  1. I'm not, but, I have run Sharepoint on 2003.
  2. I'm not using it. In the future, when I have more than 2 servers for network logon I might set it up.
  3. Check permissions on the directory. Make sure the FTP user has permissions to access the directory.
  4. Welcome to the site.
  5. You don't need any added protection, but, I am one that believes that one can never be too protected. I use a hardware firewall as well as Windows firewall. The only thing you need to know is make sure the company you colo with has good security. You don't want anyone to have access to your server except the network people. I prefer using a local company so I have physical access to the server when I need it. In case of a hardware failure it's always better to be able to drive a few miles with the replacements then to ship it off somewhere. Downtime is held to a minimum.

  7. Basic GUI configuration utility for Windows Server Core 2008 If have Windows Server 2008 core only installed this is a nice utility to configure many of the options. As you know the only way to configure the Windows2008 core is by command line. This tool makes some of the tasks easier. Features: Product Activation Configuration of display resolution Clock and time zone configuration Remote Desktop configuration Management of local user accounts (creation, deletion, group membership, passwords) Firewall configuration WinRM configuration IP configuration Computer name and domain/workgroup membership Installation of Server Core features/roles DCPROMO wizard (3 scenarios supported) Windows Server Backup performance configuration Automatic Updates configuration Windows 2008 Server Core Configurator - Release: Core Configurator 1.1
  8. The only thing I could suggest is to check the permissions on the file store. Windows Servers have a modify permission and it seems to override write permissions when changing files.
  9. Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers experience with the operating system. This white paper summarizes what is new in Windows XP SP3. Read the document at microsoft.com
  10. Microsoft continuously improves the Windows Vista Operating System by providing ongoing updates while working with software and hardware vendors to help them to deliver improved compatibility, reliability and performance. These updates are provided to customers directly by our hardware and software partners, as well as from Microsoft in the form of hotfixes distributed on a regular basis using Windows Update. Updates to Windows are also delivered directly to some affected customers and preinstalled by PC manufacturers. This document describes many of the notable changes in Windows Vista SP1. For additional information about the changes in SP1, please see the forthcoming Knowledge Base (KB) article 936332, which is a compendium of all prior KB articles documenting updates to Windows Vista. Many of these updates are already publicly available and have been released via the Microsoft Download Center or Windows Update. All of these updates are included in Windows Vista SP1. The full list of these updates can be read in Hotfixes and Security Updates included in Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Read the document at microsoft.com

  12. Which ever you choose will work. You could install either x86 64 or x86 32.
  13. You can't run or install x64 software in a 32bit environment. Only way to install is make the dvd bootable. I have burned every build of Windows 2008 while beta testing and not once did any of them not boot. You must have a bad iso.
  14. Encryption should be set by default. I know when I connect to my server it lets me know the connection is secure.
  15. Post a reply to this thread to introduce yourself to the community. For those that don't know I am Bob the owner of this site. I've been running Windows Servers for 10 years after migrating from Redhat and FreeBSD. During that time I have written articles and tutorials to share my knowledge. I opened this forum so that all of us can share what we know.
  16. As you can see the site was upgraded and along with the software upgrade we changed the look and added a couple more forums. We removed the gallery replacing it with the built option to create your own albums. You can create your gallery by visiting your user control panel or use this lnk to create your album. You can also create your own social group to interact with friends that are also members. You can choose to make these groups private/invite only or public to allow everyone to join and interact. You can create your social group by visiting your control panel or use this link to create your group. You can also create your own blog by visiting your control panel. We added new forums to cover Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems. Since we use either Vista, XP or maybe even Windows 95/98/ME to connect to and manage our servers I felt we should also have forums for them. Welcome to the new Windows Server 2008 Forum!
  17. Yes you need to uninstall completely, not just disable, to install Exchange.
  18. You'll need at least 256 of memory, 512 perferred for development environment per virtual OS. Depending on how much memory the server has determines number of OS you can run.For what you want to do I would recommend at least 8 gigs on the server and to run Windows 2008 x64.

  20. Any vm that you install will be it's own instance. Think of it as a seperate OS. You can install software. When one of the devs works in his virtual OS any work done will be saved and available for him/her next logon. Each developers files would only be available to them unless you create a public directory accessible to all.
  21. In a word, yes, it is possible. What you want can be done.
