I have googled this problem and everytime I found websites talking about USN rollbacks for windows server 2003 but nothing for 2008. We have a server that runs Vmware ESX and as a virtual machine, we're running Windows server 2008 as a domain controller (without FSMO roles) and have Exchange 2007 installed. Everytime this server starts, the netlogon service is started paused. The company that is installing this server says that it's not a big deal and that it won't cause any issues but I wanted to double check with you guys to get a second oppinion.

I'm currently trying to get upto 50 people logged in via RDP and remote apps to use software installed on the server. This was all well and good on Win2000 but since migrating to Win2k8 there have been a lot of slowdown issues. I have 2 servers, almost identical builds, and they are both being hit very hard. SPEC: ==== SERVER 1: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66GHz 6GB RAM 64-bit Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 SERVER 2: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 6GB RAM 64-bit Windows Server 2008 Standard SP1 Normally, there are around 30 users logged in at any given time. Memory usage on both machines goes up to around 95-98% which slows down everything substa…

We run a small business (3 people) with locations in NC and FL. We have a need to access Quickbooks in both locations, our server is in NC. Since QB does not work reliably with VPN, we currently use LogMeIn to access a remote PC running a separately licensed copy of Quickbooks. Obviously this is not scalable since each user has two PCs, one in FL and one in NC that is logged into remotely. We are looking for a way to keep multiple licenses of QB on a server that multiple remote users can log into, with perhaps a remote desktop or virtualization software approach. Is terminal services a good approach for this? If not, any suggestions? I am not asking anyone to solve my…

:o I have a problem with our windows server 2008 installation. It concerns a printing problem. On the server itself are installed 2 printers ( standard TCP IP ports), one virtual PDF printer and the standard microsoft XPS document writer). What happens now, if we print out of an office application, no problem, everything works, with administrator or normal user account. When we print out of other applications or out of the command line or richt click menu or something, then we have 2 options - with administration rights, everything comes out ok, on each printer - normal user rights, the pages come out but .. all blank (also for exemple the xps or pdf file is …

Post a reply to this thread to introduce yourself to the community. For those that don't know I am Bob the owner of this site. I've been running Windows Servers for 10 years after migrating from Redhat and FreeBSD. During that time I have written articles and tutorials to share my knowledge. I opened this forum so that all of us can share what we know.

As I said in my introductory topic I run windows 2008 32 bit. Its set up as a domain controller that has users connect to Access Files (Constant modifying) which is File Sharing. Also a Printer Server/Sharing. Also controls the DNS and DCHP. Its been 5 months and server is strong. Now I need a way for users to connect outside of the domain. Like dial in and use their credentials. They need to be able to do what they normally do while at work. I will be providing software for home use.

Is there any documentation how to transfer users from a windows server 2003 to a windows server 2008 2. What are important points to keep in mind when transferring all data inclusive users from a windows server 2003 machine to a windows server 2008 machine. If you could give me links, answers or any kind of documentation regarding my question would be a great help. Thanks Greetzzz

By default, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit assigns the next available drive letter to each partition when deploying Server 2008. I want to have custom drive letters for each of my partitions. Does anyone know how to do this in the Task Sequences or anywhere else? I'm not seeing any apparent options in the Task Sequences properties tab.

Hi Experts, I have setup and installed the drivers for 'Samsung SCX-4300 Series' Printer on the windows server 2008 at work. Done Sharing it. I want to Deploy this printer automatically on any client(user) that's on the domain created on the server, when the user logs into his/her account. I created a GPO for this, and in the User Configurations, Logon section, I included the following Script file. I actually tried out two script files (one at a time ofcourse): 1) I created a .bat file and stored the following script in it CSCRIPT C:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prnmngr.vbs -ac -p \Serv2K8\Samsung SCX-4300 Series where Serv2k8 is …

I have been wrestling with a problem when trying to create a W2K8 R2 sysprepped image. The default profile modifications are not included afeter sysprepping with the copyprofile option. If there is anyone that can assist I would be forever greatful. These are the steps I have followed: - Installed W2K8 R2 onto virtual server (VMWARE) and configured OS - Logged on with local admin account and configured default profile. Made changes such as new desktop folders, desktop shortcuts, pnned taskbar items, added a quick launch toolbar, and modified the desktop background color. - Deleted the current C:\Users\Default folder and created a new empty C:\Users\Default folder -c…

I am running Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 SP2. I've been organizing and consolidating our archived data through the move command (cut and paste). I really like the new features in Server 2008 that detects same file names and prompts you whether to keep one file or the other or keep both and rename the one being moved. However, I have to run the cut and paste command many times (10+) before it moves all the data. For example, say I am moving five folders containing many subfolders and files to a directory that has the same subfolder names. I am prompted first whether to Merge the folders. I click Yes and sometimes the command continues to prompt for the next…

I have been using the Windows Servers as a desktop since NT first came out. I am a serious middleware developer and am familiar with most Microsoft applications and how to find issues. This one eludes me, when I go to www.adobe .com (Internet Zone) IE starts to load then hangs when I am a user on 2008. If I go to the site as the local builtin admin account (Internet Zone) everything works just fine. Tried using ProcessMonitor to see if anything stands out but no denied accesses are reported. Also tried running IE as an admin but that shows the same results. Any ideas ? Thanks.

Hello, i have attached a screen shot of the "Where do you want to install Windows" screen that appears when trying to install Windows Server 2008 on a fairly new PC-Intel-64-Dual-Core-4GB-Vista machine that is working fine and when i get to the screen above there are no entries at all appearing on this screen. And just to test out the installation on another machine, i took this Windows Server 2008 CD and successfully installed it on a pretty old low end AMD-64-Vista laptop with no problem and the volume/drive entries appeared fine on this screen. This newer machine does have a Raid/Mirrored drive setup, do you think this could somehow confusing the visibility to the volu…

Wondering if this scenario would make sense. 9 employees using a 5cal license, like this: Create 5 OU's containing 5 users, one user per OU. For the exec OU, one user named exec, so on and so on. Can two users share the same user name and be logged in at the same time, like this? Using the Exec OU... User Exec logs into one computer1 in her office, and then travels down the hall to another office and logs in to computer2 while maintaining the session from computer1. I don't see another way of jumping this hurdle, but i'm surely open to new thoughts to overcome the limitation of the 5cal license.
