Hello, I was wondering if someone can tell me what a particular type of network is called so I can research into setting it up. What I want to do is connect two buildings to a database (located in one building). I want the remote building to save a "ghost" database of sorts so that in case of network interuption it is not completely unable to function with the database. Then when it manages to reconnect over the internet it will update any changes it may have had in the database. Is this possible and if so is there a name for it so I can learn about setting it up? Many thanks.

Is there a way for an individual user to ONLY be allowed to login on weekdays, between 8am and 5pm? I'm fairly certain theres a feature like this.. I'm new with Server 2008 and I'm just wondering how to go about this. (It is not RC2, and a step-by-step guide would be great!) Also another question while I'm here, but it's off topic..: How do I change a users properties so that their 'home folder' is set to D: drive? And how do I use UNC for that?

Hi, I have an issue with Windows NLB and I'm not sure if it should be behaving like it is right now. Basically, I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on two VMs using ESXi 4. Installed IIS and NLB on both servers. Set one server's priority to 1 (Server A)) and the other's to 2 (Server B)). All ports allowed and affinity set to single. Communication set to multicast. I tested access using another VM on the same network. [Affinity=Single] With both servers online, I telnet to the cluster IP and hostname on port 80. No problems. Then I brought Server A offline. Server B remains online. Telnet fails on both cluster IP and hostname. Next, I brought Server A online and Se…

Hi all, We ultimately need a GPO that will kill any Microsoft Access process after a certain amount of time. I know for a fact the GPO's are capable of locking the users PC after say a 15 minute idle duration, but is it at all possible (scripts, any means necessary) to kill any lingering MSACCESS.EXE process the user may have going before lockifng their PC?

Means, I have working in multi-user mode and so, many users will connect to my PC & run application provided. I need to put current Windows Server Session ID in that column. I can get session ID using ProcessIdToSessionId() API. But I don't know who to add that in Windows Server Event log. I know event log is changed compared with previous versions of Windows. Please help me. Thank…

Hi, I have Windows Server 2008 and I use it for a file server on my network. I use this server to share various files. I would like to implement a method of higher control of who exactly has access to my files, using usernames and passwords. I have done a fair amount of googling, and I have seen some solutions using "limitlogin" & "CConnect". Unfortunately it seems the above mentioned solutions require complex procedures using Active Directory (at least to me) or some configuring client-side. I have no access to the client computers. So far I have managed to disable my guest account and create users via local users and groups. This solution seems to be simple, h…
