In Windows Server 2008, is there a built in proxy server in which you can run RAS through? Or can RAS be configured to act as a type of proxy server that will log outbound connections? If so, HOW? Thanks!

I need to know if Windows Server 2008 provides the following features: -Logging inbound traffic from the remote server (I know Win2003 only did outbound) -Does it log outbound RAS connections? -If so, what information is logged? Source/destination IP and URL? Date and time? -Does server 2008 make a link between the source address to the outbound address? Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

We currently have a workgroup setup with a Windows 2003 server running SQL. We are moving to Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 and would like to make that the primary Domain Controller. Can I then make the Windows 2003 (SQL) Server a DC as well? I read something about it would erase all local accounts if I did this - any truth to that? Would we need to do anything with the existing databases prior to making it a DC in the 2008 forest? Thanks for any advice

Hi all I have to migrate my existing infrastructure Win 2K/exchange 2K to Win2008 and Exchange 2007. My previous Antivirus has expired (Trend server protect and scanmail) Scanmail exists for exchange 2007 but there is no version for TREND windows 2008 file server. So i'm looking for a really good antivirus for my new files servers and may be for exchange 2007 in a "pack" ! Any ideas ? Eric

This post relates to Remote Desktop Connection, not Terminal Services. If I'm posting in the wrong place, please forgive and point me to a better location. We're a small software shop who has started upgrading dev servers to Win2008. When our people try to connect remotely via a VPN, we get the error message, "Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end. Please try connecting to the remote computer again". We're guessing there's some setting on Windows 2008 itself or on routers that needs to set, but we can't seem to find it. We're stumped.. Additional facts on the problem are below. Any help 'preciated. Thanks in advance. -Billy …

I use Windows Server 2008 as a Terminal Server and I can connect to it fine via Thin Client. The Issue is when I connect an External USB Device, like USB Stick it is mapped under computer the "Hard Disk2" folder is seen but when I try to open the folder I get "\\tsclient\files\Hard Disk2 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The file exists.". How can I fix this issue? ------------------------------------------------- Not much help here! I found out myself that the issue is that Server 2008 requires RDP 6.0 in order to get this to work!

Hello everyone, I'm using rras in windows server 2008 for routing internet traffic in the internal network. i have some port filters on internal\outbound traffic to prevent people to download from p2p clients. i used only well known ports. I have to grant also the FTP connectivity, and it's difficult from behind these filters. I allowed traffic on ports 20 and 21, but I cannot surf ftp sites from behind the rras service. i know there's a problem with FTP PASV mode, but I can't still access FTP servers in active mode!!!! help!!!

Alright, so I have a bunch of issues to bring up and while I search around forums, if anyone can point me in the right direction for some of these things, that'd be great. We're planning a Server 08 install, running Exchange 2007. This will be a single domain controller as well as our single e-mail server. Domain Name We have a domain registered, let's call it company.com with a 3rd party company. My plan was to point the records to the public IP address of our server. Will it matter if the Domain name of the server is company.com as well? During a SBS 2003 Server install, when we tried naming the domain company.com, it wouldn't allow us, so we ended up naming i…

I'm having an issue with a Windows 2008 Std (x86 install) server that I recently put in place of an aging Windows 2000 file server. After I renamed the original server to a new name and changed the IP. I then renamed the new 2008 server to the name of the old server and gave it the old IP. After rebooting I try to logon as a domain account and it stays forever at "Please wait for the user profile service". I can logon as the local admin without an issue. Also the shares are completely accessible to domain users and my Backup Exec server has no problem connecting to it? Any thoughts on what is going wrong. Thank you in advance, Sean

Im using both Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. In Windows Server 2003 ephemeral ports set by the admin can be easily identify by using the the Registry values. In Windows Server 2003 , Epemeral lower range is 1024 and it cannot be changed by the administrator. But in Windows Server 2008 the Ephemeral range , both the lower end and the higher end can be changed by the administrator(e.g.netsh int ipv4 set dynamicport tcp start=10000 num=1000). Here i'm not talking about the default port range for the windows server 2008. So My application need to identify the ehemeral port range defined by the administrator in WS2008. So What are the relevent Registry keys to …
