I have setup a new Windows 2008 Server. I installed IIS7 on this box. What I find is that only port 80 is open, at least that's all I know about. I attempted to open port 9100 using: netsh firewall add portopening TCP 9100 VNC When I run: netsh firewall show state It shows that the port is open. But when I run a port scan utility I have on another machine it does not find that port 9100 is open. What steps do I take to get port 9100 open?

I am completely new to Server 2008 (and this sort of thing in general), and I'm having some trouble. I'm trying to set up a share that is available to everyone on the network (wired or wireless) without forcing them to sign in (so guests will have access to it without resorting to a guest account. Security issues aside (nothing of real value will be stored here), is there an easy way to set this up? Alternatively, if this would allow malicious people a relatively easy backdoor into the rest of the system, how can I set up a general-use account for everyone to see the share? Thanks for the help.

Hello I have a huge problem with my new windows server 2008. My Server is invisible to all other network clients, but can connect to all clients and to the internet. I tried to Ping, connect with rdp, connect to smb...nothing works. There is a small icon on the taskbar that says "connectionstate: unknown" if i open it, there is a wizard that tells me that there was no network found. (i don't now if that has something toto with my problem, but maybe) the other zstrange thing is that i am unable to start firewall, it tells me that a dependent service called BFE is not startet. if i try to start this BFE service, there is an error: Error 5, Access Denied. i have…

My Server just work some hours per day, so I want to configure that the server go to after 1 hour to standby and after 3 hours to the hibernate Mode. If there are request on network the server should wake up. I tried to configure all with the "power options" and the command line tool "powercfg". Set the network card as "DEVICEENABLEWAKE". If the Server goes to the standby he starts him self directly and if the Server goes to hibernate mode you can wake him up on network. Does anyone know how to solve my problem?

I got Windows Server 2008 for free through my college and is registered in my name. All is legal. But...I copied the installation onto my DVD (because I had to download the ISO from MSDN Academic Alliance) and now my new Dell PowerEdge T100 will not recognize the CD. This Dell is fresh out of the box with nothing on it (no OS.) Anybody got any suggestions on how I can get my Windows Server 2008 installed?

I am working on a web interface to let users manage their own quotas. Everyting seems to work ok, except for user impersonations. Ather executables, like notepad, run just fine with my code, which is the C# version of *Runas...". But for dirquota I always get "The requested operation requires elevation". Here is my code... String DirQuota = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["DirQuotaPath"]; String sArgument1 = " template list /remote:\"" + _servername + "\""; System.Security.SecureString password = new System.Security.SecureString(); foreach (char c in sPassword) { password.AppendChar©; } ProcessStartInfo startInfo = new ProcessStartInfo(DirQuota, sArgument1);…

I up-graded my 2003 server and the OS to Server 2008 and need to move my users and groups to the new machine. Also, is there a way to see when a user last logged in to the network so I can delete the in-active users. Thanks in advance for any assistance..

My company is a Microsoft partner, and I've recently deployed our 2 Windows Server 2008 MAPS licenses on two new machines I've built. The new OS seems to rock like crazy, and I'm interested in Windows Vista "Workstation" (a la a pared down version of Server 2008). I want it to do very little actual "server" tasks, preferring rather to have simply a nice, stable, fast OS for my laptop to run Visual Studio, SQL Server and some other apps we have in house. XP is alright, but I'd like to get up into the Vista kernel, but don't like the actual versions of Vista that are available. Windows Server 2008 Standard costs too much for my company to justify the expense. Windows …

Hey all, I have upgraded my domain from 2000 to 2008. Everything went well except out XP clients are starting to spew userenv 1030, 1058 errors. Vista clients don't seem to have this problem. I have combed the net and tried MANY different fixes. None have worked so far. The error points to "the system cannot find the path specified". What is very interesting is that when I browse to either \\DC\Sysvol or \\domain\Sysvol nothing shows up, but only in the xp clients. everything is there in the vista clients. Any hints?? Thanks, Dylan

Hello, Our idea here is to migrate NetWare network to windows. We want to setup SBS 2008 on new server that we purchased. I have installed SBS 2008 Standard on HP 350 ML G5. We want to setup this server as Domain Controller. I'm following the steps from Demo that is available on microsoft website. Installation was successful without any errors. Server was not connected to the network during the installation. I connected server to network after installation. Currently this Server is connected to the small switch and switch to network. My problem is when I'm trying to run option "Connect to the Internet" from the SBS Console. I'm getting screen that is attac…

Hello, experts! On my machine I have installed Windows Server 2008 DataCenter Without Hyper-V SP1 with TS Session Broker role. On two other machines installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise SP2 with Terminal Server role. All configured on combined action without using of the NLB. The request to WMI-class Win32_SessionDirectorySession returns the error "Provider is not capable of the attempted operation" 0x80041024. Although requests to other classes to obtain data from the TS Session Broker, such as Win32_SessionDirectoryCluster and Win32_SessionDirectoryServer, returns data. How can I get data from the request to Win32_SessionDirectorySession? Thank in advance for…
