I am debating if I should add a shoutbox or not. I added one to my tech forum and it crashed and burned pretty fast because it annoyed the users. OTOH, when I had Just BS open it complemented the forum topics nicely and users enjoyed it. What to do? I have licenses to both licenses so if I do decide to add it here I'm unsure of which to add. I guess at this point I'll say coming soon.

I have changed the style of the site to match the style on XenForo Zone. This will make it easy for me to roll out changes without having to worry about doing major changes to the styles. This style as is the one on XenForo Zone are the default style as a child of PixelExit very fine XenBase framework. I am using 2 branding free version of the style that I purchased a while ago and never used to get access to the framework. The rest was easy. For the people that prefer the old style it is still available. You can switch to it by using the style chooser at the bottom left.

I have imported all threads, posts and other data from The Server Zone to this site. All of your posts and user data has been carried over. I know some people don't like it when another site that they never joined imports them into a new community. If you feel that way I would ask that you look around and see if Forum² is a place you'd like to be a part of. If after you've looked around you would like to have your account removed let me know and I will remove you. Once again I would like to say welcome to Forum² and I hope you enjoy being a part of the community.

I have decided that I am going to stay with XenForo and work to build this site to what I envisioned it to be. That being the new leader in the forum admin niche.

I might have to put a test site up for this. -
SEO possible for single page website?
AWS replied to kabirthapar's topic in Marketing / Ad Revenue / SEO
I'm not so sure you can accomplish this. SE would look on it as keyword spam. -

You can make Discourse look like Flarum fairly easily. I want something that will scale as the site grows. I think the dev team behind Discourse have a proven track record as far as the software running on heavy traffic sites.

The sizes can probably be adjusted. Didn't they start to use font awesome as icons?

I admit I have been lax adding new topics to spur discussions since I opened the community. The reason is that the current structure of forums are old and antiquated. The current structure, category hierarchy with linear list of threads, has outlived it's usefulness. People want to see what's new and interesting without having to click several links to get to the content. Saying that I am looking at options to move this community into the 21ST century. As it is now this community, as well as thousands like it, are stuck in the early 2000's. This is the single most reason why forums are failing. I am looking at alternatives. I have narrowed the choice down to either Vanilla, Flarum or Discourse. At this point in time I am leaning towards Discourse or Vanilla since I have experience with those. I had test sites up for staff of my tech site to play with before a planned migration. Discourse scales well as traffic to the site grows. Styling it is fairly simple since it can all be done by editing a few css files. As it is Discourse is the front runner. I have experience with Vanilla since I was an admin on a site that migrated from vbulletin to Vanilla. At first activity slowed, but once the users got used to the way it works activity increased. New user signups also increased and posting by those new users also increased. Flarum I have no experience with, but, I do like the aesthetics of it. I might install a test version to see if it will be a viable option. Look for changes to come. If this forum is to be a major player it has to step into the future.

I don't know if any of you have seen or heard about the once in a lifetime storm that resulted in epic flooding in West Virginia. Death Toll Climbs to 23 in Historic West Virginia Flooding One of our members, @Sheldon, lives in this area and has been giving reports of the devastation on BASH.zone that he has witnessed first hand. While he reports that flood waters are receding him and his family are still in danger. Lets all keep Sheldon and his family in our thoughts until this disaster is behind him.

Despite what some have been saying Forum² was not taken offline. My provider, Comcast, had a major outage that affected most of the Midwest. Since I host my own servers on a Comcast fiber connection to my office this site and my other sites were all down. I want to apologize for the downtime. It is never good to have a site down for 6 hours like this was, especially a new site.

I have seen that too many times. I think the admins that do that hope the staff members will add content by robo-posting a bunch of topics.
-
I normally will merge content in to a new account. Much neater that way.
