  1. What do you mean by writing "took out the switch and connected back the network cable directly"? Directly WHERE?
  2. If you can't give me other error's codes, I don't know what could be your problem. 0xc05 means too many things. It's too bad.
  3. Hi there, If you don't have a domain, I think your last solution is to grant the PRINT control to everyone (NOT FULL CONTROL!) and take a look here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee524015(WS.10).aspx Anyway if SHARED printer are grayed out you should check sharing permissions. Although this could be a little bug which should be resolved with SP1 (Win 7)
  4. I can bet that you have the same error on Event Viewer... right?
  5. You're not dumb. In the past people were angry if I post this kind of questions, but actually it's one of the most common issue. Trust me, I know "many" IT admins which buy WS 2k8 std or ent, but actually they don't know the difference! Be sure to check the differences, because it's not like Win 7 which has just the bit locker or something more. In your case the problem is quite different, what can I say... I'm not surprised. it's like when a raid-controller says: "hey, my battery must be replaced ASAP", but you just ignore it, or when a DISK has a led's red but you are "safe" because it is in a RAID 5. I think you know what I'm talking about. Let me know if you need help!
  6. Hi there, It's not late :P this OS will be the future for MS for a long time :) Enjoy your stay!
  7. Hi there, According to this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee424382%28WS.10%29.aspx Do you have these requirements?
  8. Open this file with notepad: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ETC\hosts and add the following line: IP_DNS_SERVER YOUR_DNS Retry.
  9. (keep trying with the tutorial to check if something is blocked) If you go under DEVICE MANAGER, all the needed hardware is ok or there's something with a yellow question mark?
  10. Hi and welcome to the community! Enjoy your stay ^^
  11. Although I'm not sure if I've understood your problem, take a look at my tutorial: http://serverforum.org/tuts/t-37-use-process-monitor-to-set-up-permissions-properly/ Nothing special, but use it "against" your program so MAYBE you can find some "MISSING COMPONENT" or "NOT FOUND". Let me know if you need more help, but in these cases, just the manufacture can help you...
  12. I mean, from the link I posted before, did you verifed permissions? Go here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Diag Right click on DIAG and select permission. Make sure NETWORK SERVICE has the full control. Once done, select REPLACE ALL CHILD OBJECT...
  13. the problem seems to be clear to me... Permission's issue. Are you sure that the registry has the correct permission? Install DHCP role on DNS may cause this problem...
  14. what error do you receive? Try join in offline mode: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/offline-domain-join-djoin-step-by-step(v=ws.10).aspx
  15. look at this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsserver2008r2general/thread/589f71f3-5eb5-4b07-a3f1-4c8aec36736c/ Check the alexvd's post. let me know
  16. Oh well, if you can post the ERRORS you get in Event Viewer once you've clicked "shut down" I can investigate on your problem.
  17. Hi there, Can you please tell me if the DC restarts normally with this command? shutdown -r -t 1 -f -c "Forced Shutdown"
  18. Hi there, You just have 2 choices: use local account (which is what are you doing now) Or use Active Directory to create domain's users. Of course you could set up the (permission?) EVERYONE but it's quite useless.
  19. it sounds like there's something wrong with the process which has the duty to pass credentials...
  20. What's the error's message?
  21. Ok but can u login with A LOCAL ACCOUNT ?
  22. What is the error message when you try to login? Have you already tried to login in safe mode?
  23. Well you can be a bit more safe by blocking IP. What I want say is that you don't have to be so sure that DoS is blocked... It's just a bit more hard than before :)
  24. DoS is the most effective attack. Of course blocking and checking an IP is an hard work for your server, but you have no choice. You can substitute your SW fw with an hw appliance but they are quite expensive. Create a defense for a DoS attack it's an expensive process.
  25. First restart your DC, if nothing changes, try login with LOCAL admin. Let me know
