After the holidays are behind us I am going to put my attention to getting things done here I've been pushing off. Mainly because I was combining my tech sites. That's done so it's time for Forum Squared to get the things done I should have already done. List of planned items: Upgrade to Invision 5 beta. Currently at beta 9.1 Add the link directory. I removed it after I had a database crash. Revamp the downloads section and add more downloads. Work on the resources section. Get some articles off the drawing board and onto the site. Move my personal blog to here. This is not a priority so it might be a while. That's for starters. …

This will eventually turn into a paid position once the site grows and starts to make money. It will be paid based on a revenue sharing model. If you are interested send me a PM.

Can anyone recommend reliable yet affordable tape backup software for Windows 2008? Don't need fancy features Backup Exec has. Something more down-to-earth like ntbackup.exe to transfer files on tape. Thanks ;)

Server: Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Client: the server and a Vista computer. I setup an user account on the Windows server with a password. I added the user account to the Remote Desktop Users. I added it to TS Web Access Computers Properties. Remote Desktop icon shows in RemoteApp tab along with a Calc icon. Calculator loads fine after logging on. However, Remote Desktop does not. It gives an "Access Denied." error! However, Administrator account loads Remote Desktop perfectly. What is the problem and solution? Thanks, Ajay

Hi there :) My IIS7 is now running almost flawlessly on my x64 server. The "only" little issue left, is a real bugger. I can't seem to initiate any of the "older" classic ASP objects which I have registered using regsvr32. No matter the object or ASP file, I get this error: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01ad' ActiveX component can't create object Has anyone experienced this? Sincerely, Klaus J.

I'm very new with Windows server so if anyone can recommend articles to read that cover my questions, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking for a bit of a step by step "how to" on adding my new 2008R2 server to my 2003 domain then then making the 2008R2 machine the master and decomissioning the 2003 server. Thanks in advance! FYI So far I have installed 2008R2 on the new server and haven't done anything else. It's not joined to the 2003 domain and I have not added any server roles to the 2008R2 machine. (Currently my 2003 server had AD, DHCP, and DNS duties.)

I have setup a new Windows 2008 Server. I installed IIS7 on this box. What I find is that only port 80 is open, at least that's all I know about. I attempted to open port 9100 using: netsh firewall add portopening TCP 9100 VNC When I run: netsh firewall show state It shows that the port is open. But when I run a port scan utility I have on another machine it does not find that port 9100 is open. What steps do I take to get port 9100 open?

I installed/configured Core Server 2008 for print services I am managing it via Print Manager from Vista. I have tried exporting/importing printers from a file as well as adding a driver (any driver) individually from the Add Driver wizard - all fail. The errors I am receiving are: "Unable to install [driver name] This Operation is not supported." Then: "Failed to add driver. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000578)." I can add a TCP/IP printer port manually, just no printer drivers. I am logged in with a user account that has domain admin privileges and UAC is disabled I was able to install a print driver to the Windows 2008 Core print server on …

I have an old ASP COM+ component which works on all version of Windows platforms. But in WS2008 it encountered the error - "ASP 0177: 80004002". All permission settings are in WS2008 (in different places) similar to WS2003. I duplicated all the WS2003 settings (works in WS2003) but cannot get it to work in WS2008. Anyone has suggestions how to get by the COM+ WS2008 security. Looks like a security problem. Thanks, Fk

I have an older Windows server with 2003 Standard, acting as the DC, DHCP and DNS. There are roughly 30 user accounts in AD. Is there an easy way to migrate the old AD onto the new box with Server 2008 on it. Thanks.

I want to schedule a task that opens a webpage on the local server. I know the path is correct, adn that the site is functioning. I can type: "C:\program files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" (path to local webpage) in to the "Start/Run..." dialog and this launches the webpage in IE. Fine. But when I set my task, nothing happens at the allotted time - even if I try the "Run on demand" option, nada. I get an 0x41306 (or 1) "Last run result" show. Makes me wonder if there a setting somewhere wihtin IE perhaps that prevents it from being launched via a schedule? If so, or if anyone has a better idea, I'd be most grateful to know what it is... Many thanks... (n…

I'm running a new install of Server 2008 and setting up a completely new domain. When it asks for FQDN, I'm putting in mail.company.com since that is what we have in our current SBS2003 server. (before we had company.local and were getting rejected by some ISPs) At the beginning of the wizard, I thought I remember it asking my to name the domain, which I typed company.local However, at the end of the wizard, it sums up everything and says: "The new domain name is mail.company.com. This is also the name of the new forest" "The NetBIOS name of the domain is MAIL" We want our domain name to be company.local, any idea why it defaults the name to the FQD…

I configured a 2008 server to be a DC and DNS server. All installs went well, but now that it's up and runnning it takes about 20 to 30 seconds to load a web page. Once it loads, the speed is fine. It seems like DNS is taking way too long to resolve names on the Internet. I have a SonicWall TZ 190 that is acting as the DHCP server and handing out the internal IP of the DC/DNS server to all workstations. If I manually configure the clients with the ISP's DNS servers they run fine. It has to be an issue with the DNS server. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
