I am running Windows Server 2008 Server Core I am thinking of upgrading to full installation 32 bit. Can I just upgrade or do I do a clean install? It is my thoughts that you can not just upgrade or modify the Server Core to Full installation that you have to do a complete clean install. And if I do a clean install all of the information in the Server Core will be lost correct. Thank you for all replies in advance. Codin

Hello forum! Have a question: three servers: 2K PDC, 2003 Exchange member server, new 2008 member server. Our 2K lost domain. Restoring domain from back up went wrong. Plan B: disconnect 2K server, use Cvsde to export OUs and users/computers, install on 2008 AD, import into it users, ous and computers, give that domain same name as 2k has, give it same IP address and name. Then make sure users can sign in. Question - will member Exchange server work with new domain controller as nothing happened? Will it see that domain controller is not what it was? Will users have their mailboxes avail, and send/receive? I need to go in this Saturday and do the trick. Ufff.…

Hi, I'm facing the most bizarre issue ever. I have recently switched over from Server 2000 to server 2008 running web server. The webpages hosted are developed in house using ASP.Net (VB scripts) and database used is Microsoft Access database. This is where the bizarre issues shows, there are some PCs connected on the Local LAN, are unable to view certain reports created where some are able to view everything without any issues. The users are all controlled by Active directory, and all users are configured to be Domain users. Can Anyone help?

I have a windows server 2003 network with two domain controllers. I have installed the first windows server 2008 server but I have not joined the domain yet. Should I run forestprep or dcprep before joining the 2008 server to the domain. The 2008 server will not be a domain controller.

Hello all, I will start off by saying that I am very new to this and I've kind of hit a roadblock early on. I've set up my home server and named it server1. I have 2 usernames so far and that is Administrator and Anthony, there is also the guest account which I currently have turned off. I added some files and set them to be accessible when logged in as anthony and that worked out great but I wanted to make sure they were not accessible from other accounts such as guest. So I temporarily turned on the guest account and signed in as guest and sure enough it wouldn't let me access them, yay. then I turned off the guest account, however, now whenever I go into my computer an…

Hello, First off, please excuse my complete inexperience in these matters. Everything I know, (not being that much) is self taught so there are large gaps. I own and collocate a dedicated server in the UK. Mainly I use the server for VOIP and a few game servers. Recently, the server has been under what is best described as a very small DOS attack. Its not quite blocking up the connection entirely, but it is causing intermittent lag spikes and occasionally complete loss of connection. With nothing running on the server at all, there is a constant .20-.30% network usage with spikes of up to 2.50% (this is on a 100Mbps connection) To find out what this mystery n…

Please help with windows Server 2008 lockup problems. I've got a new hp server running windows server 2008. This servers role is to write data from 12 or so plcs to a mssql 2008 database that it hosts. It also displays this data using its web server; only 10 users or so. The load is very light. The problem I have occurs on regular intervals in the range of 7 to 8 days. MsSql will continue to log data but the web server will not work, nor can you log in when things go wrong. A login attempt at the machine or by remote desktop will just pause indefinitely after you supply a password. I can't find anything in the event viewer that would show where the error is coming from…

I have a Windows Server 2008 Standard with a Raid1 config. When it boots it says that the raid is online and functional. It then gives you the choice of starting normally, last known func ( doesnt have one) security login etc etc. When i choose Normall it goes black and the harddrives are going wild. Nothing happens. When i choose Secure login it stops at in the middle of the driver loading. It worked one time after I did a chkdsk. I loged in and checked the logs. There were nothing of value there. It had a lots of failed windows update, so I ran all the updates again. Reboot the server and the same problem is their again. Have anyone seen this before or heard of it?…

I recently installed a phone system into a customers site. We have a soft phone application that we loaded on a few of the customers PCs. When we open one it works fine. When we open the second we get an error, Server.exe.config Only one usage of each socket address. In this Server.exe.config file on the local pc it is set to point to url=tcp://localhost:8000/MyApp/. Working with tech support we found that the software uses tcp port 8000 to open up the GUI for the application on the localhost, and this is somehow being blocked. The customer has an ISA server, we have found that when we remove the computers with the soft phone application from the domain or disconne…
