Hi all, Fresh install of Windows 2008 Standard. AMD 5200 CPU SATA HD 2Gig Ram Gigabit Nic into a Gigabit switch Running DNS, DHCP & AD I am copying directories of 17-20Gig of files into new empty directories on the server from a Windows XP Pro notebook with a gigabit NIC. Tried these methods: UNC path & mapped drive with the same results The files are transfering at less than 1MB/s! I also get the "File Already Exists" dialog box for many of the files. This is impossible seeing as I'm copying into an empty directory. I remoted into the server from this notebook and copied the files using Windows 2008 Explorer and they transfered at an average…

Hello. I've got a weird routing problem that has me baffled. Any help would be appreciated. I've got 2 networks, A and B. Network A has a Windows Server 2008 machine P, and Network B has a Windows Server 2003 machine C. The two servers are setup to have a persistent Remote Access connection between them (using PPTP.) The VPN's connect fine, and almost everything works. Machine on Network A (including server P) can talk to any machines on network B. Any machine on network B, except for the server C, can talk to any machine on network A. But for some reason server C cannot talk to any machines on the remote network (including the remote VPN server). I can clear …

Hello all.. Im very new to server stuff, and having a few issues trying to get my drivers installed... I installed enterprise edition x64 and have two issues. (1) My Asus MB DVD will not auto run the installer, it acts like it tries to run but nothing ever comes up. I can also browse the DVD, run (as administrator) the auto run or setup files but again, nothing comes up. The only way I could get the unknown devices installed was to manually update each driver in device manager. Although all the unknown devices are gone now, Im worried that I may be missing something MB/chipset related that I cannot install since the setup is not working (the server is running slow a…

I have Windows Server 2008 Routing and Remote Access set up as a NAT server. Clients drop occasional packets, and the server gives Destination Host Unreachable when I ping. I believe I have narrowed this problem down to the routing tables. It seems as though some old configurations are stuck in the Persistent Routes, and causing packet loss. I have restarted the server, but the persistent routes are still listed. My network is configured like this: Public IP T1 10.8.1.1 | 10.8.1.2 Adtran TA600 Router 172.16.1.254 | 172.16.1.1 Windows Server 2008 192.168.1.2 | 192.168.1.x Clients This is what happens when I ping from the server: ping google.com -n …

A new file server was installed with windows server 2008 standard with Office 2007. The old file server used to be server 2003 with Office 2003. All office files were moved to the new server. Its a Windows server 2008 standard SP1 with Office 2007 SP1. clients logon via Terminal Services. It happens a lot that the server freezes/hangs when different files are opened e.g. with Office 2007 of Irfanview or another program. First I thought Office was the problem but it also happens when .jpg files are opened. I spend many days troubleshooting this issue but I can't find the source of this problem. So I hope anybody has a smart suggestion!!!

I'm running a new install of Server 2008 and setting up a completely new domain. When it asks for FQDN, I'm putting in mail.company.com since that is what we have in our current SBS2003 server. (before we had company.local and were getting rejected by some ISPs) At the beginning of the wizard, I thought I remember it asking my to name the domain, which I typed company.local However, at the end of the wizard, it sums up everything and says: "The new domain name is mail.company.com. This is also the name of the new forest" "The NetBIOS name of the domain is MAIL" We want our domain name to be company.local, any idea why it defaults the name to the FQD…

Hi, I have 2 DCs that are running Windows 2000 Server. Both have Windows Server SP4 and one has Exchange 2000 SP3 running on it. The one that has Exchange holds the schema FSMO role. I added a 3rd server to the domain running Windows Server 2008 as a member server and I wanted to make it a DC, so I tried running adprep/forestprep command on the server that is running Exchange and received this error: Adprep was unable to extend the schema. [status/Consequence] There is a schema conflict with Exchange 2000. The schema is not upgraded. [user Action] The schema conflict must be resolved before running adprep. Resolve the schema conflict, allow the change to replic…
