After the holidays are behind us I am going to put my attention to getting things done here I've been pushing off. Mainly because I was combining my tech sites. That's done so it's time for Forum Squared to get the things done I should have already done. List of planned items: Upgrade to Invision 5 beta. Currently at beta 9.1 Add the link directory. I removed it after I had a database crash. Revamp the downloads section and add more downloads. Work on the resources section. Get some articles off the drawing board and onto the site. Move my personal blog to here. This is not a priority so it might be a while. That's for starters. …

Forum Squared needs to add another staff member. The role will be to start topics and engage in the threads by our users. You'll also keep things in line and make sure no gets out of hand. This will eventually turn into a paid position once the site grows and starts to make money. It will be paid based on a revenue sharing model. If you are interested send me a PM.

I'm very new with Windows server so if anyone can recommend articles to read that cover my questions, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking for a bit of a step by step "how to" on adding my new 2008R2 server to my 2003 domain then then making the 2008R2 machine the master and decomissioning the 2003 server. Thanks in advance! FYI So far I have installed 2008R2 on the new server and haven't done anything else. It's not joined to the 2003 domain and I have not added any server roles to the 2008R2 machine. (Currently my 2003 server had AD, DHCP, and DNS duties.)

I'm hoping someone can make a suggestion as I'm at a loss. I have one server with 3 NIC's, WAN, LAN, and VLAN. WAN has the internet. LAN has a static IP assigned to it. VLAN is the hyper-v network adapter. I install Hyper-V and configure it to use VLAN. Several restarts occur. Then, I install DHCP, list LAN as the adapter to bind to, set the scope, and set server option 3 to the LAN ip address. I then install Network Policy & Access, select NAT, select WAN as the adapter sourcing the internet, and LAN as the adapter to share internet with. LAN and VLAN are connected to the same switch, VLAN gets it's ip from LAN's scope. VM's get their ip from the VLAN adapter, …

Hello, I'm new here and already start up with a problem. I have installed Windows Server 2008RS 2 on a PC running an AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core CPU with 4GB RAM. The installation process worked like a charm, but the trouble started at configurating the server. During the first config. screen where the time zone and other tasks are set up, I clicked to set up my network configuration and there it started. The onboard network controller won't recieve an IP from the router (D-Link DIR 825). DHCP on the router is enabled. I've already tried to set up a static IP, enabled/disabled the Windows firewall, but nothing works. What am I doing wrong?

Hi! I recently had to rebuild my work PC and laptop from home. When I did, I now can't remote into work. I get an error message, "The computer that you are trying to connect to cannot be contacted. Verify that it is turned on, is awake, and is connected to the network." I have tried all that I know and I can't find the problem. I can connect to my work Exchange server just fine. I am running SBS 2008 at work, along with Windows 7 Pro on the PC and laptop. Any ideas? Thanks! Scott

Hi, this is my very first time deploying and configuring AD. I am setting up a Domain Controller at home, for a very small network (testing and knowledge ;) ) I have crated the domain and have a DNS zone for my domain I had the DNS zone prior to setting up the DC, it was just propogating DNS records, A, MX mail etc etc for my domain. I am - on the same network - the DC is my DNS server - I have a static IP - The adapter is setup to update DNS records. - The DC/DNS server is not the DHCP server I am getting the error Note: Th…

Hi, I'm not very into Windows Server Functionality.. so I have to ask if this behavior is normal or not. There is the thing. We have a Virtual Windows Server 2008 R2 with 32 GB of Ram 20 GB for SQL 12 GB for SO In the server. SQL Server 2008 Some DBF Tables (not larger than 500MB) We noticed after restar that SQL grows up till 20 GB.. this is ok we set this option in SQL After some time.. lets say une day. we see the SO is out of memory. In Task Manager we see "Free Memory" < 50MB and in cached Memory we see all the memory for the SO. 1 - The question is.. is this normal in Windows Server 2008 (and R2) ? I see a lot of people asking for this..…

Good Afternoon, I recently installed Windows Server 2008 R2 with AD DS and DNS - since I installed these roles however the internet is really laggy for me - downloads time out, websites time out very very frequently, and when I did ping tests, even those would randomly time out. I'm not sure why or where the hang up is but it makes it very difficult to navigate or get anything done so I'd like to find a resolution to this as soon as possible. I'm fairly new to Windows Server 2008 so I'm not sure what information is needed so let me know whats needed to help troubleshoot this and I'll provide it within minutes. Thanks and I hope to find a resolution soon - I'll br…

Hey guys- I am new to most this stuff, just trying to figure it out for my work. I have a domain name being forwarded & masked to myip/ts. Users go to www.mydomain.com and it gets them to the TS Web Access login screen. HOWEVER- on the Remote Desktop tab, in the Connection Options--> Connect to: box, I have to input the IP Address of our site in order for it to allow us to login. Is there a way to setup an alias name so that the users don't have to try to remember an IP Address to log in with instead? So- I'd like them to be able to enter 'aliasname' in the Connect to: box instead of the IP Address of our site. Is this possible? Thanks for all the help!!!

ok so i recently had everything on IIS working perfectly, and i dont know what changed. My website www.guitaronline.co.nz is working, all seems fine there, all that is wrong is the FTP. When i go to Add FTP Publishing, i set it up with access for users "Administartor" and allow SSL IP address all unassigned on port 21. The ftp directory is pointing to the wwwroot, as i want to be able to edit website file over FTP. All this was working before, and now the connection just times out. When connecting to the FTP (in map driver in My Computer) it promps for login, then enter Administrator and password, then the connection just times out! any ideas? also the site name of …

Hi, I'm configuring my dns for the first time and am having some problems. I have my domain pointing to ns1.mydomain.com and on my server I created a ns1 nameserver entry under the forward lookup zone for mydomain.com. My problem is in the SOA whenever I change my nameservers or the primary server from compname.mydomain.com to ns1.mydomain.com it takes effect... but then later I go back into it and it has changed back automatically to compname.mydomain.com This leads me to the conclusion that I'm not doing this correctly! My question is... does ns1.mydomain need to be a physical server or just a nameserver entry for mydomain.com? Is there any way to change the primary…
