Hi there, I recently made the mistake of installing Windows Server 2003 on a blank hard drive that happened to be hooked up to a computer running Windows Server 2008. I booted from the Windows 2003 CD and directed it to install on the empty hard drive. I didn't expect it to change anything on my main hard drive. When I rebooted, the computer automatically defaulted to Server 2003, without giving me the option of choosing which operating system to boot under. When I changed the boot drive sequence to only boot from my Windows 2008 hard drive, it still kept booting from the hd containing 2003. When I examine the contents of the separate hard drives, it appears that 2003 i…

I have installed Windows Server 2008 and have enabled Anonymous Authentication. However when I try to load the url I am still getting a logon. I am using IE7, 6 and even older and still get the login screen. In the previous versions you had IUSR_computername, but with IIS7 things are a bit different. I thought I had addressed this issue using default IUSR by enabeling AA. I am really stumped....

We are cutting over from PS4 on W2k3 to XenApp 5 on W2k8. When we test our anon apps (exam, logon and some kiosks) they fail to properly authenticate to the 2008 server. Instead of allowing OS access it brings us to the logon screen. Our config is as follows; Thin client starts and grabs a dhcp reservation file, that points it to an ftp server and share. The ftp server has one share for each anon app. \\ftpserver\ C:\Inetpub\ftproot\exam \\ftpserver\ C:\Inetpub\ftproot\logon \\ftpserver\ C:\Inetpub\ftproot\kiosk ect Each of the shares has a wnos.ini that specifies the ica connection settings, this works fine in W2k3 but the same file fails in W2k8. Here is a…

Hi everyone. Here is the issue: Windows standard x32 with DFS as a file server. A user has an access database on the server. Sometimes the database file gets corrupted and it locks. The server DFS stops responding and users lose access to their files. The work around is to close the file and reboot the server. I get no event logs or error except for the fact that the user cannot get to the access database. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a small VB script that I put in logon script of Windows 2008 Group policy. All the users in the domain are able to get the script - the script is basically ask the end user to fill-in some information in the GUI. Some guys are filling the information and some guys are quitting the application and getting in to their work. My question here is that - Can we put any restriction on logon script so that user must enter the information and then only he/she can move forward to work. Thank you

I have configured Windows server2003 active directory and I see some of the clients are not getting controlled by group policy settings of the AD server. I put the standard wall paper, screen locking, password policy etc. How to check whether all the clients are getting controlled by the server and how to make sure that the clients are applied with AD group policy settings. My clients are running with XP 32bit and XP 64bit and all the clients are given the AD server IP as the primary DNS, still some of the policies doesn't work. All the systems are up to date with Windows pacthes and with latest available service pack. Thank you.

Hi all you helpful people :) So here's my problem: At my school, they've for some reason chosen to teach us about Windows Server 2003, which I think is stupid, so I asked my teacher why we didn't use the updated Windows Server 2008. His reply was that you could do the exact same things in Windows Server 2003 as you can in 2008. He continued by telling me if I could find -one- thing you can do in Windows Server 2008 that you can't in 2003, he would get me a copy of 2008, and consider upgrading to 2008 for my class. I can't say I'm much of an expert at Windows Server, so I decided to come here and ask you people if you could help me find out a major difference be…

Hi :) This is starting to annoy me, but I can't seem to fix it, so I though i might drop a question here. I have AD and DNS running on my windows server. I tried to join the domain with a client, and got the error "The network path was not found" or something like that.. Alright, so as my DNS server is working, and client is setup to use it, i tried to share a folder on my server called "share" I then tried to connect to it using \\server-ip\share And then i got a message saying that the path was invalid, I then tried just to connect to the ip, which didn't help either. Alright, it could be the firewall blocking, so i disabled the firewall, tried and got …

Not sure if what I want to do is possible, but here goes. I work at a small middle school. We are running server 2008, and have assigned all teacher laptops by an assigned school district number. i.e. A123456 (this is the username when they signon) All these folders reside in C:\data\users\teachers\ folder What I would like to have displayed in the right hand pane of the windows explorer when the "teachers" folder is highlighted (in the left pane) is a column with the last name of the teacher so I don't have to keep looking up their numbers when I want to work on their folders. When I right click on the Column header, there is a column heading offered called …

I have RDS running on a Server 2008 R2. Using the RemoteApp Manager, I added the Calculator applet and QuickBooks application to the RemoteApp Programs list. On my WinXP sp3 workstation I set up two RDP files for each of the above apps. Calc runs fine, but Quickbooks gives me the "Access is Denied" error. The folder permissions for each seem to be the same. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance
