  1. hi there, I never heard problems with too many virtual directories.
  2. just to be sure... You have at least 60 GB and your PC supports 64-bits os, correct? For the installation on VM it's a different story. Let me know.
  3. so I think you must change hardware... No more ideas
  4. why not use server 2k8 instead of sbs?
  5. you have some problem with compatibility, probably with drivers because your error tells you there's something wrong with I/O that is the data flow... I never installed a server os on a laptop...
  6. you need to join domain only to be able to login with a domain account, for network shares you can use username@domain
  7. check the SBS prerequisites
  8. I know... But now the last thing I can say is that you may have a problem related to your motherboard or hard drive... Can you replace them?
  9. Disable your antivirus and download the ISO again. Maybe your hard drive has a problem...
  10. I assume you're installing from cd-rom, try to change your drive...
  11. You have the same error on each situation? I mean, if you install on a phisical machine or virtual machine, it doesn't change anything? Try to remove any un-needed USB. Try to plug in just your keyboard, mouse and video. Nothing else.
  12. Hi, Are you installing it from CD-ROM? If yes, please do the followings steps: Download the installer from MS (it should be an ISO file). Open VmWare or virtual box or virtual pc and install the OS from the ISO directly instead of the CD-ROM. If this works, you have a (hardware) problem with your CD-ROM drive.
  13. Your server is on a domain! You must create user in that domain! Login into your DC and add users from there.
  14. Which credentials? To open what? Which database?
  15. As I said before... create a folder where you want (for security reason, it shouldn't be on C:\ drive). Right click and set permissions for your users. User MUST BE created on a domain controller (ACTIVE DIRECTORY). It's not important that your clients are on domain... When a client tries to access that folder, it just have to type: \\IP_Server\Share_Name\MyFolder When prompted, he must type: user1@CV.servidor.com (of course, replace the USER1 with the name of the user you have created and granted to access that folder) then type the password for that account.
  16. Maybe the point is that you are saving the PUBLIC profile log. Try the following: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753781%28WS.10%29.aspx And tell me if you can see something in there. Also take a look here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754451%28WS.10%29.aspx
  17. Hi there, Enjoy your stay!
  18. To be honest I never tried something like that before, BUT let's write my thoughts: The most important thing is that you need to reach the FQDN of your DC. Which is blocked not only by the firewall, but also by the DNS itself. If you want to resolve this issue, you MUST change some settings which will expose your network to a giant security hole, for example zone transfer. Now, the VPN. Teorically you should be able to accomplish this without problems, but as said before, I'm not sure... I found this article which refers to ISA server, but the informations may be useful: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303503/en-us Let me know.
  19. it depends on your settings. You can select on the properties of the website, which page can be recognized as default. There are some "defaults" names like: default.aspx, but actually I can't remember the others. Right click on default website and I'm pretty sure you will find this option. To make a test, simply rename your index.htm to default.aspx. It should work... I think.
  20. Ok, first of all make your FileServer part of your domain. Once done, go to the DC and open Active Directory users and computers. Create a new user account (let's say "User 1"). Now go to D:\ and create a structure of directory: (let's make it simple) D:\data\PersonalFolder\User1 Now you have 2 choices, you can share the entire directory or "per user". It easier to share the entire folder. Right click on PersonalFolder > properties > share > (share this folder) > permissions > Everyone -> Full control (it's ok, trust me). Now switch to SECURITY tab and and add "Domain Users". Here you can select what they can do (usually READ is ok). Now right click on User1 (folder) > properties > security > ADD and type USER 1 (or the name of the user created before). Permissions should be all except "DELETE (meaning that your user cannot delete the main folder itself), take ownership and change permissions". If you get an error adding permissions to USER1 folder, click advanced and remove the check mark from ENABLE INHERITANCE ....... and select COPY when prompted. Let me know.
  21. Of course, but have you / are you planning to implement a domain??? One scenario is DOMAIN USERS, another one is LOCAL USERS.
  22. I suggest you to create two partitions: C:\ (system) D:\ (file server) add Role (from server manager) and select FILE SERVER. Now you have to set up permissions, but usually this is done in a DOMAIN (you must have a DC), if you don't have one, you can create or you can user local users. Let me know what do you want to do with users.
  23. No, don't do it. You HAVE TO replace the existing file from the same system. If you have a backup for example. This file contains HW infos and from what I know, you shouldn't replace it with a different one. If you don't have a backup, try to restore from CD (I can't remember if you can make a restore with SBS).
  24. Hi, Check under Device Manager if you have any yellow question mark or red crosses. the only thing I can see is that mssmbios.sys failed, this file can be fixed only with a fresh install or with an old copy. When the problem started?
  25. if haven't changed anything, it points to default website and it looks for default.aspx which shows you the main page of IIS 7.
