In my permissions list, I have a red X on the 'built-in administrator' account on the name itself. After some searching I havent come up with a solution to this. I have a domain, and the server (Server 2008 R2) itself does not have the red X on the administrator account. It is only on the client computers. Any ideas as to what is going on? Any help is appreciated. :) DT

Hello, I'd like to block on Windows Server 2008 TCP Port 80 so internet access is not possible. But I have a list with a few IP addresses which are allowed to use PORT 80, so it's actually blocked for everyone, except for the people that are listed in a list. I would also like create a webpage (.html) for the people that are not allowed to use PORT 80. How can I do this? Thanks in advance, Jorgoo

Server 2008 ; Scheduled Tasks cant run a batch file; this seems a known issue, my troubleshooting doesnt work, but I find myself confused about assigning the "Full Control" permission explicitly to .bat file for the account running the task. ; I am logged in as administrator, when I look at permissions for the directory and the batch file I see I have full control checked. But I also note that I can change settings for User, but not for Administrator ; what is this telling me ? I also see two shades of gray check marks, and I cant make sense of this either. Is this the issue preventing TS from running the file ? ( I can run it manually fine) Is there a 3rd party TS …

I have a small server 2008 R2 setup in a non-production environment to test and learn about the OS itself and eventually other applications and services. I have been trying for about the last week to install a second DC. Every time I try do this, I run dcpromo.exe and it says this exactly: "This computer is already an Active Directory domain controller. You can use this wizard to uninstall Active Directory Domain Services on this server" This is the only option I am given. All of the texts I read say to run dcpromo.exe and just 'install another DC' (spoken sarcastically because of the issues I am currently having) for fault tolerance and the like, but I simply ca…

After installing Office 2007 (including Outlook 2007) on a Windows 2008 server standard, the preview handler of Outlook e-mail messages is not working in the Explorer (extension .msg). How can I enable or register this to work. I thought that this would work automatically in Windows 2008 (as it does in Windows Vista and Windows 7). I've already tried to copy registry entries from a Vista System, but without result (the only result was that the preview pane gives a blanc page, without the message 'No Preview available') Does anyone know how to get .msg previewing in Explorer? Ria

Currently my organization has 8 satellite offices which use a terminal server (2008) located in our main office. I am attempting to make it so that a user that logs in from location B will only see printing devices located at location B, not from any other location. Curently, any user logged into our TS can see all printers and it is getting very cluttered. How can I achieve this? Thanks in advance. BSDAdmin

Hi guys, I am running a WIN2008R2 Rootserver for my friends, mostly for Gameservers, Voiceservers etc. and I have a little problem. One of the Games I am hosting, I don't think that many are Gamers here so I might as well not mention the name of the Game, doesn't matter really, I run several Servers of. Since the Server Hardware isn't used really by the Gameservers, my problems sure don't originate in Resources. Usually one of the Servers hangs up, could be because of a wrong or broken map (Game Map) or something, but when it does, it causes all the other Servers of the same Game to also have high CPU use and of course at that point there is no getting into them any…

Hey Everyone, I have a 2008 R2 Server that is experiencing random lockups. There is no BSOD, no memory dump, and no Event log entries to work from. Symptoms: When it has crashed, I cannot access any file shares, services, RDC, DNS or even the login screen directly on the server, BUT I can ping successfully. The only thing that resurrects the server is a hard reboot. Sometimes the server will go for weeks without any issues, then it will start locking up 3 - 4 times per day. I cannot correlate this to any changes in the environment or usage. The system is running the following services: File Share, Folder Redirection for (desktop, mydocs) on 7 PCs (5 xp, 2 win 7),…

Hi all, I have a Windows 2008 server, latest updates are installed 2 weeks ago, and it's running as a virtual on a Hyper-V host running 2008R2. The server is a webserver, but runs some scheduled tasks too. Since about one month, all scheduled tasks suddenly stop getting fired at sunday-night, sometimes around 0700pm, sometimes around 1100pm local time. I can't find anything in the event-logs, I can only determine the time because I can see log-entries from a batch that runs every 3 minutes and suddenly stops. Removing and recreating the tasks doesn't work, but after a server-reboot they run again. Happened again yesterday-night, I don't know what to do. The Task Schedu…

Hi, I have made a share (name: UserProfiles) for the roaming profiles for the users. However, the users can access the share (if they type \\server\UserProfiles) and there they can make folders. Can you prevent that the users can access of make folders there? Thanks!

Gents, I've installed Routing & Remote Access Role and all the other bits inc Network Policy Server. I am using an XP servcie PK3 Laptop with a Vodaphone Mobile Connect Internet connection to test dialing into my Server 2008 R2 which is on Virmin Business Account. When I dial up on XP machine to use VPN, it connects fine. I can ping all the machine's IP addresses located on my server 2008 LAN network. If i try and access any of the remote network folders such as typing in \\Sever\c or even just \\Server (server is name of my 2008 R2 machine) then I get bloddy long pause and eventually an error window saying the 'specified network name is no longer available' …

hi, I have configured a vpn server using RRAS and I give internet access to clients using NAT. I have 10 public IP addresses and I added them to address pool in NAT. I want these 10 IPs spread over 100 clients randomly. but the problem is that all clients get only one of these IP addresses and the rest remain unused. I tried adding all IPs to TCP/IPv4 as extra ip without any success. should I do anything else to solve this issue? I would appreciate your help Regards
