Hi, I am new to this forum and a complete noob when it comes to Windows Server. I do however have a lot of other systems experience and is technically orientated, so am hopeful to pick up on this fairly quickly. I am part of a small'ish organisation that want to start making use of a server environment. However, we are a dispersed organisation with a small office and most of our employees either working from home, or at clients. I have an old ASP COM+ component which works on all version of Windows platforms. But in WS2008 it encountered the error - "ASP 0177: 80004002". All permission settings are in WS2008 (in different places) similar to WS2003. I duplicated all the WS2003 settings (works in WS2003) but cannot get it to work in WS2008. Anyone has suggestions how to get by the COM+ WS2008 security. Looks like a security problem. Thanks, Fk

hi everyone, im completely new using windows server 2008. this may be silly, but i really need help. we've been working on a web application, i need to make some connection tests with my server, but i dont know if my public ip is enabled, so that i can connect to my server. ive tried connecting via remote desktop but it keeps telling me that remote desktop is not enabled. my firewall is down, and i use FortiNet as my firewall. What should i do? thanks.

Hi, im trying to add a route between 2 subnets. I have a router on 192.168.2.1 and another router on 192.168.0.1 andam trying to reach the 0.1 subnet from the 2.1 I have added a static route in RRAS Destination: 192.168.0.0 MASK: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 0.0.0.0 I am still unable to reach 192.168.0.1 What am i doing wrong? In Windows 2008, it causes frequent crash of windows resulting in blue screen. On debugging the crash dump file, it shows VISTA_DRIVER_FAULT and points to a process that belongs to our application. On collecting crash dump two times, it showed two different processes that belong to our application. From the stack trace, I am unable to get much information other than some kernel related symbols. OK, I've had this problem with a couple of workstations in the domain before. With them I just un-joined the domain and re-joined the domain and presto, fixed! Well I had the same problem on another workstation where I didn't want to loose all of the local user account settings so I began searching on the Internet and found the following solution. One difference is that my problem is with a workstation. (I DID edit the workstation record NOT the server.) After doing that I applied a few updates that were available for the server and rebooted. Hi, In my Windows 2008 VPS I have opened the port 25 and 110 in my server Windows firewall. But it doesn't get working. Finally I found the SMTP service is not running on Services so I have started this server to get the port is working. But I couldn't find the services which is related to port 110 to enable it. I will be installing a new server which has a RAID controller with 4 1TB hard disks. I have thought about using at least 2 partitions, a C: logical drive for Windows Server 2008 and a D: logical drive for database and other applications like an email server. Is this an advisable approach? What would be a good practice? With respect, Jorge Maldonado

Hello! I found this excellent forum via XenForo and thought I should sign up for some advice :). I run a fair number of sites on a Windows 2012R2 server, including a few XF forums. I've noticed that their page generation times (as seen in debug mode) are anything from 0.2-0.4s on most pages. This seems significantly higher than other sites, so I'm trying to improve things. What is clickbait thread titles? In short it’s essentially a thread title that manipulates the reader into clicking to read or see more. Most of the time it is some nonsensical title. Generally what happens next, the reader is disenchanted by the title having nothing to do with the thread, or not being a correct description of the content, losing both interest and trust from your audience. Hi everybody, I've recently set up Server 2008 R2 as the PDC of an AD. Everything went well so far, but there is one problem I could not solve yet: In the clients' network settings I've entered the IP of the local 2008 R2 server as preferred DNS server. In the alternative DNS server field I've entered the IP of router that connects to the internet. What happens now is that whenever I try to connect to another client or even the server through its domain name, say "s2008.home.tld", the request apparently is handled by the router's DNS server (which forwards to the ISP's DNS server), which obviously returns an "unknown address - no website is configured to this addre…

Hi all!! and after all, sorry for my english!!! We have a memory problem, that I don't know how to solve. We have a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with 8 cores and 32Gb of RAM. We assign 20GB to SQL Server, an there is 12 GB free for OS. Basically the problem is that Windows Server is out of memory. For example statistics (we have to restart the server to get it normal again): Total Memory 32GB Used for SQL Server 20GB Cached memory 10GB What means that, the OS use this memory??? Hey there! I'm new to the forum, and I'm glad I found this resource, as I'm going to be learning server 2008 r2 and setting up a server... I have a few basic questions about networking it properly so that I can see it from the outside. Invision Community 5.0.4 Beta 1 is now available Please celebrate responsibly. A whole two weeks has passed since our last release. The extra week allowed us to fully review a few larger updates that we've held back and require a beta or two to fully test before we're happy to include in a full release. Things to test There have been some areas that have received a lot of attention and need extra special testing, these include: Page Editor (now works correctly for right-to-left languages but needs some testing in LTR) Custom badges (lots of work to make them more efficient and store a built version in SVG format) Editor bug fixes (lots of complex fixes, so please test the editor thoroughly) If you want a full list of changes, you can see that here. The release notes also have some changes which may impact third party developers. Using Betas If you do not see an upgrade, it means that you do not have betas enabled. We have been working on a new rich text editor mode for our composer so that it’s easier to write on Discourse. We’re now ready to start testing this mode out on Meta to get more feedback from our community on this feature! This topic will serve as both a guide to testing the new composer and a hub for tracking feedback. Thanks in advance for all your help! Getting to know the new composer The new composer is a rich text editor that simplifies the writing experience, particularly for non-technical users who are not comfortable with Markdown. This editor still supports Markdown, but formatting is rendered immediately for a WYSIWYG (“what you see is what you get”) experience that feels similar to other modern web composition tools (like Notion or Google Docs). To access the new composer, click the toggle in the toolbar. This will let you switch from the current Markdown-only mode to the new rich text editor. You can click the toggle again to switch back, if needed. What you’re testing today is the first version of the new composer. It is not yet intended to be a complete replacement for the current Markdown-only composer. We have focused on the basics first, which should cover most users’ needs. Please review the sections below to understand what is currently possible and what’s not yet ready in the new composer. We will update these areas over time as support expands! Starting today, we will be removing the Discourse Akismet plugin and will instead enable Discourse AI - Spam detection by default for hosted customers on Starter and Standard plans. Why are we making this change? Over the past few weeks, we’ve found our AI spam detector to deliver a superior performance over Akismet. We’ve had over 126 sites extensively using it and within Meta, we’ve personally seen over 96% success rate in detecting spam. On top of the performance, the setup would now be a default experience with customization and flexible options, should you need it. What do I need to do? If you are on our Starter or Standard hosting, nothing at all! The change would happen automatically in the background. You will no longer see Akismet within the plugins. You will now see the AI spam detector turned on in the AI plugin setting using a Discourse-hosted open-weights LLM If you have the AI plugin disabled, then you would manually need to turn on AI spam detector and select an LLM I already have AI spam detection enabled! If you already have AI spam detector enabled via What's New experiments, then you can safely ignore this announcement since you already have it! Why is this change only for Starter and Standard? For licensing reasons, we had to change the emoji sets. The following existing sets have been migrated automatically to a new set: apple → twemoji facebook_messenger → unicode google → noto google_classic → noto win10 → fluentui emoji_one → twemoji twitter → twemoji On top of fluent ui, noto, twemoji, and unicode, we also added the openmoji set. Admins can change the set at /admin/site_settings/category/all_results?filter=Emoji%20set If there’s an existing open-source set you would like to see available in Discourse, please let us know. We understand that changing emojis can be a very visible change, but we didn’t have any other way around it.
