Hi All, How do I check “Allow IIS intrinsic properties” in a COM+ application programmatically in Windows 2008 Server? Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but if some one know will be great. I have a script which supposed to work but it does not set the property in Windows 2008 Server. Hi All, My server experience consists of installing Server 2008 and updating the drivers. I bought an old server to practice on and would appreciate suggestions as to what server roles would be good for a beginner to start trying to learn. Currently I work helpdesk but would like to graduate to server management, I'd like to know the best general area to begin studying. I am non-technical as of now so most of this is very foreign to me, please be gentle. My short-term goal is to get this puppy set up as a DC and get my routers on the same subnet, my CURRENT config is: cable modem -> router1 (192.168.1.1) -> router2 (192.168.0.1), the server will sit on router…

Hey, I was playing with my backup DC and right after I installed Hyper V i not get an error every time I open my Server manager. It will not display my Roles or Features and I can't remove Hyper V which I'm about 99% sure caused the problem. Is there anyway I can remove a feature / role from the Powershell? I will attach an image of the error. If anyone could help that would be great. Thanks

Hi all, I'm just wondering if I'm going about this the right way, and could use some advice from those more experienced in this! The situation is this: I plan on running Server 2008 R2 as the domain controller, and get everyone on the internal network onto a roaming profile, with all users running Windows 7. I've already trialled this using 3 VMs (one Server, two clients) and everything works fine, but I just used ourcompany.testdomain as the domain name as it was only internal and pretty much just for fun! Right now, our company hosts it's website (which is low usage) on a VPS elsewhere, and it handles the E-Mail and web traffic for the domain. Let's say the dom…

hi at all, I have a problem with the VMs restore test. I have created a backup script in host server for my Hyper-V VMs: in this script a VSS backup via diskshadow is created, then VSS is exposed and copied on another location (NAS): DELETE SHADOWS ALL # Startup settings SET CONTEXT PERSISTENT SET METADATA c:\BACKUP\Backup.cab SET VERBOSE ON # Starting Backup BEGIN BACKUP ADD VOLUME C:\ ALIAS SystemVolumeC # CREATE # mount VSS backup EXPOSE %SystemVolumeC% X: # run cmd and copy vhd on NAS EXEC C:\BACKUP\copy_VMS_on_NAS.cmd UNEXPOSE X: # end backup END BACKUP All 2 Vms are windows server 2008 R2, host too. one is the PDC and one is Exchange 2007…

I'm trying to add 'altSecurityIdentities: Kerberos:@REALM' to user accounts. I did this on AD using Windows 2003 R2 and it worked fine, until I did a round robin replacement of both AD servers to Windows 2008 R2. I have 2 AD servers. Automated scripts create AD accounts from an upstream source. Users are added using dsadd user .... after which I add 'altSecurityIdentities: Kerberos:@REALM' for cross-realm authentication. from ldifde.exe ldifde -i -z -v -f ac.txt This always fails with these messages when run from command line: Connecting to "ad01.addomain.example.com"^M Logging in as current user using SSPI^M Importing directory from file "ac.txt"^M Loading …

Hi: On server 2008 we have IIS7 & zend server CE/php/mysql/apache which we need to run side by side to feed different parts of one integrated website. Config: --IIS7: 192.168.1.1:80 on VMware sphere4 nic 1 --Apache: 192.168.1.2:80 on VMware sphere4 nic 2 in netstat -ano both ip's are listening to port 80 IIS pages OK, Apache pages>>404 not found. Need to add directives to hosts file as per http://www.shanewelldon.com/2009/02/04/apache-and-iis7-together-on-sbs2008/ but am new to this and don't know the syntax or whatever else I need to do to get the apache side working. Thank you, Chris

Can you use Server 2008 to host shared files in a Workgroup rather than using it as a domain server?

Hi, I've got a 4GB Winserver 2008, SP 2, 64 bit system that mysteriously shuts down and restarts at random intervals from a few days to a few months appart. It has APC powerchute installed and a check of it's log does not reveal any power outages or battery back up tests. We've confirmed that the UPS has sufficient power for this system. How do I figure out if I'm looking at a hardware problem, (One tech recommended adding a second redundant powersupply)or a software problem? The only other software installed on this machine is Filemaker Server 10 and the techsupport boards over in Filemaker land aren't reporting any mysterious shut down issues there. The restart…

Hi, I have a small test network on which I am setting up Windows Server 2008 R2. I have done a few tests regarding AD and I think I should be able to sort things out, however, despite looking through the server 2003 docs and books I still use, and searching online, I miss out on the info I need to feel comfy when enabling DHCP. As it is I have a D-Link router that provides the DHCP adresses on the network, and when I last tried to switch to Server DHCP I just messed up and ended up not knowing what I was doing. As far as I can tell the DHCP is necessary for AD and running a DC, so I will have to disable DHCP on the Router, but how do I know the new DHCP adresses w…

After Google, Yahoo and Bing which search engines bring in traffic to your site? I get a lot of traffic from the big 3, but, very little from the other less important search engines. Which search engines other than Yahoo, Google and Bing bring traffic to your site?

Is being listed in Yahoo of any importance? A few years ago a link in the Yahoo directory was worth it's weight in gold. Now it doesn't seem to drive any traffic or very little traffic to the sites that I have listed there. Also the number of visitors I get from the pages listed in Yahoo search doesn't seem to help much either. What's your thoughts on Yahoo and do you think it is important to optimize for Yahoo?

Hi, I went into Server 2008 GPO, created a new GPO. I went to user config > preferences > windows settings > map drives I created a new drive mapping, Action: Create Location: \\server2008\hr private Checked Reconnect Labeled: hr private Selected P: as my drive map Linked this to my HR group. Before this I create the folder, gave everyone full share rights and gave the HR group full rights. If I login as the user I don't get the drive mapping but I can access it by \\server2008\hr private Am I missing something else? patch

Hey guys- I want to give access to a folder via the RemoteApp Programs window. Users would be able to open and copy/paste documents into a file folder (and all sub folders) through that window. I DO NOT want to give them access via FTP or the Desktop. Is this possible to do? How do I do it? Thanks

Is buying paid submissions in link directories worth it? Do you think it helps you get a backlink better?
