Now that I've been using Invision Community for a few weeks I am getting deeper into the apps that come with it. Tere is so much being offered it's almost overwhelming. I decided to see what I could do with pages the CMS. I was looking in the app at how the basic articles system was set up. Using that as a guide I created a link directory. I bought the scripts that are used here for the link directory. At the time I wanted a solution so that I could replace the one I used when we were on xenforo and the one used here was avaialble. I actually had a license for it so the renewal wasn't bad. In any case I converted SEO Forum to IPB a couple days ago. I then upgraded it to v5 beta 4. I create a new database in pages. The I created a new set of templates to display the data. Some trial and error and a little research and I had the basic setup. I added a few sites. After that I tweaked a little until I came up with a working link directory. The power of this software is really something. I am going to get into the commerce plugin next. See if I can create a points system to reward users and setup a store so they can use those points. You can see the directory at SEO Forum Link Directory. Let me know what you think.

I have changed the reactions and added a few more. Check them out next time you post.

If you use Adsense have you seen your income go up and down? I know it can vary hugely for some sites. Some sites do very well and can count on the revenue to be consistent every month. Some get huge rewards one month and next to nothing the next. What can cause that if traffic stream is constant?

How many of you have used a software package that wasn't coded in PHP? To me PHP has always been a spaghetti model. All kinds of mish mash that seems to work when put together. There are many options to choose from that don't use PHP. Perl is less used these days. It was what all software packages were coded in at the beginning. Ruby is what Discourse is coded in. If you get into Discourse you can appreciate the elegance of Ruby. ASP and .Net are lesser known. All of the Microsoft tech forums and blogs are coded on the .Net platform. C# i think. In any case if you ever visit technet forums you'll see how powerful .Net is. Especially when paired with SQL Server. What's your thoughts?

I have never done this. Strange that I never did. I usually dive right in. It bit me once. I converted one of my sites to an ASP.Net product called community server. It is now Telligent I believe. It was an all in one package like IPB. It also offered an interconnection to Usenet which at the time was still very popular. I installed it and the conversion went well. The connection to Usenet was exactly as I had hoped. Seamless integration. That's where it all went wrong. Once I set the connection string and the groups I want to interact with it uploaded all 1 million + posts to usenet. Not good. Instant IP block. Took me over a year to get back in good graces with the Usenet provider I used. Moved back to vBulletin right away.

An ASP guestbook script that was used as a forum before forums existed.

If I have a user on my tech site with a problem I can't answer I will use it to get the answer. I usually don't copy and paste. I'll use it to create a post in my own words. I have used it for tutorials. Again I'll use it with my own words.

Pretty much guaranteed it won't. The only new things you'll see is new style and new editor which has already been talked about.

Offers much more. Almost too much. I turned off a lot of it. Can be overwhelming to users.

I upgraded the site to the newest version of IPB version 4.7.19. Upgrade went very smooth. First upgrade I have done in a while. Took about 5 minutes once I entered my details in the upgrader. Way faster than xenforo. The upgrader in xenforo also left a lot to be desired as far as speed. Even the command line version was slow. In any case that's in the rear view and not to be dwelled upon.
