Hi, I'm Ed. I've recently found myself responsible for server configuration of a Win2008 server (mostly from a DBA perspective). So I did a search, found this forum, and here I am. Voila. I hope to learn a lot here. Thanks! :D

a Savin 7570 printer with scanner worked well with Win2K. with Win2008, printer works fine; BUT attempts to get scanner feature set up fails. It uses SMB to validate path and subsequently transfer scanned documents to folder on server. Printer technician does not know Win 2008 server. I believe that it is additional security or new level of SMB that needs modification to be able to recognize and respond to printer attempt to validate storage folder. anyone got suggestions?

Hi! I have recently moved to the windows server 2008. My 32 bit com+ application used to have configuration file located at: system32 directory. When I had copied the config file to the system32, it was copied automatically to syswow64. I have read somewhere that an application reading system32 directory is automatically and transparently redirected to syswow64 directory. So here goes my questions: 1) Is it enough to copy the config file only to syswow64, should it also been copied to system32? 2) I think, that once when I copied the file to system32 it was copied to the syswow64 and deleted from system32, why? 3) Is it possible the situation that the con…

I have a HP Proliant running Windows 2008 Server . I have presented the FC SAN luns from two HP EVA storage arrays. I was using (bus/target/lun) details available in disk drive properties in windows to uniqly identify the luns. I have obserevd bus/target/lun id's are unique for luns from the same storage array. But i have read the trio (bus/target/lun) will be duplicate for the luns from other EVA storage. ie: two luns from differnt storage arrays can have the same (bus/target/lun) in windows Is the trio(bus/target/lun) reliable to uniqly identify the FC SAN luns from different storage arrays in windows?

Hello. I have just setup a new Windows Server 2008 Standard at the office.I have also created a new user in our domain which we have here. I want to make this user administrator of the new server in order to perform a TeamFoundation Server installation. Although I have declared that user in the administrator group it seems that I cannot do anything when I am logged in as that user because I take a message that all that I am doing is restricted by policy. I found informations about User Account Control and hidden administrator enabling but I am even more confused. Can you please help? Thank you.

Hi, we have a Windows 2008 R2 Server and a 500GB external LAN HDD. I want to run a Backup on the external HDD. So I connected the Shared Folder on that drive with "net use" and created an ".vhd" on it. This I used as Target for the Backup. The backup worked well for approximately one week. After a reboot I was able to connect the image anymore. I always get this Error: "Die Version unterstützt diese Version des Dateiformats nicht." If I copy the vhd Image to an internal drive and try to connect this, it works. Thanks and sorry for my English.

In previous versions of windows, moving a folder (with many subfolders/files) to a different path on the same drive would simply update the location of the folder in the file table and not require any action or calculation on what was actually in the folder. When I perform this on windows server 2008, it first calculates the size of everything in the folder, then performs the move and this can take quite a long time for folders with lots of content. Does anyone know if this is expected behavior and/or if there is a fix?

At the office I run MS Vista Business with the fileserver/domain server/webserver/anything else server running Windows Server 2008. The user profiles are configured (using folder redirection) so that the windows profile is hosted on the fileserver (e.g. \\server\users\jonathan). Recently I had a few issues: 1. According to the admin's logs I was told I forgot to log off from a laptop before logging on to another terminal. Afaik, previous versions of windows used to warn the users when the user tried to log on to another terminal. Is it considered safe to logon to more than one terminals, or, would it be helpful if a warning was displayed? 2. Windows profil…

What/where am I going wrong? Regards CD

Hi, For a project I need to have W2008 running for a while, preferably on a physical machine. So I'm exploring this route before going virtual. This is the setup: HP 8530w laptop 200Gb internal sata HDD 8 Gb RAM External sata HDD Windows 7 is installed on the internal HDD. I'd like to install w2008 on the external HDD. The e-sata drive is recognized in w7, and I set the boot order in the BIOS as CD/DVD-esata-internal HD. I boot from the w2008 DVD and select disk2partition1 as the destination. The install runs until first reboot. Then the error appears: /windows/system32/winload.exe is either corrupted or missing. BCDEDIT output: Windows Boot Manager ----…
