I have just started learning to use advanced features in windows server firewall and my question may sounds silly. Basically I want to block all incoming traffics to the server except for a range of ip addresses. I can define an inbound rule to block all traffics from any IP adresses. Then I thought I can just define another rule to allow incoming traffics from a range of IP adresses but it wasn't successfull. I just realized that windows firewall overirde the allowing rules with any blocking rules. Is there a way to define an inbound rule and exempt an IP range? I have read a little bit about Authentication bypass but Ihave no idea if it's applicable or how I can use…

I installed Server 2008 on a 10gig disk, which was an error. My disk is now full, and I was wondering if I could somehow migrate my install to a new disk, or make the install drive part of a JBOD. I've tried using Computer manager but all the RAIDing options are greyed out. I have a 30gig disc installed and working in the machine. Anyhelp is gladly appreciated.

Hello Everyone, I have some systems that are based on NT 4.0 that have to remain on NT 4.0 because they have hardware that only has drivers for NT. I am in the process of attempting to add a new application server that used a solid state "hard drive" which requires drivers for 64-bit Windows. This required Server 2008 64-bit. Having setup the 64bit Server 2008 computer, I am attempting to setup ActiveX exe components that we use in our systems. If I connect to Server 2008 from a Windows XP or Windows 2000 client, I can attach to a network share and create and use DCOM components without an issue. If I connect to Server 2008 from a Windows NT (SP6a) client, …

Hi, The first screen I get when starting windows is an icon of a user, and I can click it and give the password and get in. Only thing is that the user belongs to a nonexisted domain. So is it possible to ascribe it to a valid domain? THanks ahead Eran:cool:

I get a test error when trying to create an even viewer subscription in Event Viewer. I did run WinRM quickconfig on the source computer (Win 2008 E) I did run Wecutil qc on the collector computer. When I click on Test, I get the following error "A specified logon session does not exist. It may have been terminated." Both are Windows 2008 Ent servers on the same domain. I do not get this error when using a DC as the collector computer. I also do not get challenged for the username and password when on the DC. All computers are in a virtual environment (Virtual PC 2007) with static IP addresses.

Brand new to setting up Server 08 (any server for that matter). This question might be to in depth but would love someone to work with me. I have a machine with server 08 installed with 2 network cards. I want 1 network card to be from cable modem and the other to go to a linksys router acting more like a switch (passive routing). My end goal is to use that router to allow network computers to access internet through the server (wired and wireless are connecting to linksys). That way everyone can see files and media on server and still get through net, yet server is only connected to cable modem and router. again i am brand new and this. is anyone willing t…

Although installing roles (e.g. IIS) for the first time is pretty straightforward, I could not find an option to: - uninstall roles (e.g. uninstall IIS) - install additional components within roles (e.g. components within IIS that were not selected when initially installing IIS). Windows Server 2008 Standard Can this be done from the UI? If not cmd line would be appreciated as well...

Does anyone use a web mail app and if you do what app do you use? I've been using Exchange for web mail, but, I am looking for a more compact app. My users don't need all the extra fluff that Exchange brings to the table. I'm looking for a solution so my users can log in read the email and respond when they need. Ideally this would allow me to give users email address' without giving them an account on the domain. It would need to have web based sign ups. I have some users that work on the road and don't want or need a full Windows accounts. They have requested a way to check there email without having to connect to VPN and use Outlook. I pointed them to Exchan…

Here's the scenario - 2 node 2008 SCC. Everything is working with a single NIC active on each node (mixed communication). When I plug in the second NIC (heartbeat - which is configured with a private address) on each host, I can RDP to one host but RDP to the other does not work anymore. The server is still online - services running, responding to ICMP, WMI access, etc - just can't RDP into it. I have checked and changed NIC binding orders, checked for new updates, rebooted the server, checked Windows services - nothing looks wrong and nothing seems to resolve the issue. Except unplugging the second NIC on the "affected" server - if I unplug the second NIC, I can now RDP …

Our company uses network with a Domain Controller configured on Windows Server 2008 with Active Directory and group policies implemented. All of our developers login from Domain controller on their machines and on local computers those users are member of "Standard User" group only. When we are logged in with local user on those machines we cannot manage (Add/Edit/Delete) the Virtual Directories in IIS installed on local computer. But when we login with Domain Administrator user on the same machine it gives all the options to manage Virtual Directories in IIS. We want to restrict the users to be member of "Standrad User" group only and can't include them in local Admin…
