I decided to try Windows 2008 R2 with Failover clustering and Hyper-V. On "paper" everything looks very promissing. In reality a had problems with slow disk performance. The servers i used for this are 2 IBM xSeries 3550, with 16GB of RAM memory, 2 CPU Xeon 5110 and QLogic FC adapters QLE2460 that are connected to IBM storage 4800 with 15k rpm disks. I have virtualized 2 XenApp servers with approximatelly 50 users and I have about 12 published applications on both servers in a farm. I've created Clustered Shared Volume. Live migration is working but not quite as I expected. While the VM is migrating from one node in a cluster to another there is downtime (no ping)…

This may have been answered multiple times in this forum before and if so, I apologize. I have 1 Windows 2000 x32 DC that is running on our internal network. I just installed a new Windows Server 2008 x64 server to replace the existing Windows 2000 x32 DC. I, of course, need to make the Windows Server 2008 x64 server a domain controller in order to eventually decommission the existing Windows 2000 x32 DC. When I try to prepare the forest for the Windows Server 2008 x64 DC and run the following command on the Windows 2000 x32 DC C:\sources\adprep\adprep /forest prep I get this error at the command prompt: C:\sources\adprep\adprep /forestprep ADPREP WARNING: Be…

VMWare - 64-bit guest operating system with 32-bit Windows XP installed and sysprepped with the -reseal -activated -mini options. On my WDS, I have a capture image file based off of Windows 2008, x64. On the guest OS PXE boot, WDS automatically detects x64 architecture and gives me the x64 menu options which includes the x64 capture image. When it comes to the area to pick which volume to capture, the list is blank. Shift+F10 does not show my C drive. So I am wondering if I sysprepped it incorrectly or if I just don't have the storage drivers for it? I have tried various sysprep.inf files including the buildmassstorage=yes option. Ideas? Thanks, Chase

Hey guys! I got some questions for you.. My dad wants to have a home server in our house... At first, he wanted some god-like server, which can do everything... But I talked him out of that pretty fast, because it needs A LOT of power, if you want to play games over a terminal session.. Anyways... The server should be able to hold all our data and to make it accessable... It'll also run a streaming software, so I can watch stored movies with my PS3... There we got the first problem... The PS3 can't play the *.mkv format, which means, that the server has to decode the movie and then send it to the PS3... I store all my bluray movies as *.mkv on my hdd, so more…

Hi, I'll like to ask, is it a must to have two separate servers for NAP DHCP as some examples I've seen online make use of two servers (1 as domain controller another as member server) or is it possible to have both functions done on 1 server? Thanks for your help

Hey guys I installed windows server 2008 (Enterprise edition) on my desktop and is using it as my main OS I have the 64bit version and I have a few questions. Am thinking of hosting a few game servers on it and letting the people I host them for have full access to it by running on another user account and letting them remote desktop to it. But my question is can you see what they are doing when they are remote desktoping it. Also can you limit what a user can do like stop them from using IE etc. Thanks Twin.

G'day all I have no idea on how to achieve this in windows server 2008. In linux, you can use LVM/software raid to create a volume that can be expanded to span new drives whilst retaining your data. On WHS, there is a unique storage pool system which allows you to add drives, and provides some redundancy. On windows server 2008, I don't think either exists, so my question is: what is the equivalent in windows server 2008? Basically I need to be able to add drives and expand a single logical storage area. Thanks everyone.

I was having issues with WMIPRVSE.exe consuming up to 40% of my CPU and slowing my system down. Through google I managed to determine that this was caused by The Windows System Resource Manager, and if I stop this service then my CPU usage returns to a more acceptible state. Now clearly I don't want to leave this service disabled as it is of course meant to manage my system resources, not use them all up, so I would prefer to fix the problem. I do not have SBS installed, nor any items stuck in the print spool, so that voids almost all the suggestions I found on google. Anyone got any suggestions how to resolve this ?
