Hi there. I have recently promoted my new 2008 server to DC in my domain. I have yet to take down the old DC which is running SBS 2003. My problem seems to lie with DNS or some kind of Global catalog server problem. On the new machine, when I disconnect the old DC, Active directory does not populate, also sites and services doesn't either and when I run DCDIAG on the new machine I get the error 1355 saying the global catalog server cannot be contacted, along with the PDC server. I have since checked to make sure it is a global catalog server, and made sure it holds the PDC role too which it does. What am I missing?

In win 2003 with dual NICs (let say: one NIC for ADSL internet and another one for local LAN), you can set the priority of NIC by going to network connections in control panel, then click Advanced in menu, then click Advanced once more, a dialog apprears for you to set NIC priority. So my question is: how can I set NIC priority in win 2008? Please help me. I need your help. Sorry for my bad english. Thanks and regards, :)

After having joined a Windows XP client on my Server 2008 Domain, I noticed that the Group policies had not been applied to this profile. In my event viewer> Application Log I get an error saying "Source: Userenv - Evet ID: 1054 - Description: Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network. (An unexpected network error occured) Group Policy processing aborted. Now I noticed that my Vista clients are all working correctly, and my server 2008 Event Viewer does not show any errors. How can I resolve this error so I can make use of the Group policies? Many thanks in advance, Anthony Zschusschen Network administrator Fernandes Concern…

Hey folks - I've followed the various guides on how to get a batch file to run automatically upon Windows 2008 startup (vs. user login). The batch file I've written is really simple: @echo off net use z: \\server.fqdn\share_name passwd /user:username It sort-of works. Once the machine boots, I open the Windows Explorer, and I see the drive mapped but "Disconnected" with a big red X next to it. If I click on the drive, I can see its contents. If I try to right-click and disconnect it, no luck. It tells me the path doesn't exist. I get a similar error if I try to remove it using "net delete". So I'm doing something wrong, I'm just not sure where to look. The…

Hi all, In Windows 2003, we used the 'ntrights.exe' tool (part of the MS 2003 Resource Toolkit). With Windows 2008, there is no Resource Toolkit anymore, and no more ntrights.exe. Is there an equivalent way to do this in Windows 2008 R2? We used to do: ntrights.exe -u %USER% +r SeServiceLogonRight Any hints or suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Hallo, I want to install Windows Hyper-V Server on the new Via Nano (Isaiah) processor. I am using the Mainboard VIA VB8001. I downloaded the Hyper-V Server from here: Download details: Hyper-V Server 2008 Additionally I downloaded the Hotfix KB949459 (The new 64-bit CPU from VIA Technologies is not recognized on computers that are running Windows XP or later operating systems) to support this processor, integrated it by means of the Vista Update Integrator into the setup and burned a new setup DVD. But still a bluescreen with the errorcode 0x0000005D (Unsupported Processor) is displayed during setup. Does anyone see the problem? Is there another hotfix, whic…

Hi all, I have a very odd issue, in that DCOM permissions are being reset from CUSTOM back to DEFAULT, and causing event id 10016 The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID. I have worked a lot with DCOM on previous versions of Windows Server. This instance is Server 2008 X64. I have done the following, but the issue is still appearing: - checked Group Policies - none set to reset to default - added the default groups to the local security policy SDDL settings - setup Process Monitor but this didn't capture due to running out of memory I am now looking into auditing the registry …

Hey guys- I am new to most this stuff, just trying to figure it out for my work. I have a domain name being forwarded & masked to myip/ts. Users go to www.mydomain.com and it gets them to the TS Web Access login screen. HOWEVER- on the Remote Desktop tab, in the Connection Options--> Connect to: box, I have to input the IP Address of our site in order for it to allow us to login. Is there a way to setup an alias name so that the users don't have to try to remember an IP Address to log in with instead? So- I'd like them to be able to enter 'aliasname' in the Connect to: box instead of the IP Address of our site. Is this possible? Thanks for all the help!!!

When I choose to put the computer in Standby mode from the Turn Off Computer window the computer shuts down instead, and then when I start it up it goes into Standby mode. If that's followed by a Force Restart the computer starts up properly. Is it a hardware issue or a software issue? Everything seems to be fine in the Power Options control panel. Do you have a solution?

Hi, I'm working on preparing a base W2k8 image for a server rollout. Everything was working fine until I cleaned up the image before I took a snap clone of it. All I did was remove my domain user account and one other person's domain user account from the machine so that the user accounts wouldn't appear on the rolled out image. I made sure I went through the correct process of removing users, i.e. under system settings, goto Advanced System settings, the Advanced Tab, the User Profiles Settings, and deleting the 2 user accounts. I didn't touch anything else. I took the snap clone and assumed everything was ok. I then tried to logon to the machine using my domain…

Hi, The server is Server 2008 Standard. I have shared a folder on the server and on most of the desktop clients it is mapped as network drive. Suppose that folder is A. A contains many other folders, one of them is B. Only some users have access to folder B, because I have removed the inherited permissions on B from parent A. And actually some user renamed B to C. My problem is I am unable to rename C through administrator account also, which is the owner. When attempt to rename it says You need permission to rename the folder, though I am having full control over the folder. Any help please. Thank you.

I need to install SSLEAY32.dll on my Windows 2008 server. How do I do it? I tried to do it by copying the it from my XP system and putting it in the PATH but that did not work. It could not find the dll. I moved it to C:\Windows\System32 and ran regsvr32 filename.dll but it gave me a "failed to load" error message. I have 2 questions: 1) I know it is software from OpenSSL.org but I could not find it there. Where can I get a reliable copy that is compatable with Windows 2008 server? 2) How do I install it? Was I correct in moving it to \Windows\System32 and running regsvr32? TIA dave-
