Hello, We are pleased to announce the release of our new MS Windows Server 2008 Administration test. This certification test is available for free on our site for a limited time as we gather data to monitor its performance. Be among the first to take this test and measure your level of expertise with the new content. These tests are developed as pre-employment assessments where Windows Server 2008 is used significantly in the candidate’s job role. Once again, when helping with this test validation, completion of the test offers free certification. Hi everyone, I've been trying for 5 days now to deploy Windows Server 2008 R2 onto our server. It likes to freeze at "Expanding Files". I've tried resetting the bios, and trying to insert different RAM sticks. The first time I tried, I managed to get Windows Server 2003 Enterprise X64 installed, then I attempted to "Clean Install" Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, but that time it froze at the very last step "Completing Installation". I forgot, the motherboard is a Foxconn G33M, Pentium D 3.00GHz processor, 250GB SATA HDD, and 2GB of RAM. Please help. Thank you!

Hello I am a systems administrator with 20 years experience. Administered Windows desktops and severs with Unix and Linux. Brief experience with Novell too. I have over a decades experience with Samba. At a previous employer, there were Windows Severs, but was not responsible for administering those boxes. One of the accounting packages which will be used is not supported by Linux using Samba and as such have started to work on deploying at Windows Server box at one of my locations. Doing a new install. I had no problems with Windows 2008 server up until I played around with Active Directory in an effort to get user home directories. I am going to look around here…

Hi All, One of my customers is having issues with one of the VB6 software packages we develop. They are running Server 2008 R2 with Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Server), with native 2008 load balancing. I believe it is a virtual server running in VMWare on a Redhat box. The System specs are as follows. OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Processor: Intel® Xeon® CPU X5460 @ 3.16GHz (2 processors) RAM: 4.0GB System Type: 64 Bit The problem is the machine randomly BSOD reboots during the day. I have used windbg to review the memory dumps and have the results below. The faulting module seems to be win32k.sys but the process is my application Syne…

Hi, I try to call ServerManagerCmd.exe in C#. Below is my code: ProcessStartInfo startInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("ServerManagerCmd.exe", ""); Process process = Process.Start(startInfo); However, running this code always throws error "System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified". I have verified ServerManagerCmd.exe is in c:\windows\system32 and I can run it in a command window without specifying the full path. Also there is no problem to run some other exe files in the same directory through the C# code, for example, wevtutil.exe. I also called ServerManagerLauncher.exe in C#. It has the same problem as ServerMa…

I have enabled several settings such as remove run command from start menu, disable wallpaper changes etc. I've performed gpupdate /force from the command prompt. The XP client does not acknowledge any of the changes. why is this happening? it is doing my head in. there are no local policies setup on the xp machine. I have not messed with the default domain policy either. please help.

Dear techies, Please help me with a situation below: - I have the Routing and Remote Access role added and configured. - My server machine have 2 NICs. - One NIC has active internet connection from another gateway device, while the other NIC links to the other 2 sub-offices through a WAN. -ICS is on the NIC with internet and the other sub-offices access this connection. -This server hosts some shares visible to the all the users in the other locations. My task is to replace the Gateway Device with a Cisco 1841 Router while keeping the same setup. Any idea on how this can work is welcome. Attached is a basic hand-drawing showing this. Regards,

Here is the issue. I have an HP dl380 G3 server with dual nic's. It is running windows 2003, I know this is an 08 forum but I didn't think it would matter. Randomly NIC 1 stops responding, even thou on the server it says its up and running just doesn't recieve or send any packets. I can disable it and enable it again, and boom it works. But its getting really annoying when about every 7 to 16 hours it stops responding for some odd reason. Nic 2 is used for LAN and its always working and never has this issue. Its how I rdp in everytime. I updated everything, reinstalled all the drivers to make sure everything was up to date. I have tried everything I could thi…

Hi and thanks in advance for the patience and help. I am a first time computer maintenance worker in a physics research lab at a university and I'm starting to find myself in a little bit over my head (but I'm trying to learn as quickly as I can). I have a fair amount of knowledge of pc software/hardware and a decent amount of networking knowledge but i have never really worked with servers or raid arrays before. So, please bare with me and I'm sorry if my questions and/or abilities to answer your questions are weak. Problem: Windows will not load unless only the topmost and bottommost drives of our raid array are turned on. Even when the middle two drives are tur…
