Hi all Being new to the whole server stuff I'm completely puzzled by the RDP Licensing issue. Basically all I need the W2008 server to do is to run 6 or 7 Virtual machines using VMWARE server. One or more of these VM's will be available over the Internet via standard RDP ( these VM's are a mix of W7 and XP Pro systems). There won't be ANY application software on the W2008 server except for IE and possibly an email client (not a server email program) On the rare occasion where I need to access the SERVER remotely do I need any licenses -- this is a HOME SERVER where no more than 2 people would ever need to access the actual SERVER. - The VM's are different. Us…

Hello, I've been googling for a while now, but I couldn't find solution for this one... I can't make my TV card (Leadtek 2000 XP Expert) to work on Windows Server 2008...I can install drivers for it (Vista drivers) and I can install software (WinFast) but when I run it it says that it can't find any device... Is there any solution for this problem? Thanks

All, I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 running Server2008 Standard and everytime I log off while sitting at the server the screen resolution goes back to 640x480. Once I log in each time I have to change it back to my monitors default of 1400x900 and then eveything is good. Once I log off it goes back to 640x480. How do I get my screen resolution to stay at 1400x900?

We have a 2003 forest. We are going to install a 2008 RODC in our DMZ and a 2008 DC in our LAN because of an extranet SharePoint project. The only thing Im confuse about, are the RPC dynamic ports. I did they things described in the following articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154596/en-us http://www.pbbergs.com/windows/articles/FirewallReplication.html The second article stated that those registry setting should only be applied to the DCs in the DMZ. But because we use a RODC in DMZ, and it can only communicate with a writable 2008 DC in our LAN, I think I should apply these registry setting also on this 2008 DC in our LAN. But again if I do that, dont I…

Hi All, I am writing a backup application and when I try to read system junction folder "C:\Document and settings", I get an error "Access denied". This is expected behavior of the system but I need to read the directory/folder to get the meta data of the file as part of backup application. To get the meta data of the folder, I need to read the folder but MSDN (Junction Points (Windows)) specify junction point access control lists (ACLs) set to deny read access to everyone and also added --- "Applications that call out a specific path can traverse these junction points if they have the required permissions. However, attempts to enumerate the contents of the junction…

Hi, I saw an example that change desktop experience programmatically by updating the registry. For example, changing the theme can be done by updating a registry key. Is this the standard way to change DX programmatically? If yes, where I can find a complete list of the registry keys related to DX? Thanks for your help. Thanks Leon

My name is Bob Schwarz. I have been using Windows Server operating systems for 10 years now. I am also a beta tester for server and desktop operating systems and because of that I am an early adopter when a new operating system is released. I started Server Forum to give users of Windows 2008 Server a place to share knowledge and ideas. I own Schwarz Network. It is the home of my network of sites. My sites are mostly tech sites, but, I do have a couple off topic chat forums. Thanks to all who are members here for sharing your knowledge.

Hi, What are the features available in 2008 server to store keys that we require for various SFTP, FTPS and other encryption ? We generate keys using GPG, ssh-keygen etc. and we would like to store them securely. Since our OS is 2008 server we would like to use its features to store the keys securely and retrieve them. Has anyone used these features in 2008 ? Windows technology is not involved in the generation of keys but only in storage and retrieval. Thanks, Mohan
