Hi, I saw an example that change desktop experience programmatically by updating the registry. For example, changing the theme can be done by updating a registry key. Is this the standard way to change DX programmatically? If yes, where I can find a complete list of the registry keys related to DX? Thanks for your help. Thanks Leon

My name is Bob Schwarz. I have been using Windows Server operating systems for 10 years now. I am also a beta tester for server and desktop operating systems and because of that I am an early adopter when a new operating system is released. I started Server Forum to give users of Windows 2008 Server a place to share knowledge and ideas. I own Schwarz Network. It is the home of my network of sites. My sites are mostly tech sites, but, I do have a couple off topic chat forums. Thanks to all who are members here for sharing your knowledge.

Hi, What are the features available in 2008 server to store keys that we require for various SFTP, FTPS and other encryption ? We generate keys using GPG, ssh-keygen etc. and we would like to store them securely. Since our OS is 2008 server we would like to use its features to store the keys securely and retrieve them. Has anyone used these features in 2008 ? Windows technology is not involved in the generation of keys but only in storage and retrieval. Thanks, Mohan

Windows 2008 Standard SP1 64 bit I installed windows, add IIS and configure it, install MS SQL 2008. Install all updates. System works fine some days, but after restart all services are stopped. I can login into windows but nothing works at all. We have two different servers and I tried at both. System works fine during some days, I can restart it without problem. But suddenly after restart, without any reasons all services are stopped and system does not work.

Hello, I am using a windows Server 2008 standard SP1. Now I connect to the server with remote Desktop. So far no problems. When I use any kind of barcodescanner I have the following problem: Normally the scanner send a CTRL-B as a start character. On this environment in the keypress function I get the Character B at first and then the Control Character. So it is vice versa to any other kind of Windows Server. The problem does not occur when the remote desktop window it not maximized! Thanks you for your suggestions. Gregor

I pay a monthly fee for a dedicated computer with Windows 2008 server from GoDaddy. I just had them provision a 100 Gig backup but it does not work properly. Ftp will not do a mkdir xxx, it drops the connection instead. GoDaddy support says they need administrative access to the system in order to fix the problem. I have 3rd party's accounting records on that system. Is it possible to restrict someone with administrative access from that accounting directory?

Hi, I am migrating from Server 2003 with Exchange 2007 to Server 2008 with Exchange 2007. We have a Com+ Event Sink event, on 2003 it was registered in Com+ without an issue, and we used the old Exchange Explorer you can get from an older Exchange SDK. But it worked fine to link up the exchange events, until they changed to 2008. It appears it won't recognise the Com+ package when registering the event. I get a message that seems to state that it can't actually See the registered package. I've done exactly the same thing on the 2008 server that I've done before on the 2003 server, and it all goes swimmingly until the point where I need to register the compo…

Hi All I have a question on the 2008 cluster migration wizard. Just wondering if anyone has done this yet. Does it affect the current live cluster? I am planning on migrating to 2008 from 2003 and want to give the cluster a go first. Does this have any impact or implications on the current cluster. Obviously I want to use the wizard then asses how it has gone, not just switch over to 2008. Any help appreciated.

I am getting this error in the eventlog for new vista workstations that are joining a domain, I have other servers (Win 2003) in this domain which have no problem at all when logging in, but with vista its takes over 10 minutes displaying "please wait", I dod not know if this is the SBS2008 server which is the PDC or the workstations? Been trying to resolve this for days This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain IRIS due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If th…
