I am currently in the process of setting up two identical 2008 terminal servers in our corporate network. One will be the primary server where up to 60 users (currently 20) will use Wyse S10 thin clients to be provided with a remote desktop experience. The other server is simply a mirrored backup in case of primary server failure. I have set up failover clustering, DFS replication, and Terminal services on both machines. I have installed an identical set of application for users to use as well. Both machines are IBM system x3650 with 32gb ram and 6 1TB drives (configured as 1 raid 0 1tb system drive and 1 raid 5 4tb storage drive). I plan to publish a few apps w…

I would like to install my system (Windows 2008 Server) on a FIbre Channel volume. I have 4 FibreChannel adapters (2x Qlogic 2340, 2x Qlogic 2310) with which I have been doing the tests. Now, there's no problem installing the system on an FC volume with 512 byte blocksize, but when I set up a 4 kB volume, the volume shows up in the installer and it's possible to create a partition, but it's not possible to format the volume with NTFS (the system freezes at that exact moment). The configuration is exactly the same as when trying the 512 byte blocksize. Anybody had the same problem? It doesn't seem to be connected to FC itself.. Any tips? Thanks in advance!

I installed/configured Core Server 2008 for print services I am managing it via Print Manager from Vista. I have tried exporting/importing printers from a file as well as adding a driver (any driver) individually from the Add Driver wizard - all fail. The errors I am receiving are: "Unable to install [driver name] This Operation is not supported." Then: "Failed to add driver. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000578)." I can add a TCP/IP printer port manually, just no printer drivers. I am logged in with a user account that has domain admin privileges and UAC is disabled I was able to install a print driver to the Windows 2008 Core print server on …

Hi, I have the following setup; ESX 3.5 update 3. VM Image Win2k8 Core server setup as AD, DNS, DHCP VM Image Win2k8 Full server setup with Exchange 2007 and Remote Management. Active Directory is set up and looks OK, as does DNS. I can contact both servers from my laptop by address and name. I have set up DHCP ipv4 as I have done for many other versions of Windows. The scope is active, the server has been authorised in AD. When I try to get an address, it thinks for about a minute and then tells me that there are no DHCP servers. The event log does not show much. I disabled the firewall on both machines, but still had to add a rule to enable the remote v…

Hi I have a question about creating a bootable DVD for the Windows 2008 operating system. In the past I have been using the NERO software to make bootable Windows CDs for other operating systems. I downloaded the Trial version of the Windows 2008 64 bit version which is about 2.5 GB. The issue that I have is that when I try to make a bootable DVD in Nero, it complains that one of the files is over 2 GB and will not allow a bootable ISO to be created. I am able to burn the DVD with the UDF file system, however, this is not bootable. I can not upgrade from an existing 32 bit operating system with the 64 bit Windows 2008. Can someone assist with the steps to c…

Hi everyone, I'm trying to do a clean install of a Windows 2008 Server Standard but I'm having a problem that I have not found on the net yet, so I'll try to explain here. I cannot drop any screenshots since I'm installing the new server on 3 HD's Raid5 in the same case as the one running a Win2003 server now. So I won't be able to try some manoeuvers too. Problem: The installation worked (RAID5), installed NIC driver and being able to connect to internet without problems. I installed the AD function and was trying to install the DNS server with dcpromo.exe. With our without 'the Advanced settings option', I can: - create new domain in new forest - type…

Neighbor Discovery in IPv6 is the replacement for ARP, router discovery, and the redirect function in IP version 4. IPv6 nodes use a neighbor cache to store the MAC addresses of recently resolved IPv6 addresses, rather than an ARP cache. You can view neighbor cache in windows 2008,vista and win 7 with following command : netsh interface ipv4 show neighbors. http://yaghoob.spaces.live.com/

Hi all, I have installed WS08 on my laptop, and now trying to tweak it. The first issue I had was that I didn't have wifi as default. I solved that through server manager. The next thing I wanted was to have Aero. I added the feature, but after the reboot I can not start the Themes service. It's greyed out as if I am not an admin on the machine. I am in our domain admins group, and I have added that, as well as my specific domain/user to the admins group. Have also added to the power users group. But no change. I didn't try to log as local admin ( I am sure this will be ok, but why is it that I can't start the service?) Thanks
