Hello, I just upgraded my Windows Server 2008 w/ Hyper-V Role to a new machine, and it's freezing during the night. When I try to access it in the morning I have to reboot it every time. The equipment is all brand new: ASUS P5Q-E, 16GB ram, and 2 300GB Velociraptors RAID1. I've upgraded the Motherboard BIOS to the latest version, 2001. I've installed Windows Server 2008 SP2 RC. Still no luck. Does anyone have any idea what sort of diagnostics I can run on this bad boy to see why it's freezing like old skool days? Thanks! MichaelD

Microsoft might very well claim that Windows 7 Server Beta is designed to be deployed exclusively for testing and not production environments, but the company has an entirely different set of rules when it comes down to its own infrastructure. While letting the world test drive Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta, the software giant has already deployed the operating system, along with Internet Information Services 7.5 on the servers running Microsoft.com. The Redmond giant is referring to the process of adopting its own technology even in pre-release versions as dogfooding. And just as it was the case with previous releases of Windows Server, Microsoft.com has completed the…

we have an internal hard drive in a removeable tray as a form of backup running on win 2008 64 bit. Each day we where using a free utility to hotswap the drive which was working without any problems. but now for some reason now even with no other programs running on the server something is accessing the backup drive and we cant see it hotswap the drive. it keeps saying the drive is in use. We thought it was the backup software so temporarily have removed that and its made no difference. Has anyone else had this problem. One thing to note this only seems to happen overnight as if we reboot the server and then hotswap it works without any problems but we dont…

It seems somewhat extraordinary to me that TS doens't have an option to automatically deal with DST, and move schedules back or forward an hour as appropriate when the system clock changes due to this. Or have I missed it? cheers Steve

Greetings, Does anybody know of a driver software for Dell TrueMobile 1150 Series Mini PCI Card for Windows Server 2008? In my case it's inside a Dell Latitude C840 Laptop. I installed some XP and Vista versions, but they didn't work out... The Lan activity led flashes every once in awhile, as if it were trying to scan networks, and Device Manager shows the Ethernet Controller (3Com 3C920) and the Wireless Card, but no wireless networks can be found, so I guess it's because of the driver version. Thanks.

Hi experts, I have a strangle problem with LastInputTime from WinStationInformationW function. The problem is that it sometimes return LastInputTime with 7 min difference from its actual time. For example: last input time was at 11.10 but it returns 11.03. It usually occurs when the person logs in for the first time at the terminal server. But it can also appear during active session. I don't think that the problem is in the code, because it apperars ocassionally. Thank you in advance. Here is the code: private enum WINSTATIONINFOCLASS{ WinStationInformation = 8 } //Works only on Windows 2000/2003 [DllImport("winsta.dll")] private static extern int Win…

First off hello everyone this is my first post and I am glad to see such a nice community. I am a computer science major and have acquired a free version of windows server 2008 from my university. I am trying to setup a home network at my house and I am having some problems. Each computer in my house is setup with a static IP and DNS from OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet. I want to be able to login to my server through a domain controller and assign group policies ect. I ran through the dcpromo installation but I am unable to join the domain. Do I need to own the domain even if I am only using it through LAN? Also, would it be wise to set up DHCP role and r…

I have just started learning to use advanced features in windows server firewall and my question may sounds silly. Basically I want to block all incoming traffics to the server except for a range of ip addresses. I can define an inbound rule to block all traffics from any IP adresses. Then I thought I can just define another rule to allow incoming traffics from a range of IP adresses but it wasn't successfull. I just realized that windows firewall overirde the allowing rules with any blocking rules. Is there a way to define an inbound rule and exempt an IP range? I have read a little bit about Authentication bypass but Ihave no idea if it's applicable or how I can use…

I installed Server 2008 on a 10gig disk, which was an error. My disk is now full, and I was wondering if I could somehow migrate my install to a new disk, or make the install drive part of a JBOD. I've tried using Computer manager but all the RAIDing options are greyed out. I have a 30gig disc installed and working in the machine. Anyhelp is gladly appreciated.

Hello Everyone, I have some systems that are based on NT 4.0 that have to remain on NT 4.0 because they have hardware that only has drivers for NT. I am in the process of attempting to add a new application server that used a solid state "hard drive" which requires drivers for 64-bit Windows. This required Server 2008 64-bit. Having setup the 64bit Server 2008 computer, I am attempting to setup ActiveX exe components that we use in our systems. If I connect to Server 2008 from a Windows XP or Windows 2000 client, I can attach to a network share and create and use DCOM components without an issue. If I connect to Server 2008 from a Windows NT (SP6a) client, …

After the install it keeps on nagging about activation. Activation fails every time. This is a genuine Windows Server with MSDN licensing. How do I bring up the activation window? I can't find it any where? furthermore how can I activate the server, (specific steps, please) Thanks, _admin_

Hi, The first screen I get when starting windows is an icon of a user, and I can click it and give the password and get in. Only thing is that the user belongs to a nonexisted domain. So is it possible to ascribe it to a valid domain? THanks ahead Eran:cool:

I get a test error when trying to create an even viewer subscription in Event Viewer. I did run WinRM quickconfig on the source computer (Win 2008 E) I did run Wecutil qc on the collector computer. When I click on Test, I get the following error "A specified logon session does not exist. It may have been terminated." Both are Windows 2008 Ent servers on the same domain. I do not get this error when using a DC as the collector computer. I also do not get challenged for the username and password when on the DC. All computers are in a virtual environment (Virtual PC 2007) with static IP addresses.
