Hi, I'm new to IIS servers and most servers. I have Windwows 2008 installed and am trying to set up a IIS host. I can view the webpage fine in my local network computers but my friends cannot access the web pages from outside my network. I have gotten them to try all the possible IP addresses i can come up with. I am behind two routers, a 2wire 2700HGV-B, and a linksys WRT160Nv1. The linksys hooks to the 2wire. The server computer hooks to the linksys via wireless as my computer has a ethernet adapter which server 2008 does not seem to support the drivers for. The server computer linksys IP is 192.168.1.102 (when I type this on my home network computers th…

Hey guys- I am new to most this stuff, just trying to figure it out for my work. I have a domain name being forwarded & masked to myip/ts. Users go to www.mydomain.com and it gets them to the TS Web Access login screen. HOWEVER- on the Remote Desktop tab, in the Connection Options--> Connect to: box, I have to input the IP Address of our site in order for it to allow us to login. Is there a way to setup an alias name so that the users don't have to try to remember an IP Address to log in with instead? So- I'd like them to be able to enter 'aliasname' in the Connect to: box instead of the IP Address of our site. Is this possible? Thanks for all the help!!!

Hey guys- We have a Virtual Server hosted with GoDaddy- obviously running Windows 2008 Server. I DO have TS Web Access hooked up- but- we would like for each co-worker to be able to mount a shortcut to a shared folder onto their own machines at home. The shared folder would be hosted on the Server- and the idea is they wouldn't have to login to TS Web Access each time, they could just double click the shortcut and open the folder. How do I achieve this? Thanks

But somehow it just won't work from outside the lan. It also has issues inside the lan. When I try to pen the page (http://192.168.1.8) from other computer it loads up the website. But when I press a link to other page it says it can't find that page. This link is also internal and in the same Directory. It Used to work great on the other server I was hosted on. I hope I descriped my problem as good as possible. I know you will ask a lot of questions So i also give you all the setting I did to make thin…

Hello all. I work in I.T. but I'm a noob. Been in the field about 6 months. We have a Windows Server 2000 system that has our active directory on it. It only has a 20 gb HD. We have another server brought up now with Server 2008 running on it. How can I take our AD forest from the Windows 2000 machine and import it into the brand new server and then just ditch the 2000 server and run off the new machine. Basically I just need to know how to get the active directory into the server 2008 so we can get rid of the old crappy system. Please help I need to do this for work bad as you can see its not good to serve your network on a 2000 server with hardly any HD or memory. Thank…

Hello everyone! I hope this will be the place to get an answer. I am very new to the 2008 server family and have run in to an issue while testing a terminal server. The software I am testing is very old. It works fine on 2003 Server Standard. I have 2008 Standard installed. The issue is when I try to run a preset macro within the software (Goldmine 4.0) it does nothing. The software is launched and run from a server still running NT 4.0, no poking fun now... Like I said it works fine in 2003... Thank you in advance for any help with this. -Jesse

Hey guys- I'm new to Windows Server 2008, and most this server stuff. I am trying to setup TS Web Access for my work, and believe I've got most of it working ok. The users want to be able to have some sort of easy interface, maybe via drag/drop, to where they can transfer files to the Server from their Client machine, and vice versa. They don't want to have to download/install/use FTP or any other third party program to do this. This is in case they go to an internet cafe, or use someone else's computer to access the server/files. Is this possible to do? We have a Virtual Server, using Windows 2008 Server (GoDaddy Hosted). I have configured it to be working thus f…

Hello, I'm new to Windwos Server, I have a network I will be setting up and I need to know if windows Server 2008 will do what I'm expecting and what I need to do it. The system will have 3-5 user profiles. Two -maybe three- workstations will connect via RDP from XP machines the third will run locally. If possible one connection from a VPN or from the Web may occur too. I need to know if I need some type of user license for the client PC's that run XP to connect to the server, also will the basic 5 user CAL cover the 3-5 user profiles that will be on the server. I've done this in server 2000 but this seems entierly differnt now. Additionally I plan to use the same Ser…

Hello. I have a problem with the remote printers. I have a domain with about 60 workers with XP Pro SP2. Recently i've installed a new server with Windows Server 2008 R2 and they can't "import" their local installed printers to the remote session. The printer drivers have already been installed in Windows Server 2008 R2. Can anyone give me a hint to solve this? Thank you!

Hey everyone! I'm looking into installing a copy of Server 2008 to help manage both my parent's business and my own business and to also host my Internet radio station. I was actually able to get myself a free copy of Server 2008 R2 Standard from DreamSpark, but based on my needs, I'm wondering if Standard isn't going be good enough to meet them. I talked to a few people and they suggested to get Small Business Server 2008, so I'm a bit confused since I'm not completely familiar with both versions and what they have to offer. So, I'd like to get a second opinion from some the experts here on what I should get based on my needs. (Please excuse me if I use the wrong termino…
