Hello. Could you please help me with next problem: I have freshly installed Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP build 6001. Service RRAS is started, configured and works properly. Server has 2 network cards (named LAN and WAN): LAN is interface for internal network, IP 10.0.0.1, no gateway set. WAN is interface for external network, IP 192.168.112.45, gateway 192.168.112.4 Server is NAT from internal to external. And it works fine. With RRAS I creates a PPPoE-connection thru WAN interface, servers gets additional IP IP 81.200.116.70. Gateway is nothing until no static route is set via dialog in RRAS console: address 0.0.0.0, mask 0.0.0.0, interface Dial-In Interfa…

Hallo, I am new to Windows Server 2008 and I have a problem regarding folder/file or sharing permissions (x64). In the morning when the users log in they can view and open the folders/files in D:\User\Cad\ within the windows file explorer (WinXP Clients) but not when running an old CAD program (16 bit?) windows application using its own file browser - only files created by the user are visible to himself. The weird thing is when I change some permission setting for the folder D:\User\Cad and reset the changes afterwards the users are able to see all the files with the CAD programs file browser until the next morning. My shared folder "user" on drive "D" (D:…

Hi, I am a newbie in Windows Server 2008. GUI interface are entirely different from Win2K3. Do you have a guide in setting up a Two Node cluster for Windows Server 2008? It seems that this OS is entirely different from Windows Server 2003. I will be installing the first Windows Server 2008 cluster of SQL 2008 for our testing environment. What's the use of the Role of Hyper-V in setting up the cluster? How do I add this role since I can't find it in the list Roles? Can I proceed in creating the cluster without the Hyper-V role? Your help is greatly appreciated.

HI, I have a task that is required to repeat every 7 minutes for 100 minutes. I have set the obvious things, but when it runs it just carries on past the 100 minutes, forever (or until I disable the task.) It seems odd to me that there are two places within the Task Scheduler settings dialogs where this limit can be set: a) Within the "Advanced settings" of "Edit trigger" within the "Triggers" tab there is: "Stop task if it runs longer than..." option, and, b) Within the "Settings" tab itself there is another "Stop task if it runs longer than..." option... I wonder what happens if one sets conflicting values? Anyway, I haven't - I have set 100 minutes in e…

I have an old ASP COM+ component which works on all version of Windows platforms. But in WS2008 it encountered the error - "ASP 0177: 80004002". All permission settings are in WS2008 (in different places) similar to WS2003. I duplicated all the WS2003 settings (works in WS2003) but cannot get it to work in WS2008. Anyone has suggestions how to get by the COM+ WS2008 security. Looks like a security problem. Thanks, Fk

I want to schedule a task that opens a webpage on the local server. I know the path is correct, adn that the site is functioning. I can type: "C:\program files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" (path to local webpage) in to the "Start/Run..." dialog and this launches the webpage in IE. Fine. But when I set my task, nothing happens at the allotted time - even if I try the "Run on demand" option, nada. I get an 0x41306 (or 1) "Last run result" show. Makes me wonder if there a setting somewhere wihtin IE perhaps that prevents it from being launched via a schedule? If so, or if anyone has a better idea, I'd be most grateful to know what it is... Many thanks... (n…

Hey! I've got an issue with my Server 2008. I run it on Virtual PC with 1 shared networking and 1 with local only. I have a DNS server on it so I've made it locally. Now, I installed an XP operating system to an other VPC and I want to connect it to the Server, but it can't even ping it . I believe I set up the IPs right, so I don't know what is the real problem. Anyone got ideas? Thanks, Baln P.S: I just started to learn about the server so I think it will be easy for you, but it is improtant to me. sorry for my bad English I'm from Hungary:P

Hi, I am having an issue with Terminal Services on Windows Server 2008. I have a Linux server that is a database for my company. The application that we use to access the database is shared through a Samba share. I have no issues accessing this executable on the server itself but when I RDP into the server with a client, the client cannot access this database program. If I create a shorcut using the DNS name as reference the shortcut is broken and cannot find the file. If I create a shortcut using the IP address I can run the program but cannot login to it as it cannot locate it's user direcory. As I said before though I have no issues accessing or even logging into th…

I cant figure out how to lower these settings. When I go into IE settings it wont let me change it on the user acounts and I cant find anywhere on the admin to change it for the users. Also after about 5 mins of idle time on the clients it kicks the remoteapp out and requires admin password. How do I stop it from doing this?

I hope this is the right section to post this.. I saw some similar issues here.. So, I have everything working on my WS2008 box, it is running DHCP and DNS for my network. But I still have a networking issue with Hyper-V. I have tried multiple virtual PCs: XP, Vista, Linux.. but none will see my NIC. I select my only NIC when initially setting up the virtual system so it should be usable. I also checked that it was enabled in the settings of the virtual PC. My server created LAN 3 connection in network connections and when looking at IPCONFIG I can see that LAN 3 and my Local Area Connection both get good IP addresses and are on the same subnet. Also, in my servers …

I guess my next choice is to call MS, but that is such a crapshoot. ;-) So here goes.. Hello All! I have a customer with an odd issue that took us a bit to catch. It is easily solved by rebooting the TS farm twice a week (99% of the time this works). Brand new Windows 2008 farm. In the month or so of testing, they didn't like the Session Broker stuff, so they went with 2X (great software.. and WAY cheaper than Citrix). Out of nowhere, we started noticing the farm would lock up. They would reboot the servers and everything would be fine. Everyone initially assumed 2X, but we were actually at their Company Holiday party and I had to tether my phone to my laptop to get…
