Hello everyone, I'm using rras in windows server 2008 for routing internet traffic in the internal network. i have some port filters on internal\outbound traffic to prevent people to download from p2p clients. i used only well known ports. I have to grant also the FTP connectivity, and it's difficult from behind these filters. I allowed traffic on ports 20 and 21, but I cannot surf ftp sites from behind the rras service. i know there's a problem with FTP PASV mode, but I can't still access FTP servers in active mode!!!! help!!!

Alright, so I have a bunch of issues to bring up and while I search around forums, if anyone can point me in the right direction for some of these things, that'd be great. We're planning a Server 08 install, running Exchange 2007. This will be a single domain controller as well as our single e-mail server. Domain Name We have a domain registered, let's call it company.com with a 3rd party company. My plan was to point the records to the public IP address of our server. Will it matter if the Domain name of the server is company.com as well? During a SBS 2003 Server install, when we tried naming the domain company.com, it wouldn't allow us, so we ended up naming i…

I'm having an issue with a Windows 2008 Std (x86 install) server that I recently put in place of an aging Windows 2000 file server. After I renamed the original server to a new name and changed the IP. I then renamed the new 2008 server to the name of the old server and gave it the old IP. After rebooting I try to logon as a domain account and it stays forever at "Please wait for the user profile service". I can logon as the local admin without an issue. Also the shares are completely accessible to domain users and my Backup Exec server has no problem connecting to it? Any thoughts on what is going wrong. Thank you in advance, Sean

Im using both Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. In Windows Server 2003 ephemeral ports set by the admin can be easily identify by using the the Registry values. In Windows Server 2003 , Epemeral lower range is 1024 and it cannot be changed by the administrator. But in Windows Server 2008 the Ephemeral range , both the lower end and the higher end can be changed by the administrator(e.g.netsh int ipv4 set dynamicport tcp start=10000 num=1000). Here i'm not talking about the default port range for the windows server 2008. So My application need to identify the ehemeral port range defined by the administrator in WS2008. We have 2 seperate Domains with a forest level trust. On one Domain we have 3 Server 2003 R2 DC's. On the other Domain we have 1 Server 2008 DC. The trust works just fine as I can browse each Domain from the other, however I need to add user access to the shares on each Domain... I upgraded the 2003 R2 AD Schema to the 2008 AD Schema using adprep /forestprep, so that all the AD's have the same Schema. When I try to add a user to a share, I am able to change the Location to the other Domain, but my problem is that I cannot add a user to any shares from one Domain to the other Domain and vice-versa. Any advice would be appreciated.

I've recently introduced a new section to download files from my server. The problem I'm having is that whenever I try to visit a website on my server while someone is downloading something, the page keeps loading and don't show up. I've no idea what's causing this. Could you please tell me how to fix it? Here are some more info: When someone download from my server at 200-300 KB/s, no one else can browse the website. I've got 10 mbps, that's like 1.25 MB/s, so 300 KB/s shouldn't be a problem. Whenever the person who is downloading stops downloading, the site starts to work again. Can anyone help me with this? Please...

I download the trial version from Microsoft and burnt it on to a DVD. I put it inside the DVD drive and reboot the computer. According to Microsoft website, this should last 60 days and prolongation too is possible. It recognized and started installing very well. In the middle of the installation process, it prompted me to write a password. I wrote a password and it was accepted. Afterwards, I am forced to write the password again. It does not accept it. It says the password is incorrect. I reformatted the hard drive and try again twice. The same old problem arises. What shall I do?

I have 2 Windows 2008 Web Servers setup to load balance with each other. I would like to synchronize the websites on the 2 servers, preferably in realtime. Files need to be sent either way as users have the ability to upload files so there is no guarantee which server they will end up on. Not sure of the best way to do this ? 3rd party software ? XCopy / RoboCopy ? Anyone else had to do something similiar ?

Hi all. I've been testing Network Load Balancing on my new installations of Windows Web Server 2008 and can only seem to get it to work properly when the Windows firewall is off. I've checked that the exceptions are enabled, and they are, but still I get 'Host unreachable" in the NLB Manager when it tries to connect to the other server in the cluster. When the firewall is off it connects. I can still access both servers from outside using the cluster IP so it must be working, but I don't know if I need to add additional exceptions for the heartbeats or something. Any ideas welcome. Many thanks, Dave

Hello. Is there any way I can disable mmc.exe at startup? All it does is crash. I've found that when I run mmc.exe, the snap-in that crashes mmc is Server Manager. Hello Everyone, I'm looking for a simple check list for the instalation, and deployment of Server 2008. I do know that a check list would depend on the exact usage for the server. I'm just looking for starting point. I haven't had any exposure to A server environment for about 4 yrs. And ten, only with Server 2003. T

I've built a Domain Admin User acct in my W2K8 DC (DAUser) for the purpose of installing software other than using the Domain Administrator or local administrator accts. When I use this acct to log onto a different W2K8 server (who is a member of the domain), this server does not see this acct as a DA or even an administrator acct. I've ensured the DA group is in the local administrators group. (I've even tried adding the acct DAUser directly into the local administrators group too)
