Discourse is now shipping with a more modern implementation of the header, including more flexible and robust customization APIs. The new version has already been automatically enabled for sites with compatible themes & plugins. For incompatible sites, a banner is being shown to admins warning them to take action before the old header implementation is removed. If you see this banner, follow the linked instructions to update your customizations. If you don’t see the banner, then your site is ready, and you don’t need to do anything. Warning banners have been shown to admins since 20th June (v3.3.0.beta3). From the week commencing 5th August (v3.4.0.beta1), we will enable the new header by default for all sites, even if they have incompatible customizations. It will still be possible for admins to switch back to the old header by manually setting the “glimmer header mode” site setting to “disabled”. From the week commencing 2nd September, the option to use the old header will be removed entirely. If you need help getting your site ready, please post in the instructions topic or speak to your hosting provider. 7 posts - 4 participants Read full topic View the full article

vBulletin 6.0.5 is now available for download by self-hosted (download) customers. vBulletin Cloud sites will be automatically updated in the upcoming weeks. [HEADING=1]Front End Changes[/HEADING] [HEADING=2]Global Advertising Management[/HEADING] In previous versions, each ad was unique to the Ad Location. Unique ad lists made reusing Ad code difficult across modules. Starting in vBulletin 6.0.5, Ad Locations will list all available Ad units/templates in the system to make reuse easier. [HEADING=2]Email Handling[/HEADING] Outgoing notification emails will include a global one-click unsubscribe link, which complies with requirements set by many email providers. Transactional emails (e.g., password changes) do not include the link. Emails also include a header that allows email providers to show an unsubscribe button. Two new options have been added to the system to control these additions. You will find them in the AdminCP under Settings -> Options -> Email Settings. [HEADING=2]Web Application Manifest[/HEADING] vBulletin 6.0.5 automatically generates a Web Application Manifest. The Web Manifest defines your site as a web application for the end-user device. It allows them to install vBulletin on their home screen. [HEADING=2]Structured Data Markup[/HEADING] Structured Data Markup is metadata used in the HTML output of your forums. This metadata tells search engines how to categorize your data. In vBulletin 6.0.0, we updated the metadata to fit Google's Rich Search Results specification. Recently, Google started to support the DiscussionForumPosting markup. In vBulletin 6.0.5, Forum & Group Topics use the new metadata as much as possible within the current framework. [HEADING=1]Back End / AdminCP Changes[/HEADING] [HEADING=2]Template Parsing[/HEADING] The development team has refactored template parsing. This change allows for better isolation of individual tags and curly shortcodes used in the template markup. Benefits of the refactor include: A standardized set of utility classes to handle template parsing (/core/vb/utility/template). Improved error reporting on template save. The introduction of Limited Templates. [HEADING=3]Limited Templates[/HEADING] Limited Templates are designed to expand the vBulletin Cloud's template editing capabilities. These new templates make a limited number of the vBulletin Markup tags and curly shortcodes available to vBulletin Cloud customers. These Tags are Available: usergroup, comment, and literal. These Curly Codes are available: stylevar We will expand the list of tags and curly codes over time. Customers can use Limited Templates with template hooks to show custom HTML inline to your end users. Switching the css_additional.css template to the new Limited Category will allow you to reuse Style Variables in your custom CSS. Resolved a performance issue with opening and closing large topics (thousands of posts). (VB6-490, VB6-493) Four new template hooks are available. These allow customers to add content between posts and comments. Hello and welcome to the community.

In the future Forum² will move to IPB as its software. Forum² started out on IPB and when IPB 4 was first released it was less then stellar so I converted to xenForo. Now that 4.2 is about to be released with new features not available in any other software I decided to convert back to IPB. I feel this converion is needed to move Forum² into the future.

This is an alpha-level release. Do not use it in production. Understand the restrictions listed below before downloading this release. We are very excited to announce that the first developer preview of XenForo 2.0.0 is now available. Any customer with an active license may download this. However, before you download this release, it is very important you understand these restrictions: You cannot upgrade into this release. You will only be able to do a fresh installation (into an unused database). You will not be able to upgrade out of this release. Subsequent developer previews will require a fresh installation. We will not support upgrading from a developer preview to a beta or other release. You must be comfortable manually editing files, modifying file permissions and accessing PHP via the command line to setup and install this version. If you want to install this on an external server, you are very likely to need SSH access. This release is primarily targeted at XenForo add-on developers, to allow them to start to understand the new XenForo 2 code and begin to experiment with writing add-ons for it. Beyond that, keen enthusiasts are welcome to install this release to understand more about what is included out of the box and to test that functionality. However, if you do not feel comfortable with the requirements/restrictions above, we'd recommend you wait for a beta release to experiment. To reiterate, you should not use this release in production. Any data you create within a developer preview release will likely be lost as subsequent releases will require re-installation. This is the first of the developer preview releases. There will be more released frequently. Once we are happy with the state of the developer preview, we intend to move onto the "standard" beta process. XenForo 2.0 requirements Make sure you meet the following requirements before downloading: PHP 5.4+ MySQL 5.5+ Currently the same PHP modules as XenForo 1, though cURL may potentially be added as a requirement. Downloading XenForo 2.0 You would download this (and future) XenForo 2.0 releases in the same way you download any other version. Log into your Customer Area and click download on one of your licenses. Provided it's active, you'll have an option to change the version to the developer preview. Note that because you will be doing a fresh install, we recommend you ensure the "Download the upgrade package only" option is NOT selected. Installing and developer documentation We have prepared some initial documentation to help developers understand a lot of the new concepts in XenForo 2. This also covers the installation process. This documentation should be considered a work in progress, something that will be consistently reworked and expanded over time. Get started with the documentation and installation guide: Getting started - XenForo 2.0 Documentation Bugs reports and development questions We will continue using this demo installation through the developer preview. Any bugs you find in the developer preview should be posted in the bugs forum here. For development-related questions, we have added a new development questions forum. Any other feedback should go in feedback and comments. As per before, full blown suggestions should remain on the main XenForo community.

Many of us use Wordpress along side the forum software of choice. I just seen this pop up on Hack News a couple hours ago. Golunski responsibly reported the vulnerability to the developers, who have patched the vulnerability in their new release, PHPMailer 5.2.18. I'm sure Wordpress will have a fix out soon. Since I am proactive I used the fix supplied in the Wordpress Codex.

Site Name/URL: XenForo Zone - For XenForo Enthusiasts I created XenForo Zone in November 2016 with the idea that XenForo license owners and enthusiasts could gather to share ideas. I didn't do much with it at the time because I had no time to dedicate to it. A couple weeks ago that changed and I dropped the link on a couple sites I belong to that run XenForo. The site has picked up some active users since. I look forward to seeing you at our sister site XenForo Zone.
