Right, I started revising for 70-640 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory. To do this, I installed Windows Server 2008 on my computer, created a domain called contoso. So far, I have followed the book with practises etc and no problem. Now, I used Virtual box to install ServerCore as I didnt have another computer to work with and the problem I am having here is, I cant join "contoso" domain. I have set ipv4 static ips without a problem but cannnot join domain and i am guessing its a network issue, virtualbox not allowing connection between Server01 and Server02 so i hoped I could use some help here. Setup ---------- Server01 (Windows Server 2008 install…

I'm in the process of learning the Application Server role on Server 2008 but the definition I'm coming across do not have me in a state of understanding. The following is the definition that I have most commonly come across: "Application pools consist of one or more URLs that are served by a worker process or a set of worker processes. They use process boundaries to separate applications." Ok, so its one or more URLs, but "served by a worker process or a set of worker processes"? What do they mean by worker processes? Can anyone give me a better explanation of Application Pools and an example please? Thanks.

I am trying to map a drive like so: net use \\10.10.10.10\sharename Password /USER:Username /YES I get a 1219 error telling me that you can't map more than one drive to the same resource. (note I am mapping without a drive letter, because I am using in an SSIS package and I don't know what drive letter will be available at runtime) But if I try to disconnect the drive like this net use \\10.10.10.10\sharename /DELETE /YES It tells me it can't find the network resource. How can I be mapped to a drive that it can't find? How to get out of this situation? The user I am using to map the drive is a local user on the remote 10.10.10.10 box. Thanks

I installed a new 2008R2 64 bit server and moved a couple hundred Gig of data from my old 2003 32 bit server to it and shared it out and set permissions as they were on the old server. Users try to access their data only to be denied access at different levels in the sub folder structure. When I go to the folder and reset the permissions it acts like it is working but will just sit there with the status bar going across the screen forever and I am unable to even cancel it and have to log off the server in order to stop it. Even as the administrator I cannot change it nor can I even copy or delete the folders or files it will just hang. Has anyone seen this and kn…

Hello, i have question on Group Policies. The scenario could be like this: Lets say I have OU XXX with 2 sub OUs: XXX_Users and XXX_Comps. There are 200 users, with same restrictions, privileges, etc... One day 2 users are promoted, and they have gained privileges to auto start some program upon logon... 1 user chooses Calc.exe and other chooses winamp.exe. How can I set that parameter on user level inside GP? that option should work anywhere user tries to login (like other location, or other OU). If you need some more explanation on this, feel free to ask. Thank You in advance Neven

SEO Career in India!! As technology advances, the way we produce and sell goods and services changes. And today, the one thing that is changing the selling/purchasing game all over the world is the Internet. More and more sellers are starting to have a presence online, while more and more customers are taking their money to the Internet and exchange it for products and services. In this context, where trade barriers are falling down, developed countries like USA and those on Western Europe are protecting their markets, not with taxes, but with other types of barriers, like quality standards. In order to overcome these, Indian companies and executives have to find…

Hi there! I have hit the wall like you would say in my seat. I have installed Windows Server 2008 RC2 64-bit on my HP Probook 6450b Everything worked fine until I realized that I didn't have any internet connection. I know that Vista drivers should work in Windows Server. But they didn't. So I installed my wireless drivers. They show up, YAY!. But they don't work either... The wireless card is found and installed, but it says Disabled. I have tried various methods to activate it again. Does anyone have a solution for my problem? Thanks for reading this!

Hi, I am trying to configure VPN access to my Window 2008 Server. I have managed to set server roles: -have installed IIS server with all security addons. -have installed Netowork Policy and Access role My problem is: When I go to Active directory user and computers, I open the user that I would like to allow access to VPN services. Then when I go to Dial-in tab I am getting this Error message (screenshots included): Could not load the Dial-in profile for this user because: The endpoint format is invalid. Then I click OK and another error shows up: Dial-in page initialization failed. I have been googling all over the internet. I have found some inform…

OSPF is a complex protocol. To help beginners grasp abstract its concepts, a different approach is taken -- Visualizing OSPF simulation. This tutorial, OSPF basic, simulates the basic OSPF activities on a simple topology: H1-R1-R2-H2. R1 and R2 are routers. H1 and H2 are hosts. This simulation shows 4 stages: 1) R1 and R2 are not running OSPF. H1 ping H2. It fails. 2) Start OSPF on two routers. R1 and R2 discover each other as neighbors by flooding Hello. 3) R1 and R2 develop Full relationship and synchronize their LSA (Link State Advertisement) database by sending DD, Request, and Update. R1 and R2 refresh their routing tables. H1 and H2 become reachable. 4) H1 pi…

Hi, I just got myself a VPS server 2008 RC2. I have added a domain role to the server. Then I have a Windows XP laptop at home. I am trying to connect this laptop to the domain. At this point I am using Wifi connection, so I know, that I won't be able to log in to domain after computer restart. I can ping the server from my laptop. Also I have changed the DNS configuration, so the server's ip is first on my list. Also I have created an account in Domain controller for my laptop) But I can't add laptop to the servers domain. It is giving me error: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." (error code 0x0000007B ERROR_INVALID_NAME) …

Hey there! I'm new to the forum, and I'm glad I found this resource, as I'm going to be learning server 2008 r2 and setting up a server... I have a few basic questions about networking it properly so that I can see it from the outside. I have the basic concept, I think, but it's not working at the moment... this is how I had it set up currently: 1- Business line from Cox with an external static IP, which I believe is using IP passthrough. 2- Linksys E1000 router, configured to receive static IP, with the following information (supplied by cox): Internet IP address: 98.190.168.244 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240 Default gateway: 98.190.158.241 DNS1: 68.105.28.11 …
