Hi, I'm very new to Server2008 and quite a newbie in general: Previously when I powered up my computer GRUB would let me choose which OS to load, I have XP on one primary partition, and on a second primary partition I have logical partitions, one of which has Ubuntu. I installed Windows Server 2008 onto one of the logical partitions on my second primary partition. But after installing whenever I restart my computer GRUB is no longer there, and I can't choose to load my different OS's. There isn't an option in BIOS that helps. Every time my computer loads up server 2008. Is there a way to get GRUB back? Thanks in advance Martin

Please help I am a network administrator for some company. The network consists of a single Active Directory domain named Linkgroup.com. The domain contains Windows Server 2008 File Server named SERVER1. During a routine Security Auditing-a, I checked the security log on SERVER1 in Event Viewer. I found that the security log contains thousands of events that indicate the unsuccessful attempts logging in from different computers using the built-in Administrator account on SERVER1. Local administrator account is never used. I suspected that the unauthorized user tries to access the computer using the built-in SERVER1 administrator account. SERVER1 must protect a…

I have a 2008 machine set to use a static ip address of 156.42.75.117. The default website on this machine is set to use that ip address. We are hosting several internal sites, so I added another ip address to the nic and assigned one of the sites to the new ip address which is 156.42.75.74. All was working great until an automatic update installed and the machine restarted. Now the machine has assumed the 156.42.75.74 ip address. Any ideas why this is happening and what can I do to prevent it? thanks in advance. -will

Hi There, We have a 2008 standard server and all is well except that we can't ping the hostname. The ip address is 192.168.0.110 on ip4. If I have ipv6 enabled all i get is 4 x replies from a mac address fe80::a47d:38c: etc. if I diasble ipv6 then all i get is 4 x a replies from ::1: The preferred dns on ipv4 is set to 192.168.0.110 and the dns server is running.... We have also noted that unfortunately the server has the server domain name of "domainname.co.uk" rather than "domainname.local" It looks like it is still a nightmare to rename the domain therefore is it possible make changes to the dns settings of this server to address this...? Many thank…

Hi I maintain a windows 2008 server that is configured on a domain with about 20+ client computers. The problem I am having is that I am trying to use OpenDNS as a website blocker for all the computers on the domain, the problem however is this: Currently the IPv4 properties on the server are configured to "Detect Automatically" and the internet works on the server and the client computers but the OpenDNS doesnt block any of the websites it should. When I configure IPv4 to what it should be with the IP pointing back to the server ip 172.17.248.10, the subnet being 255.255.255.0, the gateway being 172.17.248.1, and then the dns being made to point to 172.17.248.10, the …

Hi, The server is Server 2008 Standard. I have shared a folder on the server and on most of the desktop clients it is mapped as network drive. Suppose that folder is A. A contains many other folders, one of them is B. Only some users have access to folder B, because I have removed the inherited permissions on B from parent A. And actually some user renamed B to C. My problem is I am unable to rename C through administrator account also, which is the owner. When attempt to rename it says You need permission to rename the folder, though I am having full control over the folder. Any help please. Thank you.

Hi, I have a small Lab environment to test TS Gateway as per our network environment. While testing I came across few question and I was wondering if someone can help me answer the same. 1. During setup of RAP, under Computer Group, when you select Create a new group, is there a way to edit group which you have already made. Cause if I have group for DB server and later on when we add a new server in our DB zone, it seems that we have to make a new computer group on the TS Gateway as I don’t see a option to edit a already made group and add one more server. If it’s possible then do let me know 2.Also for the New TS Gateway-Managed Computer Group under Netw…

I'm setting up a server for testing purposes. Even though its just for testing I do like to get best performance possible. I'm wondering about disk setup. I have four disk in two arrays. Atm one is configured as RAID 1 (640 GB) and the other is in RAID 0 (2 TB) Now I'm thinking of installing server 2008 on the 640 RAID 1 and use the 2 TB for media. If I want to test VM's I would install them on the RAID 1 and again use the 2 TB for storage. I could however disable the RAID 1 and use one of the disks for server 2008, the other for vm's and again the RAID 0 for storage. I'm kinda lost on what the best setup would be. I have to make a config with these disk and hav…

Hello, i have an HP Proliant DL380 G3 running server 2008. Now my question is, once every so long after the system has been running for atleast a week or so with no problems what so ever, it just freezes for no reason. the only way i know is because everything goes away and even when i go to the machine itself the screen is black and won't come on and if numberlock or whatever happens to be on you can't turn it off and i do notice the activity light on all six hard drives are on pretty solid. it seems light a hault to me except there is no blue screen error.
