I assume it is because my hardware configuration, but I cannot install server 2008. When I boot from disc, a white tannish screen displays for about 10 to 20 secs then it says starting debug mode. The loading screen comes up then goes to a black screen and that's it. Nothing happens after that. I have an Intel P4 2.45 with 512 mb, IDE HDD.

Our print server is asking every client in the system to update their printer driver. The system is setup so the user don't have permission to install drivers manually(print management role). These drivers are instead deployed through GPO when you log on the computer. At first I thought it was because of the Universal HP driver I installed updated for one printer, but this happened to all other printers in the system as well (xerox, lexmark.etc) The issue happened a week after I installed the printer. Any suggestions on what the issue is?

Since this is my first post here (and my first real dealings with Server 2008), I apologize if this is the wrong section - it simply seemed the best place to start. Here is my dilemma. I have the following two servers on my network. 1. Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition running 32-bit. 2. Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition running 64-bit. Server 1 has a VBScript file on a network share which runs an executable for our ERP software to initiate an import job. This has worked just perfectly from every Windows XP machine on the network, as well as from our other Server 2000 and Server 2003 machines. However, now that we've added Server 2008 to the mix, the scrip…

Hi, I'm having a problem here I can't seem to find on the net. I'm installing a Windows Server 2008 Standard edition and I'm having trouble with the DNS-server for a couple of days now. I was wondering if someone could see the error on sight. As I am installing the OS on the same server Windows 2003 server is running now, yet on different HD's, I can not try and change things. I can only do this in the weekends in an empty office. Here are some screens that might be helpful, I hope it's a bit readable 'cause it's in dutch: ipconfig /all http://www.clboostkust.be/DAC/ipconfig all.jpg dcdiag /fix http://www.clboostkust.be/DAC/dcdiagfix1.jpg dc…

I recently configured a new server 2008 Std domain w/ XP clients. While in the presence of the domain 3 out of 12 XP clients always load the local profile insted of the server profile. I can't figure out why this is happening. When in the presence of the domain, I want the client computer to load the server profile not the local. I've tried turning off the firewall and deleting unused profiles on the client comp. Any thoughts?

We have two new Windows 2008 servers that have SAN drives attached for file sharing. Many users map remotely to the two shares. The servers and shares have been up and tested successfully for the past month. Yesterday I began receiving reports that one of the two server shares was inaccessible by users. I tried an also couldn't connect remotely via a mapped drive. I RDPd into the server and all seemed well with the server and the SAN including the network share folder. Didn't see any problem at all in fact, but rebooted the server and that resolved the problem. This morning the same exact thing occured on the other server's share and it also seemed fine upon logging into …

Hello everyone, I am taking over a windows 2008 server for a company that previously hired nerd herds and geek squads to do computer work for them. Currently the computers are all on a workgroup and not joined to the domain, and I would like to fix that. However there is a lot of junk in active directory users and computers, and I need to find out what I can safely delete without messing anything up. Does anyone know if there are users / groups that are required for certain things to work properly? Below is an exported list of things I am not sure about. If anyone can help me figure this out or at least direct me where to find out what is required by the server that woul…

Hi, I have the following setup: modem----->router----->Server------>local lan switch switch The server acts as a gateway between the internet and the local lan. My question is; I have another computer that i want to move from the switch.....out onto the router directly on an extra port, i also want the computer to still be able to communicate with the inner lan machines. Is this possible? thanks

We have just deployed a terminal services on our new Server 2008 server. We are using thin clients with window embedded ce 6 on then and using RDP to log into the server. I have one user whose profiles will not save. Other users don't have this problem. I have checked the users settings in active directory on or main server and they look the same as the other users. Any idea what could be causing this?

Hello, After I create a user account and set the "User must change password at next logon" option, the user encounters a message indicating they do not have enough privileges to change the password! What am I doing wrong? This only happens on occasion - no rhyme or reason that I can see. Thanks, Jon

My company just got a 2008 Server Standard Edition. I have it setup as a member server on our domain running Exchange 2007. My problem is that the Server does not stay "discoverable" on the network. I can ping it and I can reach it by it's IP or NetBIOS name. It is registered in AD, and all of the folder shares I created are accessible. The only problem is it does not show up on the network list when I try to view the computers on it from any of our other DCs or workstations. The problem with this is that I cannot add this new server to our Backup Exec 12 selection list because Backup Exec doesn't see it. On the new Server, I have Network Discovery on, file sharing on …

Hi i am trying to install some roles and features silently (with the ServerManagerCmd.exe tool) at the first i thought that if i will seperate the installation of the roles from the installation of the features there wont be a problem. but with the time i congfigured that some of the role and some of the feature required restart during the installation. this requirement make the installation fail from the begining and no roles or feature is installing in the installation command. so what i need is a list (or link to documentation about it) of all the roles and the features which required restart during the installation. (so i can seperate all their installat…
