Hi,* i just need a little help im pretty new to server 2008 ive worked with 2003 a little bit but here's the problem: Im getting about 2-5 mb copy speed from my vista/Mac to my windows 2008 server. i have everything in cat6 i have gigabit cards in all of my computers including the server and a gigabit switch next to the server so i would think i would get better copy speeds than just 2-5 mb. I also have run a speed test in my network and i can get about 400 mb to the server from any one of my computers. Ive also done these hofix patches/Updates nothing has worked :( *955302********* A reliability and performance update is available for computers that are running Wi…

OK I'm new to windows server for the most part. I have setup a 2008 server at home and have it working for the most part. I have setup up the domain and can login to it fine. I setup 2 user accounts one for me and one for my wife. Now what I would like to happen when we login to any computer in the house mainly our laptop a local user is created. And I'd like to be able to specify what rights that user will recieve. Mainly for the laptop seeing we would want to log into it locally when away from the house and still retain the same profile. How do I accomplish this? I have not been able to figure it out! thank you in advance.

I have just set up a Server 2008 domain controller and am currently setting group policies for my XP clients and they are working out well. However, for the life of me I cannot get firewall settings "pushed out" to my client PCs. I could really use some help on this. I cannot deploy my anti-virus without tweaking these settings and I don't want to go seat-to-seat. I was told to see this link: Deploying Windows Firewall Settings With Group Policy After reading the linked page, I played with this stuff for the better part of the day... It has not been a good day! I started playing around with it via the link provided but soon found out that it edits an area in the Gr…

I want to offer Windows Remote destop hosting and I want to understand a couple things. I plan on creating standard user accounts for each user. And then give them Remote desktop access. Now my questions: Is there a way to limit # of programs to let them run, or assign them a cpu/ram limit? What are the security measures if I offer these kind of hosting?

Hi, I am trying to learn AD and Server 2008 features using a VHD... I can't quite figure out how to make it so users of computers logged into the server have admin rights locally (by using group policy). I have seen tutorials on using restricted groups, but there is not a restricted group under computer configuration > windows settings > security Do I just add it or is there something I am missing?

I need to install SSLEAY32.dll on my Windows 2008 server. How do I do it? I tried to do it by copying the it from my XP system and putting it in the PATH but that did not work. It could not find the dll. I moved it to C:\Windows\System32 and ran regsvr32 filename.dll but it gave me a "failed to load" error message. I have 2 questions: 1) I know it is software from OpenSSL.org but I could not find it there. Where can I get a reliable copy that is compatable with Windows 2008 server? 2) How do I install it? Was I correct in moving it to \Windows\System32 and running regsvr32? TIA dave-

I have an older Windows server with 2003 Standard, acting as the DC, DHCP and DNS. There are roughly 30 user accounts in AD. Is there an easy way to migrate the old AD onto the new box with Server 2008 on it. Thanks.

Hi Guys I am new here and newbie in relation to IT and servers (changing my skills right now). I have a problem. Got some old PC's to help me train in getting MCITP. I had setup server 2008 no problems. Can connect to it via remote desktop using cable connection. PC's did not have Wireless cards and as my entire house is wireless I got a USB wifi card. It is connecting to network, gets IP, I can ping it and use internet but not remote desktop. It states computer not found. I had enabled remote desktop to allow all connections. I had also disabled cabled network card but that did not help. Any ideas? Cheers Lukas

I configured a 2008 server to be a DC and DNS server. All installs went well, but now that it's up and runnning it takes about 20 to 30 seconds to load a web page. Once it loads, the speed is fine. It seems like DNS is taking way too long to resolve names on the Internet. I have a SonicWall TZ 190 that is acting as the DHCP server and handing out the internal IP of the DC/DNS server to all workstations. If I manually configure the clients with the ISP's DNS servers they run fine. It has to be an issue with the DNS server. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Although I am trying to run WS08 as a workstation, regardless, there are way too many black screens. These aren't exactly errors (I believe), just ugly. What i mean is, when I boot up, the screen is black for about 15 seconds and if not for the hardware, on screen there is no indication that anything is starting up. Then, I see the loading progress bar (no logo) for about 5 seconds. Then the screen goes black again and the monitor turns off for about 10 seconds. Then the login screen shows. I login and see another black screen for about 5 seconds before seeing the desktop. Once I am in, if I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, I see a black screen before the menu shows up and if I select…

When connected to a shared folder on a Server 2008 server, the shared folder will lock or freeze up all the workstations that are logged in to that shared folder. The problem is not consistent as to when it will happen. So the question is: Should I look for a faulty workstation (nic, cable, etc.)?, Nic on the server, cable , etc.? Switch?, Workstation not associated with the server at all? Software that is running on the server? This problem has me and the main user and her staff completely puzzled. Any ideas would be appreciated. I put this in this forum, because I am not sure if it is a network issue or not? Thanks in advance.:(

Hi all. I am in the process of setting up a brand new Intel MFSYS 25 modular server system with Windows Web Server 2008 for the purpose of hosting redundant web and mail servers. The MFSYS25 has a shared LUN feature which allows me to create a RAID5 drive and allow multiple servers to access it at the same time. Which is great, because I have created individual system partitions (drive C) for the OS and a shared data partition (D drive) for web files and email to be stored. However, although all servers can see the D: drive it would seem that they can't access the same files at the same time. For example, I have several folders in there and while Server1 can read…

I have a Windows 2000 IIS5 server with around 40 apps on it. These apps vary in size and complexity but it represents about 9 years of dedicated application development time so the amount of code deployed is NOT insignificant. We have always been very please with the functionality and stabiltiy of this server but we are finally starting to hit the wall on some new development we are doing (for instance, support for Office 12 drivers). We are also pretty familiar with Windows Server 2003 IIS 6. However, if I'm going to dedicate team time to deploying, testing, and refactoring for IIS6, I am tempted to move to IIS7, go through the upgrade cycle just once, and be able to …
