In order to download xenforo styles or addons you have to be a valid xenForo license holder. In order to access all of the site you must validate your XenForo license. To validate that you are a owner of a valid XenForo license do the following: Log in to the XenForo customer area. Click on the Validation token link for you license. Copy the license token to your clipboard. Log in to your Forum² account area. On the left select the XenForo License Validation link. Paste the validation token in the top box and domain in the other. Submit the form. You will now show up as a valid XenForo license holder and have access to all parts of Forum². As an added perk as a valid license holder you have the ability to use a custom title and can change it as often as you like. The license token and domain are only used to validate that you own a valid XenForo license. The information is not stored and it is purged once validation process is complete. You only have validate as a licensed user 1 time.3 points

I like the idea of hosting contests and I’ve hosted a few on the previous versions of my forum. Especially posting contests, they work well.2 points

I want to apologize for the downtime. I was in Tennessee looking at property. The power was not fully restored when I left. I though the back up power would hold things together in between. It didn't. Site went offline on Tuesday as I was doing an upgrade. I wasn't able to access the server until this morning when I got home. Power was still off. It came back at about 1630ET. It still up and down. Backup generator is keeping up this time. Thanks for understanding2 points

I have created 2 new user groups. They are: VIP Visiting Admin The visiting admin group is for admins from other sites that are active participants here. The VIP group is for members that actively participate in the discussions, create new topics and contribute articles. Members promoted to this group will get extra privileges and get a shiny badge to denote that they are indeed VIP's. If you have any questions I'll answer them.2 points

I also use them. They’re good for navigational purposes and can help users find topics a lot easier too.2 points

I remember that. Sure has improved since then. Download, upload, install, done. :P2 points

Not now. I prefer to let someone else do the hard work while I get the benefits. LOL. I am thinking about starting a forum. Not sure what topic. If I ever do pick a topic I'll start one.2 points

I got the email that the site was open again. Good to know. I guess I never introduced myself. I'm Pacman. Good to meet you.2 points

I think a major mistake is starting the site, and attempting to get, say... 5 or 6 staff. I've never understood that. 3 threads, and they'll have 6 staff members listed in the block....2 points

I also use Google alerts to come up with new content ideas. Quora and Reddit is a gold mine as there’s a lot of ways that you can spin their content & come up with your own content.1 point

I try to post new content every day. However, if I miss a day or two, I’ll go on a posting spree to make up for the missed time.1 point

I never go into creating forums with any expectations. I am pretty hard on myself and expect perfection in everything I do. I do this for a hobby. I am passionate about it and try to make each forum the best they can be. I just don't want to set goals.1 point

It is Very important to emphasize the importance of adaptability and patience because you’ll find out that forum dynamics change very quickly, and certain issues can come up unexpectedly. So, this is why you need to be flexible and level-headed. It will help in navigating the challenges you might face.1 point

I’ll advise to focus on a specific niche like retro gaming. This can attract dedicated members especially the ones that are seeking in-depth discussions.1 point

Starting a forum can be very rewarding. I will advise you to go with the tech niches. They are broad and you can easily get topics that will spark engagement. It could be on cybersecurity, AI, or gaming. Understanding the current dynamics is also very crucial. You can leverage platforms like Discord, Reddit, and Facebook to understand the current community dynamics.1 point

Most of the ones I remember are not seen any longer. I am not sure what happened to them. At some point some of them will find it. I think we had 1 user already find us from an old bookmark.1 point

So for fun (and to exercise my brain) I decided to code up a forum. Here are some pictures. (You can probably infer where I got the visual ideas from)1 point

It's pretty good for free. A ton of features. As soon as things stabilize with the power outages here I'll install a phpbb test site.1 point

I am actually writing a forum script, mostly as an exercise for my brain, but perhaps for a community that I might never launch.1 point

Yea I know it just got back. Can't be helped. I will be updating the xenforo from 1.5.14 to 2.3.3. Backups will be made first. When I start the backup I'll close the site. If everything goes well It should only be done a couple hours. See you all on the other side.1 point

You should reach out to the users. Send an email announcing the site is open. Couldn't hurt.1 point

I used to actively participate in SEO forums. Things have changed so much now I'm not 100% sure you need to do anything to make it easier for SE's to find you. I do add a signature on the forums I visit. Some of them don't allow sigs. Some allow sigs but no links. I drop the link on Twitter every once in a while. I used to be heavy into Twitter. I would watch the members online go up like crazy after I posted a link to an article. I was obsessed with trying to convert those visitors to users. Never could and never could understand why they didn't join. You would think if you had over a thousand online reading the article that someone would want to say somehting about it. Never happened.1 point

Yes it's still downloadable. New license is like $499 with $199 renewal. I am a legacy customer so I still get access to new versions and pay old renewal prices. I got a message in the client area to upgrade my licenses to the new classic license at a lower cost of $199 with renewals at $99 every 6 months. I declined and paid $25 to upgrade the license on the test site.1 point

It took me a minute to figure out categories and boards. It came default with a "Forums" category and one board under it. They call it channel, I call it board LOL. But I had to create a secondary category under Forums to make the category name show up on index and then child forums under the categories. So, like three deep to get a board to display under a visible category. That took me about a half hour to figure out. It's lacking some feature. Security questions, likes, etc. I figured vb would already have that TBH to compete with XF.1 point

A domain is a group of objects (computers, users, policies, ...). In a windows environment you have a basic NON-domain WORKGROUP (called workgroup) which is good until 10 clients, then you can't add more pc. This limit is imposed by microsoft. In a domain you can easily manage everything at once, when you decide that the new default printer will be the HP IdontKnow instead of the Canon IreallyDontKnow, you don't have to access all the computers, you can just change your script or group policy. Regarding NAMES: well you should have everytime a local domain and (if needed) a public domain. Dynamics update are something different, actually megahosting.co.nz and megahosting.local ARE NOT the same thing. Windows doesn't know anything about the similar name. So, you should first create the LOCAL domain and THEN the public domain. To be honest this doesn't matter, the most important thing is: have 2 domains, internal and external. Hope this help.1 point

You can create a cluster of webserver with a proxy. Once you need to reboot a server, your proxy forwards all the requests to the only alive server. Usually a proxy is made with linux and it doesn't need so much updates.1 point

is there any particular step / problem you have to do while importing / exporting with cvsde? I'm telling you that because "many" people want migrate from 2k to 2k8 but they use a 2k3 domain in the middle to be sure everything will work fine. If you tell me this solution works fine, in the next few days, I will test it in a testing environment. Let me know!1 point

I currently have a Server 2003 install. It's old. We had two drives crash in my RAID 5, so we're upgrading to new HP hardware. Installing Server 2008 on the new server. What should I be ready for and can I move my settings (IP settings, user rights, etc.) from the old server to the new server? Point me to any info you can. Thanks Charles1 point

Hi all, I'm a problem with my server win2008 (B. 6002 SP2), 2 mounth ago, this has begin to freeze without an apparent reason. On event viewer there isn't nothing, only a "The previous system shutdown at xx.xx.xx on xx/xx/xxxx was unexpected." before the forced shutdown. This server is my Exchange Server 2007 with all the windows updates, is a virtual machine on ESX too. On the Reability and Performance Monitor, tab Reliability Monitor, i see only a message "Disruptive shutdown" on the dates that I must restart forced the PC. There is any that help me to know where is the problem? Francisco Ramos (Sorry for my english, is wrong)1 point
