I just turned 71 years old and still have a lot to learn. I have 4 operating computers in the house, one with XP Pro, two with Vista and one with Windows 7 Pro. They are loaded with Microsoft Office 2003/2007 and OpenOffice.org. My goal is to learn enough about WHS to convert the XP unit (two 500 gig disks) into a server. Hi I have a pc with windows server 2008 (standard) installed. My broadband provider also provides me with a dedicated ip address. Can anyone help with how I configure the server to enable me to host a website using IIS7. I'll apologise in advance as I am very new to managing my own server but I have plenty of web development (vbscript, asp etc) experience.

I am trying to install Server 2008 R2 to try out. I have a Q9550 CPU with 4GB memory, A Gigabyte GA-EP45T mother board. It has two Segate 700GB drives set up as RAID0 array. It already has Vista Ultimate x64 installed on the first Primary partition and am trying to install the server onto the second primary partition. I did have it installed once but the file I was given had a key on it so I formated the partiton and downloaded a new file. Now the install either fails saying a file is corrupted or stops expanding the files. I even tried the original file I had again and same result. I leav the machine for say an hour on the desktop with no apps open and the screen dose not lock, but on my others servers which have server 2008, the auto lock feature works with know issues Many thanks I hope some one can help me

Hello all! here is my current network setup: Motorola SBG1000 router/modem connected to columbus.rr.com > Ethernet over Powerline adapter> Server running server2008 enterprise; 2 clients running Windows XP Pro, one running Windows 7 Pro rtm(wireless) I have The server and one of the clients running on a powerline adapter. all the other clients are wireless. First of all I have DNS, DHCP and a static ip set up on server 2008 with a forward lookup zone for the dns servers provided by my isp. hi, Been working on a rights issue for two days now, anybody ideas ? Situation: Server 2008 Created a DFS share called Department, beneath this share created a folder named TD. Beneath this folder i created 2 other folders, named tdread and tdchange. With windows policy , created a new drive mapping to the TD folder. When I go under "Software licensing" -> resolve now or go online to get genuine windows I got this message: "This pre-release version of windows has expired, to keep using windows, backup your files, and then install any released edition of windows server 2008 R2 Datacente." I am 100% sure my software is genuine. I've done a bit of research on this error. I might have problems with my system time. However, my system time is also up to date. Can anyone help me with this? Hi folks, Windows Server 2008 64 bit - guest (VM) Fedora 12 64 bit - host Virtualization software - KVM Internet Explorer I tried to download drivers on; http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=cf8IZzbU4m6GHKnW&content=download However it popup only a blank page with only ASUS logo on it. This is the first time running IE after installation completed. Is it the security setting too high to block this page. However there is nothing abnormal on browsing other sites such as yahoo, google etc. Please advise how to fix the problem. TIA B.R. satimis

Hi folks, Virtualization software - KVM host - Fedora 12 64bit guests - Windows Server 2008, Ubuntu 9.10, Debian 5.0 and Fedora 12, all 64bit The virtual machine is working. Flash drive (USB) can be attached to all guests and are visible on them except Windows Server 2008. On host ping Windows Server 2008 works without problem. I have using TS 2008 offering up applications instead of desktops, One of the applications I have installed, used get logged in but immediately are faced with the error. Content within this application coming from the website listed belwo is being blocked by Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration. file://asc I have tried adding this to internet and intranet zone as trusted but it still doesn't work, what more it does not work that way for every user who are all in the same remote access group?????

Hi all, First of all let me explain the situation: Currently I've got a server running Windows Server 2003 SBS. It is configured as a domain controller, has two NICs and has some filesharing. Nothing too complicated. NIC 1 is the NIC to the internet, NIC 2 is the NIC to the 5 (XP Pro) clients. All clients log in with their name onto the domain. They get internet access and access to the shared files through the server. The new configuration will be about the same. There will be one server with two NICs, one for internet, the other for the clients through a switch. HELP!!! this is very confusing to me...I just installed a brandnew copy of Server2008R2 and after if finished...I did some file copy from a network folder...there are approx 5000files in the folder...(old database software) ....during copy it would stop and say something like "Too many files open..." and it would ask me to "Try Again" or "Skip file" or "Cancel".....if I click on Try Again...it would continue to copy and then stop again at some other file...and ask the SAME thing again.....WHY IS IT DOING THAT? I never run into such situation like that on any other windows Server OS.....why it this one do that? and how do I stop that from popping up....??? it drives me cra…

Ever since we introduced the admin sidebar, our long term goal has been to bring a more comprehensive search to the admin interface that helps admins and moderators find exactly what they need without having to dig through many pages and settings manually. This method is so much faster than the old way, and we are excited to see if it helps you navigate the admin interface more efficiently . Finding what you’re looking for You can launch a quick search from anywhere in the admin interface with the shortcut Ctrl+/ , or on macOS, ⌘ +/ . This will bring up a window like this: You will see here that there are several different checked boxes beneath the input. These are the types of things you can search from here: Pages - Every page in the admin interface, including sub-pages not shown in the sidebar, and plugin pages Settings - Every site setting, which includes the setting description and keywords Themes - Every installed theme, whether they are enabled or disabled Components - Every installed theme component, whether they are enabled or disabled Reports - Every admin report, which includes a description of the report You can click these boxes to filter out the various types of search results. Here are some examples of each: Pages Settings Themes Components Reports You can also visit a full page version of the search by pressing Enter when results are being shown, or by clicking “Search” in the admin sidebar, which will take you to /admin/search. Enabling admin search You can turn this feature on with the experimental admin search enabled groups setting, which you can find in the Experimental config page at /admin/config/experimental: Note that when this feature is enabled, the keyboard shortcut for the admin sidebar filter is used for the search instead. In this topic, we’ll share more about these new core features, how to use them, and provide information about they compare to the theme components that inspired them. Header search The header search feature moves search from the magnifying glass in the top right corner to a more prominent input field in the site header. When more header space is needed (such as when scrolling a topic), the search will revert to the magnifying glass to save room. To turn on header search… In the admin area, go to your site settings. Header search feature vs. Advanced Header Search component Header search was inspired by the Header Search theme component, which we’ve renamed to Advanced Header Search to distinguish it from the core feature. Category icons and emoji vs. Category Icons component Category icons and emoji were inspired by the Category Icons component, which we will soon be deprecating in favor of this core feature because it supports more customization (i.e. emojis) and offers a much simpler setup experience.
