slow copy speeds to and from windows 2008 server

Is this also an issue to XP and W2003. I have the same problems especially over our WAN-line to Hongkong. Just moved to 2008 64 Bit File servers and a file copy from these servers are now very slow. 40 MB will take 8 minutes where a file copy from a w2003 server on take 30 sec.
