I currently have a Server 2003 install. It's old. We had two drives crash in my RAID 5, so we're upgrading to new HP hardware. Installing Server 2008 on the new server. What should I be ready for and can I move my settings (IP settings, user rights, etc.) from the old server to the new server? Point me to any info you can. Thanks Charles

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this issue: I have a small network with 15 clients, 1 Win2008server, 1 ZyWall USG-100 firewall, two 10/100 switches and one wireless. At first the network ran the WAN through the server, which had an internal and external ethernet port set up. When I introduced the firewall to the network, I connected this to the WAN, and then connected the server directly to the firewall. The two switches then connect all the clients to the server through the firewall. I had planned to give the Zywall control of DHCP and DNS functions, to offload some functions of the server, as it was pressed. I did not think this through though, as the Activ…

Hi, I have been asked by a family member to setup a new server running 2008 Foundation. I have never setup a server before so am going through the process with whatever information I can find on the net. I have so far installed AD, DNS and IIS but am having problems with DNS. I can ping the ip address and the server name from another PC but it won't find the domain so I can't join it. I am using my router for DHCP but have given the server a static IP. I would be greatful if anyone has any suggestions about what I have done wrong and any additional info I can give to help diagnose.

SORRY ASKED THIS QUESTION IN WRONG PLACE. POSTED AGAIN IN GENERAL DISCUSSION. I have crtaeted an MMC console using mmc at run utility and named it as Security9 After creating mmc when I save it, by default its saved in the path "Desktop\Administrator\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administartive Tools\" When I go on start menu and click on "Administartive Tools", I dont see Security9 in the option list. Then I checked path for this "Administartive Tools" and this path was "c:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools\". So I saved Security9 under this path manually and now I can see it in the list of "Administr…

Hello we just upgraded our two domain controller at our main site to Server 2008, everything working. We went to our other site to replace the domain controller with a better server. Noticed since we upgraded our main servers that we are getting tons of KCC errors on our server at the remote sites, we cannot demote it to put the new domain controller in place. Everything was communicating fine until we did the upgrade at our main site how do we fix the 2003 DC that won't comunnicate with the other domains? They ping fine, but if we try to connect to the other DC from the remote site we get access denied. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, i have a server 2008 with two NICs. i have recently added routing and remote access role along with NAT capabilities. my company uses pppoe connection and i have created a demand dial interface for this connection. the clients use one of the NICs IP address as the default gateway. the demand dial interface does not connect automatically. i need to connect it manually if the connection drops. secondly, i need to amend the routing table on the server. when i do connect to the interface, i do not have my routing table updated accordingly. i always have to add route on the table and then the connection works. any light on the matter will be great. cheers

Hi guys. It like this: I finally set up everything to my dedicated server, PHP5, mySQL, IIS7, etc. and I have uploaded the site folder to the wwwroot. I tried surfing the main page using the raw IP address, and it works just fine, but when I tried to log on to the website (the main page is a login page), I get the error "500 - Internal Server Error" which is weird because I made sure I'm calling the right file. I'm really stumped as I've searching the net for hours trying to solve this problem. I'd really appreciate it if you guys help me. Thank you very much!

We just upgraded our two Windows Server 2003 domain controllers to Server 2008 R2. We upgraded our second DC first (BDC which doesn't exist in 2000-2008) so I ran the adprep commands on our first DC (that has all of the roles like BDC, Operations, etc) once the upgrade was completed we did the the first DC. Everything installed ok then we had problems with people going onto the net, we noticed if they had an incorrect Second DNS Server (the BDC) they couldn't get out, once we added it worked. The main DC will not go out on the internet on it's own using it's DNS Server, also when I do a recursive test it fails, on the other server it works fine. The main server is in our …

Hi everybody, I'm the user of the Windows 7 64bit and the latest release of VirtualBox. I've prepared new virtual machine for Windows 2008 Server (32 bit). I've used over 900 Mb of Ram and static hard drive with 20 Gb capacity (minimum requirements: 512 MB Ram, 10 GB). The installation mode starts properly but after typing the key, Windows gives me a message: "Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted". I'm installing a older CRM program onto a W2008R2 server. The setup places an .INI file into the Users/ID/Windows folder for configuration of the application for each user. If a normal user logs in, the file is NOT read but if the user is setup as an Administrator, the file is read and the program performs normally. I've already setup the application to run elevated and enabled auto-elevation without prompt. Again, if the person is in the Admin group it's fine but even as a Power User it still fails. Any ideas? Hi all, I have a sharing problem. I can not access my Win Server 2008 Standard from Win 2008 Enterprise, but I can access the files&folder fine from Win Server 2008 Standard with ther PC with non Server type (Vista, XP). And I also can access the Enterprise server from other computer or from the Server Standard. I already try to disable the all Firewall and antivirus from both server, nothing worked. Anyone have any idea / suggestion ? Thanks for your attentions

We’ve been testing Horizon internally for some time and are now ready to test here on Meta so we can get your feedback on how to continue improving this theme. In this topic, we’ll share the goals behind Horizon and provide guidance for how to test and share your feedback with us. Getting to know Horizon Horizon is a simple, beautiful theme that aspires to become the new out-of-the-box experience for Discourse sites. Who is Horizon for? While we hope that Horizon is a great fit for many communities, we created Horizon with specific users in mind — non-technical admins and everyday members. Non-technical admins are community admins who have limited technical expertise and no access to design or development resources. They don’t have the resources or know-how to customize Discourse’s appearance to work best for their community, but still believe that Discourse is a great fit for their community. Everyday members fall somewhere in between the one-time visitor and the elite power user. They regularly read and post in the community, and are more likely to visit Discourse primarily (if not exclusively) from their phones. We are proud that Discourse is so flexible and customizable, we want to make sure Discourse remains a great option for all communities, regardless of technical expertise or resources. We created Horizon for admins that don’t have access to design or developer resources, but still want a great looking community that your members will love. What’s different about Horizon? While our Default theme is a relatively blank slate, Horizon is an opinionated theme. That means we have made certain choices about how Discourse looks and operates while using this theme in order to provide a great overall user experience for our target users (described above). Here are some changes you might notice: Topic cards are less information dense. The most noticeable feature of Horizon is the topic card. We have pruned out as much information as we can to keep the topic list looking clean and approachable. Certain information, like a more robust list of topic participants and topic tags, are not visible on the topic card. Horizon is not intended to support additional customizations. Because we’re targeting an audience that isn’t able or interested in customizing Discourse’s appearance or behavior, Horizon is not guaranteed to work well with all theme components or customizations. That said, we’ve tested Horizon against the most popular theme components and the incompatibilities we’ve found so far are minor. We’ll work to address those over time. For now, we do not recommend activating theme components with Horizon or adding your own customizations. Horizon includes new color palettes that admins can enable to give members greater control over their community experience. Once enabled through the admin Color Palette settings, members can select from one of six theme-specific color palettes for a custom look and feel. Larger text in the reading area. You’ll notice that Horizon’s reading area (i.e. topics) has slightly larger text than the rest of the interface text. We’re experimenting with this differentiated text size with the hope that it makes topics easier to read, while keeping less important text — like sidebar links — more minimal and less distracting. Testing and sharing your feedback You can check out Horizon on Meta using the theme switcher in the bottom of your sidebar: As you test here on Meta or in your own community, you may run into issues with the visual design or incompatibilities with certain theme components or customizations. When that happens, please let us know. Your feedback will help us improve Horizon so that we can begin making it available more broadly. Please note that we may not address all feedback that we receive at this time. That doesn’t mean your feedback is invalid or invaluable — it just means we want to continue to test a certain idea or design decision to better understand how it serves the needs of our target users. Known issues / work in progress areas Here are a few areas where we’re actively working: Improving the topic timeline design. Right now it’s a little wide, we’d like to make it more subtle so it takes up less visual space and demands less attention. Identifying areas where layouts and styles aren’t applying correctly. The invite screens are one area where there are minor visual discrepancies. We’ve made a lot of these fixes already, but please keep letting us know as you find areas where things don’t look quite right. Touching up color palettes to ensure accessibility. Ever since we introduced the admin sidebar, our long term goal has been to bring a more comprehensive search to the admin interface that helps admins and moderators find exactly what they need without having to dig through many pages and settings manually. This method is so much faster than the old way, and we are excited to see if it helps you navigate the admin interface more efficiently . Finding what you’re looking for You can launch a quick search from anywhere in the admin interface with the shortcut Ctrl+/ , or on macOS, ⌘ +/ . This will bring up a window like this: You will see here that there are several different checked boxes beneath the input. These are the types of things you can search from here: Pages - Every page in the admin interface, including sub-pages not shown in the sidebar, and plugin pages Settings - Every site setting, which includes the setting description and keywords Themes - Every installed theme, whether they are enabled or disabled Components - Every installed theme component, whether they are enabled or disabled Reports - Every admin report, which includes a description of the report You can click these boxes to filter out the various types of search results. Here are some examples of each: Pages Settings Themes Components Reports You can also visit a full page version of the search by pressing Enter when results are being shown, or by clicking “Search” in the admin sidebar, which will take you to /admin/search. Enabling admin search You can turn this feature on with the experimental admin search enabled groups setting, which you can find in the Experimental config page at /admin/config/experimental: Note that when this feature is enabled, the keyboard shortcut for the admin sidebar filter is used for the search instead. Testing and sharing your feedback We are opening up this feature for feedback now, please post in this topic if you have any or if you notice any bugs that need to be fixed.
