i have successfully created a domain called :: FMCR :: Console Repairs :: using co.nr but now i wanted it to be www.fmcr.co.uk so i made fmcr.co.uk with windows server 2008 using dcpromo. i am new to server 2008 (or any version of windows server tbh) i tried browsing to fmcr.co.uk (i know its not in use as you can buy it from any hosting website) and its still not in use... how can i host it to the internet using windows server? also how can i add my html files to it? and how do i create an email address for it? This is a new server setup (factory loaded from Dell) with no existing domains. When running 'dcpromo' I receive the following error: 'The new domain cannot be created because the local Administrator account password does not meet requirements.' I have tried multiple passwords using 6 or more Upper case, Lower case, & Special characters. Any ideas? ..................................... The problem was resolved by re-installing the the OS and making sure that I used a strong Administrator password during the initial setup.

Hello, We have an NT4.0 domain and were going to migrate to 2003 AD and Exchange2003 mixed mode. Management would like to know what we need to do to upgrade to 2008 AD and Exchange2007. Concerns: We have a third of all computers still running Window9598 We have 3 Production applications that require share/NTFS permissions to access (the Apps only run on WindowsNT). Questions: 1) Can NT still exist in an 2008AD/2007Exchng infrastructure? 2) Can 2008 user accounts connect to WindowsNT server shares in this structure? 3) What alternatives could I use to allow connectivity from 2008AD to WindowsNT server shares?

Good Day All I just got 2 new servers "hp proliant ml150 g5" with windows 2008 server. I am not sure what roles to set up the server's with and hence need advice. At out place we have about 25 Users (7 desktops with Xp and 18 Lap tops (3 with Vista business and the rest with Xp). We only have a pop3 mail servers which resides at another company that provides us with the pop3 mail accounts. ( My internet provider does not supply us with a SMTP gate way as this is a extra cost) But we use the same pop3 address for our smtp which works fine. I would love some help if anyone can. We have a 2003 sbs server r2 running ISA server 2004 sp3. It is set up ad our domain controller, dns, dhcp, wins, exchange, and IIS 6.0. I added a 2008 standard server as a backup domain controller using adprep as per Microsoft's instructions. Everything is working well except there seems to be a communication error between the new server and the old one and clients. It processes client info and all the usual domain stuff ok, but I am getting errors running remote desktop to the 2008 server that the user name or password is wrong. I install IIS 7, I have an FTP site running and under the Default FTP site I added a virtual directory. But I get a permissions error when I try to connect to ftp://Server.net/Test When I have the default web site selected the name and path of my virtual directory are in the right list pane. But when I select the "Test" virtual directory nothing shows up. I would think it would show the text doc I put in there for testing. If I right click and select explore I see my sub directory and my text doc, if I select browse I get the 550 error - Access denied. Thanks, Phil

I just setup a new server running Standard Server 2008. Everything seems to be running without errors, but I have installed SharePoint 3.0 with service pack and IPSwitch IMail. Both SharePoint and IMail come up with a blank page on both the Configuration pages and the user / client pages? Any clues?

In my environment, users log on and our home grown app automatically runs from a folder on the D drive (partition). Users do not have access to anything in their profile, except that app. (no desktop, apps, etc.) I noticed that the profiles are anywhere from 4-9 MB, this seems a little large, especially when 60-80 users log on. What's are some things I can do to keep these profiles to a minimum, or even possibly delete them after they log off?

One should NOT have to add any print drivers to 2008 Terminal Server in order for any printer to show up for a user's Terminal Session? (Speaking of TS Easy Print) I run an x64 Terminal Server 2008, and have a user that connects and does not see his HP Color Laserjet 3800n. This user is running Windows XP sp3. I installed the printer on my Vista sp1 machine, logged in as the user, and the printer maps (redirects) as it should. Does anyone know what the deal is here?

I have changes things around a bit to get ready for the software upgrade next weekend. The resource directory is now moved to the forum and the old directory has been removed. There are other changes that went on behind the scenes. This is to make the upgrade as easy as possible.

I was looking to run a machine with Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition as a web server. Is there anything you can tell me I need to know if I colocated a server? i.e.-Is the Windows Advanced firewall good enough or would I need an external firewall to be secure? Any information would be appreciated.

Hello , I hope this is the correct forum to post this question. I installed server 2008 60 day trial last week. OS installed without any issues, I added the role of file server all OK. Added the server to my current sbs2003 domain without an issue. I wanted to test how fast server 2008 is at basic file serving. I setup a share with full permissions for the everyone account. I then copied files from our 2003 server to the share on the 2008 server. Network speed was good, all files copied across successfully. I can browse the share from any windows machine on the domain. Ever since we introduced the admin sidebar, our long term goal has been to bring a more comprehensive search to the admin interface that helps admins and moderators find exactly what they need without having to dig through many pages and settings manually. This method is so much faster than the old way, and we are excited to see if it helps you navigate the admin interface more efficiently . Finding what you’re looking for You can launch a quick search from anywhere in the admin interface with the shortcut Ctrl+/ , or on macOS, ⌘ +/ . This will bring up a window like this: You will see here that there are several different checked boxes beneath the input. These are the types of things you can search from here: Pages - Every page in the admin interface, including sub-pages not shown in the sidebar, and plugin pages Settings - Every site setting, which includes the setting description and keywords Themes - Every installed theme, whether they are enabled or disabled Components - Every installed theme component, whether they are enabled or disabled Reports - Every admin report, which includes a description of the report You can click these boxes to filter out the various types of search results. Here are some examples of each: Pages Settings Themes Components Reports You can also visit a full page version of the search by pressing Enter when results are being shown, or by clicking “Search” in the admin sidebar, which will take you to /admin/search. Enabling admin search You can turn this feature on with the experimental admin search enabled groups setting, which you can find in the Experimental config page at /admin/config/experimental: Note that when this feature is enabled, the keyboard shortcut for the admin sidebar filter is used for the search instead. We have added several new features to Discourse based on popular theme components to make it easier to customize the design of your community. In this topic, we’ll share more about these new core features, how to use them, and provide information about they compare to the theme components that inspired them. Header search The header search feature moves search from the magnifying glass in the top right corner to a more prominent input field in the site header. When more header space is needed (such as when scrolling a topic), the search will revert to the magnifying glass to save room. To turn on header search… In the admin area, go to your site settings. Find the Search experience setting. Update this setting to “Search field in site header”. Click the green check to save. Header search feature vs. Advanced Header Search component Header search was inspired by the Header Search theme component, which we’ve renamed to Advanced Header Search to distinguish it from the core feature. You should use the Advanced Header Search component when you need to support external searches (i.e. searches outside of your Discourse community). Otherwise, you can use the header search feature that’s now part of Discourse core. Welcome banner The welcome banner greets members and visitors and adds a prominent search bar to your topic lists. The welcome banner and header search features are compatible with each other so that header search will be hidden while the welcome banner is visible. The color will determine the icon color (if using) and impact other areas where a color is associated with the category, such as on the /categories page. Click Save Category. Category icons and emoji vs. Category Icons component Category icons and emoji were inspired by the Category Icons component, which we will soon be deprecating in favor of this core feature because it supports more customization (i.e. emojis) and offers a much simpler setup experience. For those currently using Category Icons, we recommend moving your icon customizations from Category Icons to the core category settings for longterm support and ongoing feature improvements.
