Hi, I have discovered a weird issue with file services on Server 2008R2 64 bit datacentre [although it could be on any windows 2008 server] We have a data server that is setup for home drives and staff folders. each user has a homedrive shared as firstname.lastname$ and the users workstations map drive P to \\server\firstname.lastname$ What I have noticed is that I can map a network drive to anything on that server regardless of whether it is a real share or not. For example net use u: \\server\sharedoesntexist will actually map a drive U to nowhere. The U drive shows up as an 80Gb FAT partition but you can't save anything there. hi,need your help..i'm stucked. hard drive settings on win2k8 is like this: C - boot, paging, etc (30gb) - running out of space D - system partition (271gb) 190gb unallocated space (which i shrink from D partition) How to move system partition to the boot partition? so i can delete d drive and extend c drive to increase the partition. really need your help guys on how to solve this.. thank you so much in advance.. pls. help!!!

Hello I just joined the club and already have a problem. I installed the server software including domain, active directory and dns service. The problem is when I boot the system it takes about 30 min. to start up, is this normal ??? O by the way when I look at my system info it says OS=32bit I thought that the server comes only in 64 bit ? now I'm realy confused. What is wrong with my system ? ( its dualboot with win 7 32bit )

Good morning to all. I am very new to this, so please excuse me if I am in the wrong thread. I have recently had server 2008 standard r2 installed on a dedicated machine. I have 5 cals & 3 tsl and everything works fine execpt every morning I have to reboot the server because nobody can connect through remote desktop. The actual server does not hang, so I gather it has to be a connectivity problem with terminal services.Once I have rebooted it is fine for the whole day but sometime between midnight and 8 am something happens to stop rdt from connecting. I have done the basics such as turning off the firewall and setting all the options in power solutions to NEV…

Please tell me all the possible ways to generate revenue using a forum? I would love to eventually have my forums pay for themselves for server/hosting costs and that but wouldn't mind to get more to spend on the sites :D I always hear that some people make $3000.00 a month with forums and I just wonder how that is possible...LOL that's a second job to me!

Hi guys. I have a question. I hope you can understand my question. :) I have server and i got a user called USER1 which is regular user without administration privilege. User1 has all the permission to use the printer and he is also in a group which can use the print. Everything was fine but suddenly User1 can't print from the local computer but other users can print as usual. Only the particular user can't. can anyone tell me why it is ? is it something from the server or something on the local computer that i need check ? Can you help on this. Thanks

Hallo I have spend the last 2 days on google and calling around to friends trying to find a way to solve this problem. I'm trying to install Windows server 2008 R2 on my desktop. What happens: I boot up my system, booting from CD Windows loads files. But as it goes in to the installing "menu", the start of the installation. It comes up with an error saying it needs drivers for the dvd/cd drive. You guys have surely seen this error around before, but all the information i find about is, on WMware machines. Which don't really apply to my problem. My desktop is normally not a problem when it comes to testing out things, but I'll post my specs. XFX nForce 780…

I have a need to login to a computer with a local acct and a domain acct at the same time. the local acct is always staff but the domain acct may vary. I have a reception computer that logs in as staff but occasionally a user may want to access a folder on the server with domain credentials. Any thoughts

5.0.6 is on it's way to the land of cloud and deployment. We've got a freshly baked beta here for you today. There are loads of fixes, and new extensions. The full list is with our release notes. Key things include: More clunky javascript removal, more beautiful CSS used for transitions More slow javascript removed, more beautiful native Javascript used (fixes lots of minor things, including slow tag selection) More editor fixes More Javascript and CSS removed to address layout shifts and reflows for that beautiful Pagespeed. Bumper extensions and listeners for developers to use including: MFA Handlers, share services, userMenu additions, loads more listener types (polls, courses, files, etc), more extensions methods for tables and clubs. No tariffs Phew. As always, this is a beta release and with a fair amount of javascript changed and removed, you may come across the odd thing so please let us know if you do. -

We’ve been testing Horizon internally for some time and are now ready to test here on Meta so we can get your feedback on how to continue improving this theme. In this topic, we’ll share the goals behind Horizon and provide guidance for how to test and share your feedback with us. Getting to know Horizon Horizon is a simple, beautiful theme that aspires to become the new out-of-the-box experience for Discourse sites. Who is Horizon for? While we hope that Horizon is a great fit for many communities, we created Horizon with specific users in mind — non-technical admins and everyday members. Non-technical admins are community admins who have limited technical expertise and no access to design or development resources. They don’t have the resources or know-how to customize Discourse’s appearance to work best for their community, but still believe that Discourse is a great fit for their community. Everyday members fall somewhere in between the one-time visitor and the elite power user. They regularly read and post in the community, and are more likely to visit Discourse primarily (if not exclusively) from their phones. We are proud that Discourse is so flexible and customizable, we want to make sure Discourse remains a great option for all communities, regardless of technical expertise or resources. We created Horizon for admins that don’t have access to design or developer resources, but still want a great looking community that your members will love. What’s different about Horizon? While our Default theme is a relatively blank slate, Horizon is an opinionated theme. That means we have made certain choices about how Discourse looks and operates while using this theme in order to provide a great overall user experience for our target users (described above). Here are some changes you might notice: Topic cards are less information dense. The most noticeable feature of Horizon is the topic card. We have pruned out as much information as we can to keep the topic list looking clean and approachable. Certain information, like a more robust list of topic participants and topic tags, are not visible on the topic card. Horizon is not intended to support additional customizations. Because we’re targeting an audience that isn’t able or interested in customizing Discourse’s appearance or behavior, Horizon is not guaranteed to work well with all theme components or customizations. That said, we’ve tested Horizon against the most popular theme components and the incompatibilities we’ve found so far are minor. We’ll work to address those over time. For now, we do not recommend activating theme components with Horizon or adding your own customizations. Horizon includes new color palettes that admins can enable to give members greater control over their community experience. Once enabled through the admin Color Palette settings, members can select from one of six theme-specific color palettes for a custom look and feel. Larger text in the reading area. You’ll notice that Horizon’s reading area (i.e. topics) has slightly larger text than the rest of the interface text. We’re experimenting with this differentiated text size with the hope that it makes topics easier to read, while keeping less important text — like sidebar links — more minimal and less distracting. Testing and sharing your feedback You can check out Horizon on Meta using the theme switcher in the bottom of your sidebar: As you test here on Meta or in your own community, you may run into issues with the visual design or incompatibilities with certain theme components or customizations. When that happens, please let us know. Your feedback will help us improve Horizon so that we can begin making it available more broadly. Please note that we may not address all feedback that we receive at this time. That doesn’t mean your feedback is invalid or invaluable — it just means we want to continue to test a certain idea or design decision to better understand how it serves the needs of our target users. Known issues / work in progress areas Here are a few areas where we’re actively working: Improving the topic timeline design. Right now it’s a little wide, we’d like to make it more subtle so it takes up less visual space and demands less attention. Identifying areas where layouts and styles aren’t applying correctly. The invite screens are one area where there are minor visual discrepancies. We’ve made a lot of these fixes already, but please keep letting us know as you find areas where things don’t look quite right. Touching up color palettes to ensure accessibility. Horizon has a more streamlined color system (and has inspired some new color palettes, e.g. Lily, Clover, Royal, Marigold, etc.). Ever since we introduced the admin sidebar, our long term goal has been to bring a more comprehensive search to the admin interface that helps admins and moderators find exactly what they need without having to dig through many pages and settings manually. This method is so much faster than the old way, and we are excited to see if it helps you navigate the admin interface more efficiently . Finding what you’re looking for You can launch a quick search from anywhere in the admin interface with the shortcut Ctrl+/ , or on macOS, ⌘ +/ . This will bring up a window like this: You will see here that there are several different checked boxes beneath the input. These are the types of things you can search from here: Pages - Every page in the admin interface, including sub-pages not shown in the sidebar, and plugin pages Settings - Every site setting, which includes the setting description and keywords Themes - Every installed theme, whether they are enabled or disabled Components - Every installed theme component, whether they are enabled or disabled Reports - Every admin report, which includes a description of the report You can click these boxes to filter out the various types of search results. Here are some examples of each: Pages Settings Themes Components Reports You can also visit a full page version of the search by pressing Enter when results are being shown, or by clicking “Search” in the admin sidebar, which will take you to /admin/search. Enabling admin search You can turn this feature on with the experimental admin search enabled groups setting, which you can find in the Experimental config page at /admin/config/experimental: Note that when this feature is enabled, the keyboard shortcut for the admin sidebar filter is used for the search instead. Testing and sharing your feedback We are opening up this feature for feedback now, please post in this topic if you have any or if you notice any bugs that need to be fixed. At this time, we won’t be going much deeper into improvements for this search, but we will make it as good as we can in its current state.
