advance for any help given. We are currently in the process of turning over from novell to AD and are running into a few snags... We use novell to map drives for certain users in our system. Each user group has different drive mappings to various locations on sometimes seperate servers My question is, is it possible to map a drive, using windows built in drive mapping, to a location outside of the domain? Its possible using a login script, but we were wondering if it was possible using the group policies (it will save us a lot of scripting etc...) We have also noticed that if you have 2 drive maps in a policy and one of them does not work, it affects…

Let everyone know what kind of server hardware you installed Windows Server 2008 to. It will help us put a list together of hardware that is compatible. If you have any problems with certain hardware add a note about the conflicts.
