  1. once the IP is banned, you can't do anything. But actually you can reach the router, if you can activate a dos protection (if applicable) or blacklist IP on router!
  2. hi there. Yes this is a server OS. The main use is to centralize resources (files, policy, computer) and to do so, usually you install Active Directory. It's quite mandatory that you have clients which can connect to the server, otherwise they must sit in front to the server in order to work. You have 2 choices to connect users: Add workstation to the domain so the power to calculate things(running programs) is taken from the PC itself, or you can use terminal server, and in this scenario yours clients can have only a keyboard, mouse, screen and a network card. Which are called THIN CLIENT. In this way clients are on the server and they use its resources! Usually you connect clients and server via a switch.
  3. Hi there, You can ban IPs with any trouble regarding performance... Just remember that usually user's IPs change dynamically every hours or days or simply by reconnecting to ISP.
  4. Hi there, Send an e-mail to you cannot help other peolpe... Here's what you need: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766320%28WS.10%29.aspx
  5. Hi there, There's a good article for roaming profiles: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office-xp-resource-kit/configuring-outlook-for-roaming-users-HA001136430.aspx But it's quite old, anyway the only thing that change is the folder's location, so check this page too: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/where-does-microsoft-office-outlook-2007-save-my-information-and-configurations-HP010066914.aspx Cheers
  6. Hi there, Actually you can't MERGE DSL connections. What you can do is a load balancing or high availability. There are routers which can manage two different lines. This is an example: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9925/index.html Let me know if you need more infos.
  7. Hi there. if users are using a REMOTE ACCESS (I think it's a VPN), I can't see why they can't reach outlook and others stuffs. What's the program's name? Once a user is logged on via that software, what he can do?
  8. So it's time to rename... If you can't do this "normally" try in safe mode. Good luck
  9. Hi there, Check this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/233541/en-us and tell me if you can disable the WRITE CACHE. Most of these kind of problems, can be resolved by disabling the cache. BUT your HD must support this option. In addition, do you have a specific software with advanced feautures provided by Lacie? Anyway... great answer from Lacie... very professional... in others words "oh really? but you just bought my HD, I have my money and everything is ok" - pathetic -
  10. So you could just add the string in host file.. can you PM the string pls?
  11. Let's give it a try... Click here: http://www.translatorscafe.com/cafe/units-converter/numbers/calculator/octal-to-decimal/ You can easly convert from octal to decimal. In this case you also add in HOST file this line: 63fa3998-2396-4450-b046-a8ceb3bf85dc._msdcs.wtbhome.net IP_big-rig or localhost... no idea... but I think it's the same... Wait before the rename... try this first.
  12. Mhhhh almost the same problem as before... the problem is that netlogon has still the "big-rig2" in its config... Adding the big-rig2 pointer to host file doesn't help... actually during replication and connectivity test things are made in a different way. The point is: netlogon has a config file somewhere, and as you said, once it has been modified, the service re-write it and you still have the same problem. I think the problem is the server's name, we have to find a way to change it... Have you already tried this? netdom renamecomputer %computername% /NewName: /userd: /password:* Let me know...
  13. Oh well, also RIM (resources in motion) it's like a company's name 'cause you should say: rim's blackberry ahahah. Ehi, maybe you're employed with RIM, you could try to increase your salary eheheh.
  14. Hi there. Welcome to the community. Nice presentation, I was just guessing me if your Username has something related to BlackBerry (RIM), I hope not, I HATE blackberry! ahahah Anyway, we've almost the same age ^^ and now you're going to start almost the same job as me :) Enjoy your stay!
  15. Online defrag permits to your system to defrag the DBA without taking offline the DB. Defrag means move files and if they're in use it can't be done. Here the meaning of ONLINE DEFRAG. Actually it will not hurt your DB, you can manually do a defrag regularly. I've not disabled defrag in my environment and I'm using shared storage (netapp). To disable, take a look here: http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/1309/
  16. I know those files, but I actually don't know if they can edited "on the fly". My suggestion is: Start in safe mode, modify files, restart. Anyway, make sure you're ready to reinstall a new dc... you know, just in case.
  17. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755199(v=ws.10).aspx
  18. Can you please post the following informations? 1) HW specs 2) Actual Server 2k3 version (r1, r2, standard, enterprise, ...) 3) version you want to install (standard, datacenter, ...) Thanks
  19. It's frustrating, the last thing you can try is to use dcpromo /removal on your DNS. Once completed rename the server (as long it will be a standalone server), then retry the dcpromo to setup the domain again. Be sure to be ready to setup a new DC in case this scenario will not work properly. I really apologize with you but this is my last idea :(
  20. Download Ubuntu and boot from cd and start it as LIVE CD(NO INSTALL) once it's up, under computer you can browse the c disk of windows and make changes. Then reboot as normal.
  21. Yes, dcdiag /fix. I hope it's just a mistake in the name... try this: nltest /dsgetdc:wtbhome.net /force /gc
  22. No problem, Use a live cd: Download for example Ubuntu or any other distro and modifiy yours files.
  23. Mhhh Can you please post the complete log related to this error? I mean, DNS, System / Application. Also post the result of: dcdiag /a /q Thanks
  24. Help you via TeamViewer is not useful to other users. Setting up DNS for a website depends on the provider and your network config. Anyway, look at this tutorial which should help you: http://www.knowledgesutra.com/forums/topic/32290-configuring-dns-settings-for-website/
  25. I think you want to set up the TFTP server... http://www.howtoforge.com/setting-up-a-pxe-install-server-on-ubuntu-9.10-p3 let me know.
