The most temporary a link can be is a paid placement on a search engine. When you sign up with Microsoft, Yahoo, or Google to pay for an advertisement spot for a given keyword, you are not buying a link; you are buying a paid listing in the search results that is not guaranteed to even show up. Search engines do not index these links, and they are completely ignored when they are determining how much of an authority your site is. This is a common misconception among newbies, and you should be glad that you won't be wasting any money on your SEO efforts purchasing paid placements on the big search engines. Moving away from search engines, however, most websites allow yo…

I read this article and don't know if it will be good or bad for us. It looks like Google caffeine will use page load time as a factor for sites being listed. The time listed in the article is 3 seconds. 3 seconds in this day and age is slow so it shouldn't hurt too bad. It's just interesting that Google is going this way. Now we'll have one thing to worry about when we optimize our sites for Google. I can see it now. We'll have stop watches out timing our page loads so that Google doesn't penalize us.

Hello hello, I've installed my windows server 2008 (x64) and install all the prerequisites to use hyper-v. I was able to install all the VM i wanted and was able to add to the mmc on the client computer. My situation is this: I want to create VMs for the all users on the AD individually and associate the VM to them. I wonder if there is a way for the user to login on the client computer (which is on the domain) and start directly his/her session on his/her session. If its not possible, when they open their mmc that they only see their VM, not the others that are not associate to them. (I hope it makes sense :( ) Thank you for reading and trying to help me out

I have a program installed on the server that I want 6 client computers to be able to access. The program opens and runs on the server fine and I can access the server to install the program on the client computers and it appears to install fine without any errors but when I try to open the program I get the attached error message. The IT person we use has been through everything he can think of on the server (sharing folders, permissions, etc.) so that the folder should be available and I have also been through everything with the makers of the software and they can't get it to work either. I'm hoping that someone here recognizes what this error message and can direct me…

I got a new box and installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on it. Then made it a domain controlller, assigned FSMo roles, DNS, DHCP roles and replicated AD from old DC that I want to eventually remove. After all this done I trid to restart the machine but it just hangs there at "shutdown" stage. Any hints?

Guys, I am getting a little confused with this (been on it for around 4 days now!). The environment is Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation on a Workgroup with 3 Printers connected via USB to the server. All users connect wirelessly and DHCP is handled by the Wireless Router. Firstly the reason for using a workgroup is because all staff laptops are running Windows 7 Home Premium which will not connect to a domain. Also the staff connect to customer networks when visiting them and therefore this avoids any 'incidents' whilst they are out of the office. The problem I am having is that a user will connect to the wireless network to find the shared printers greyed out, …

Either I am blind or something, but I can not see AppLocker as an option to configure for a group policy. Does the policy have to include a group that have user groups and not groups of computers? I have yet to upgrade the computers to Windows 7 Ult. I'll be doing that in the next week or so. Any ideas?

So I recently started a new virtual server cluster, including two DCs, an IIS server and a File share server. First three flew through the installs perfectly, but I cannot add the fourth one to the domain. I have tried everything I can think of, changing the computer name and description, pinging the DCs, changing the DNS server entry and the DNS order, removing and adding the IIS server from the domain to ensure the DC is valid, yet nothing seems to work properly. The DCs are working, the IIS server can add and remove fine, yet the file sharing server just keeps failing on the authorization to join the domain. I have run out of ideas and am reaching out to the community …

Hi, I have just installed Windows Server 2008 R2 as a file sharing server for 20 staff... and also to be used as a .Net testing/dev server. Can someone kindly tell me how I should be setting up user accounts & groups for file sharing? I would like to create file sharing only users, but I can only seem to create new users with a desktop user account on the actual server? Thanks in advance for any help. H.Risley

Have a weird issue all of a sudden. I have an administrative log in for my 2008 domain controller. All of a sudden today I cannot log in at the console or through remote desktop. I can log in from a workstation and access all shares, including administrative shares. I attempted to log in as administrator and since I haven't done this in a while it prompted me to change the password. I changed the administrator password and now can not log in as administrator either. I'm baffled.
