I have changes things around a bit to get ready for the software upgrade next weekend. The resource directory is now moved to the forum and the old directory has been removed. There are other changes that went on behind the scenes. This is to make the upgrade as easy as possible.

When I go under "Software licensing" -> resolve now or go online to get genuine windows I got this message: "This pre-release version of windows has expired, to keep using windows, backup your files, and then install any released edition of windows server 2008 R2 Datacente." I am 100% sure my software is genuine. I've done a bit of research on this error. I might have problems with my system time. However, my system time is also up to date. Can anyone help me with this? Cheers!

Hi All, I have this web application I'm revising and hitting a wall when publishing to a 64 bit machine. It fails to run when I navigate to a page that accesses the Fusion Charts dll on the 64 bit machines ON a 32 bit machine there is no issue, FC runs fine on my 32 bit Vista x86 machine w/IIS 7. The 64 bit machines are Win Server 2008 R2 & Win 7. In each instance IIS 7 was set up the same as the 32 bit vista box and fwiw on the 64 bit machine 32 bit application mode was enabled. What am I missing to set up to allow a 32 bit application to run properly? The error I see when trying to access the fusion charts page (from the machine's desktop) look l…

Hi. I want to know how can I set an environment variable with the command line permanently and per user. After some searching, I found the "setx" command, but after a lot of experimentation, I never found something that REALLY works. Let me describe the actual reason I want to do that too - I have IIS7 running and PHP as CGI (I'm thinking of moving to FCGI, but the same problem would persist there anyway, so...) and I want to allow users to have their own php.ini. As by best security practices, PHP already runs in a different application pool with a different identity, and each user/identity already has appropriate rights on. So, in order to allow users to hav…

Although I am trying to run WS08 as a workstation, regardless, there are way too many black screens. These aren't exactly errors (I believe), just ugly. What i mean is, when I boot up, the screen is black for about 15 seconds and if not for the hardware, on screen there is no indication that anything is starting up. Then, I see the loading progress bar (no logo) for about 5 seconds. Then the screen goes black again and the monitor turns off for about 10 seconds. Then the login screen shows. I login and see another black screen for about 5 seconds before seeing the desktop. Once I am in, if I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, I see a black screen before the menu shows up and if I select…

Hi Guys I am new here and newbie in relation to IT and servers (changing my skills right now). I have a problem. Got some old PC's to help me train in getting MCITP. I had setup server 2008 no problems. Can connect to it via remote desktop using cable connection. PC's did not have Wireless cards and as my entire house is wireless I got a USB wifi card. It is connecting to network, gets IP, I can ping it and use internet but not remote desktop. It states computer not found. I had enabled remote desktop to allow all connections. I had also disabled cabled network card but that did not help. Any ideas? Cheers Lukas

Hi, I've got a 4GB Winserver 2008, SP 2, 64 bit system that mysteriously shuts down and restarts at random intervals from a few days to a few months appart. It has APC powerchute installed and a check of it's log does not reveal any power outages or battery back up tests. We've confirmed that the UPS has sufficient power for this system. How do I figure out if I'm looking at a hardware problem, (One tech recommended adding a second redundant powersupply)or a software problem? The only other software installed on this machine is Filemaker Server 10 and the techsupport boards over in Filemaker land aren't reporting any mysterious shut down issues there. The restart…

I have a Windows 2000 IIS5 server with around 40 apps on it. These apps vary in size and complexity but it represents about 9 years of dedicated application development time so the amount of code deployed is NOT insignificant. We have always been very please with the functionality and stabiltiy of this server but we are finally starting to hit the wall on some new development we are doing (for instance, support for Office 12 drivers). We are also pretty familiar with Windows Server 2003 IIS 6. However, if I'm going to dedicate team time to deploying, testing, and refactoring for IIS6, I am tempted to move to IIS7, go through the upgrade cycle just once, and be able to …

Hello, I'm new here and already start up with a problem. I have installed Windows Server 2008RS 2 on a PC running an AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core CPU with 4GB RAM. The installation process worked like a charm, but the trouble started at configurating the server. During the first config. screen where the time zone and other tasks are set up, I clicked to set up my network configuration and there it started. The onboard network controller won't recieve an IP from the router (D-Link DIR 825). DHCP on the router is enabled. I've already tried to set up a static IP, enabled/disabled the Windows firewall, but nothing works. What am I doing wrong?

We have a Windows Server 2008 standard 64-bit running SQL 2005 Standar 64-bit with a Xeon processor, 8GB mem, 2x RAID mirror set and another extra HDD for backups. This server runs IIS 7 and is a fairly high traffic website. Currently the server would sometimes just reboot unexpectedly; otherwise it runs like a dream without any issues. Question: How would I go about troubleshooting this, as I am not sure what kind of monitoring I need to setup to trace the cause of these reboots. Any help would be appreciated
