I am not an IT person but I would like to setup R2 in a small office situation. I need some suggestions on paths to learning how to setup and administer R2. To show my level of expertise can you install Exchange Server 2010 on the same box as the R2? Thank you for you help in advance.

Hi, I have installed windows server 2008 (web edition) + service pack 2 on my PC, to replace windows XP in order to be able to use IIS 7. Since then, I have a high CPU usage for almost all applications, particularly web browsers (especially with Flash apps running), Visual Studio, and Photoshop. My PC has an Athlon XP 3000+, 3 Gb RAM. It's not a recent computer but these applications mentionned above were working flawlessly under windows XP. Is there something I can do ? Thanks

Okay I don't know much about servers and licencing so here's the go. Theres 15 people/computers at work in the accoutning department. We are getting a new myob at work but it wont run on our current server so we are getting a new server. We will be putting Server 2008 Standard R2 on it and will have all 15 poeple connected to the server to use myob. We will also have 5 people that will need to remote desktop to the server to use myob outside the office from home or another site or whatever. Besides purchasing Server 2008 Standard R2 what else do we need to purchase to have the 15 people connect to it at work and those 5 connect to it from outside of work?

Hello, I am recently new to the 2008 platform and am unsure what the difference is between the share permissions. Contributor Owner Co-owner Reader We have some users setup as co-owners and some as contributors. I want these users to be able to access shares and make modifications so I am unsure which of the two I should use, co-owner or contributor. Any advice is much appreciated. Tommy

Hi guys I'm new in this forum and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem I encountered using Windows Server 2008. I have setup a VPN and that seems to be working fine since I manage to connect without any problems. Also I have created other users and gave them dial-in permissions and all of them can connect to the VPN simultaneously without any problems. Here is where the weird part starts. The first user that logs into the VPN is able to access the shared files on the server and also to access remote desktop to the serval using its internal IP {192.168.3.x} ... BUT when the second user logs in, he is unable to access the shared files and r…

First off, let me start by saying i have very limited Server experience. Recently, my company decided to get a trial copy of Server 2008 and Exchange to use with one of our software for testing before deploying it. I did a trial and error thing and got the domain up and user groups running, i familiarized myself with the server(thanks to windows server 2008: beginner's guide) and now i decided to start all over again to get a "cleaner" configuration i guess. However, my old domain is now still in use. I formatted the server but the domain name "MOLS" is now in use still? I tried entering this during dcpromo at the NetBIOS domain name screen , any idea how i can remo…

Hello, my name is Stan and I am probably a bit older than most of the IT people on the forum. I am the IT Manager for a small city in Washington State and have been involved with computers (and other electronics) most of my life. Some of you may have heard of Univac? That is not to say that I know more than any of you. IT is a constantly evolving field and I am always running to catch up and often find myself a bit behind the curve. I spend a good deal of time studying and experimenting. I am using 2008 Enterprise R2 as my desktop OS just so I can learn it top to bottom. I am running the city's virtual servers on Hyper-V server R2, and stumbling my way through the infancy…

Hi, Not too sure anybody out there can advise me on this? Objective: Ensure that the corporate user must use his valid AD user account and authorised machine to enter the corporate network. To achieve the above objective, what I can think of is to use the user authentication and machine authentication via 802.1x to validate the user and machine credential. For user authentication, I think it shall be quite straightforward. However I am not very cleared on the machine authentication configuration. Issuing certificate on the machine is definitely one of the ways to validate the machine, but I tried to avoid this method as it will be a major operation concern…

Hi Guys, I have a problem that keeps popping up: Dynamic registration or deletion of one or more DNS records associated with DNS domain 'DomainDnsZones.promedis.pvt.' failed. These records are used by other computers to locate this server as a domain controller (if the specified domain is an Active Directory domain) or as an LDAP server (if the specified domain is an application partition). Possible causes of failure include: - TCP/IP properties of the network connections of this computer contain wrong IP address(es) of the preferred and alternate DNS servers - Specified preferred and alternate DNS servers are not running - DNS server(s) primary for the record…

Hi everybody, I am a complete newbie so forgive any nonsense. I used to be under an administrator. He left the company and I've been "promoted", he he. We are using only one server with windows server 2008 standard. The server is not on the internet and is the domain controller of the company's eight computers. Until now, I used "remote desktop", simply logged on the domain with the username and the password of the domain administrator. A technician used my pc to vpn with his private computer. From then on, I get "wrong username or password", whenever I try to log on like I always did. Any ideas? Thanks
