After the holidays are behind us I am going to put my attention to getting things done here I've been pushing off. Mainly because I was combining my tech sites. That's done so it's time for Forum Squared to get the things done I should have already done. List of planned items: Upgrade to Invision 5 beta. Currently at beta 9.1 Add the link directory. I removed it after I had a database crash. Revamp the downloads section and add more downloads. Work on the resources section. Get some articles off the drawing board and onto the site. Move my personal blog to here. This is not a priority so it might be a while. That's for starters. …

Forum Squared needs to add another staff member. The role will be to start topics and engage in the threads by our users. You'll also keep things in line and make sure no gets out of hand. This will eventually turn into a paid position once the site grows and starts to make money. It will be paid based on a revenue sharing model. If you are interested send me a PM.

A few years ago there was a proposal to Icann to create .forum top level domains. It took forever and now they are available. I have a 3 of them: https://computerhelp.forum https://freepchelp.forum https://offtopic.forum I was sceptical at first and bought those 3 because I lost the domains the sites were on when I was ill. They were cheap, $4.95 each so I thought why not. Those domains have been online now for almost 6 months. I will say this Google loves the .forum domains. Those sites get almost double the traffic that old sites on .com domains got. If those visitors would only convert to active users. I can dream. What you think about the .forum doami…

Hi all, I have an c#.NET web application running on Windows 2008 Enterprise 32 bit server. Dual Xeon X5460 CPU with 16 GB RAM. Database server also has the same configuration. I get 8-9 seconds waiting time before the application responds. I use the same application on Windows 2003 Enterprise server. Application responds in 3 seconds for the same data and application. I made a search on the internet and made the following changes on the 2008 server: Disable chimney offload state Disable receive window auto tuning Adding to aspnet.config It made only minor changes. Hello, I have windows 2008 enterprise server running terminal server. I have a user who is logging in with default user rights. The user has a .zip file on the desktop. It opens in notepad, not the default .zip compressed folder like it normally does. It appears the .zip file association for this user only has been changed. I believe it is because he right clicked the file, and chose open with and selected word pad for some unknown reason. I searched the net and could only find information about .zip associations for Vista, Me and XP but nothing for 2008 server. This is a production server so all help is greatly appreciated. I installed/configured Core Server 2008 for print services I am managing it via Print Manager from Vista. I have tried exporting/importing printers from a file as well as adding a driver (any driver) individually from the Add Driver wizard - all fail. The errors I am receiving are: "Unable to install [driver name] This Operation is not supported." Then: "Failed to add driver. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000578)." I can add a TCP/IP printer port manually, just no printer drivers. I am logged in with a user account that has domain admin privileges and UAC is disabled I was able to install a print driver to the Windows 2008 Core print server on …

Hello, i have attached a screen shot of the "Where do you want to install Windows" screen that appears when trying to install Windows Server 2008 on a fairly new PC-Intel-64-Dual-Core-4GB-Vista machine that is working fine and when i get to the screen above there are no entries at all appearing on this screen. And just to test out the installation on another machine, i took this Windows Server 2008 CD and successfully installed it on a pretty old low end AMD-64-Vista laptop with no problem and the volume/drive entries appeared fine on this screen. This newer machine does have a Raid/Mirrored drive setup, do you think this could somehow confusing the visibility to the volu…

Sorry if i kind of flood this section, but i really need help. Anyway, I was able to connect my PHP files to the server, but the thing is those leads to the ASP pages we had, and there's an error when we're trying to load the ASP page. I tried replacing the complicated ASP script with a simple response.write script to see if ASP as a whole is the problem, but it loads the response.write script. I tried adding to that script by including "", and to my shock, the page was back to giving out the "500 - Internal Server Error". Meaning this is a problem with the include script Can anyone please help me out? How do I fix this? I really appreciate all the help I can get…

Invision Community 5.0.4 Beta 1 is now available Please celebrate responsibly. A whole two weeks has passed since our last release. The extra week allowed us to fully review a few larger updates that we've held back and require a beta or two to fully test before we're happy to include in a full release. Things to test There have been some areas that have received a lot of attention and need extra special testing, these include: Page Editor (now works correctly for right-to-left languages but needs some testing in LTR) Custom badges (lots of work to make them more efficient and store a built version in SVG format) Editor bug fixes (lots of complex fixes, so please test the editor thoroughly) If you want a full list of changes, you can see that here. The release notes also have some changes which may impact third party developers. Using Betas If you do not see an upgrade, it means that you do not have betas enabled. Invision Community Cloud Cloud customers can opt-in to betas in the client area. We have been working on a new rich text editor mode for our composer so that it’s easier to write on Discourse. We’re now ready to start testing this mode out on Meta to get more feedback from our community on this feature! This topic will serve as both a guide to testing the new composer and a hub for tracking feedback. Thanks in advance for all your help! Getting to know the new composer The new composer is a rich text editor that simplifies the writing experience, particularly for non-technical users who are not comfortable with Markdown. This editor still supports Markdown, but formatting is rendered immediately for a WYSIWYG (“what you see is what you get”) experience that feels similar to other modern web composition tools (like Notion or Google Docs). To access the new composer, click the toggle in the toolbar. This will let you switch from the current Markdown-only mode to the new rich text editor. You can click the toggle again to switch back, if needed. What you’re testing today is the first version of the new composer. It is not yet intended to be a complete replacement for the current Markdown-only composer. We have focused on the basics first, which should cover most users’ needs. Please review the sections below to understand what is currently possible and what’s not yet ready in the new composer. We will update these areas over time as support expands! Starting today, we will be removing the Discourse Akismet plugin and will instead enable Discourse AI - Spam detection by default for hosted customers on Starter and Standard plans. Why are we making this change? Over the past few weeks, we’ve found our AI spam detector to deliver a superior performance over Akismet. We’ve had over 126 sites extensively using it and within Meta, we’ve personally seen over 96% success rate in detecting spam. On top of the performance, the setup would now be a default experience with customization and flexible options, should you need it. What do I need to do? If you are on our Starter or Standard hosting, nothing at all! The change would happen automatically in the background. You will no longer see Akismet within the plugins. You will now see the AI spam detector turned on in the AI plugin setting using a Discourse-hosted open-weights LLM If you have the AI plugin disabled, then you would manually need to turn on AI spam detector and select an LLM I already have AI spam detection enabled! If you already have AI spam detector enabled via What's New experiments, then you can safely ignore this announcement since you already have it! Why is this change only for Starter and Standard? For licensing reasons, we had to change the emoji sets. The following existing sets have been migrated automatically to a new set: apple → twemoji facebook_messenger → unicode google → noto google_classic → noto win10 → fluentui emoji_one → twemoji twitter → twemoji On top of fluent ui, noto, twemoji, and unicode, we also added the openmoji set. Admins can change the set at /admin/site_settings/category/all_results?filter=Emoji%20set If there’s an existing open-source set you would like to see available in Discourse, please let us know. We understand that changing emojis can be a very visible change, but we didn’t have any other way around it.
