  1. The only way I can think of to accomplish what you want is to add a print server to the network.
  2. You're trying to install the drivers that are used for remote machines that are pushed through when connecting the first time to the network printer. There should be another version of the print drivers for local installtion at the printer manufacturer site.
  3. Many things have changed in 2008 compared to 2003. The install and deployment, however, is much the same. Configurung the services is very different although IMO much easier.
  4. That could be the problem. Windows 2008 DNS is trying to send updates to the ISP server and the request is being dropped.
  5. You could try passing through DNS to your ISP servers. It could be latency on the ISP network or the site your visiting causing the slowdown. Have you taken the SonicWall out of the loop to see if it is causing the problem?
  6. What kind of hardware do you have Windows 2008 installed on? This sounds like a driver problem.
  7. Are you forwarding dns requests to the isp server? What are you doing when you get the error?
  8. I would think that the 9700 would be good enough as long as you installed the correct drivers. Vista drivers should work. I used them on one of my servers which has a 9800 in it.
  9. You might be running into the problems outlined on Microsoft's site: Getting Started with Windows Media Services 9 Series
  10. Let the server do the work. Set it up for dns and as a router. Linksys doesn't run as a dns server. It passes through dns requests to the ISP parent servers.
  11. You have to make sure you have the domain setup on the dns server. Since this is a local domain make sure you have the domain setup to resolve to a private IP on your network.
  12. What type of sound card do you have? Does sound work when connected to other speakers? You need to install drivers and codecs for the soundcard. Once you do that the speakers should work.
  13. No. You have to have a 64bit install with DEP enabled in order to install and use Hyper V.
  14. Did you create a local zone for the machine name in DNS and assign an IP to it?
  15. I just did a test and followed the guide and I did get the role. It could be a problem with RC1. I didn't have any problem in the released build. Why are you using an RC when final version is available and you can get a free 180 day eval?
  16. Shouldn't have any problems running Windows 2008 in a Windows 2003 domain.
  17. First off I'll post with the thought you'll be using the 64bit version of Windows 2008. I would go for an Intel Quad core processor or dual Xeons and use an Intel motherboard. For memory go with 4 gigs unless you'll be running database intensive apps then go with at least 8gigs. Memory of choice for me is GSkill. Use SCSI drives, at least 5, in a raid 10 array for redundancy and best performane. Whatever you company currently uses for backup will work fine. I haven't had any problems with any hardware so if you buy top of the line components you be sure it will last you a long tme.
  18. Best advice I can give is to that if Windows 2003 ran on the hardware Windows 2008 will run fine. Unlike going from XP to Vista this is a server OS so you won't be running glass or any of the other effects that are standard with Vista. If anything Winodws 2008 will run better and more efficient on te same hardware as Winodws 2003.
  19. There is a difference in the way services are handled. Services that would install and run on 2003 don't work on 2008. I haven't had a chance to look deeper into the difference. I really should take the time because I know this type of problem will hit me when I start to migrate clients from 2003 to Windows 2008 Server. Please post what you find and I will do the same.
  20. Re: fax sevrer? This link should do it: Windows 2008 Fax Server Role
  21. Use the server manager to install 3.0. Open server manager and expand features. First selection is for .net 3.0.
  22. Did you assign private IP address to the LAN nic and public to WAN? I have mine set up the way you do and my map looks the same, but, smtp does work with rras configured. The only thing I could see that would cause the problem is the IP allocations.
  23. The 9700 is not a dx10 card so that could be the problem.
  24. 2 is the limit for RDP sessions. No way I know of to increase it.
  25. Should be able to. Open IIS manager and select app pools. Right click the app pool and select advanced properties. Second option down is to run in 32 bit mode.
